Modern, well equipped chalet, ski-in ski-out, close to main Achterject lift station.
I visited this chalet as a guest of the owner in March 2015. It is spacious, modern and well equipped. Ideal for a family or group of friends. It is near the slope about 50m uphill from the Achterjet lift station, ideal for ski-out ski-in.
Flachau is an excellent resort for beginners and intermediates, and the short (free) bus ride to Zauchensee gives access to extensive advanced and off-piste skiing, including tree skiing.
The ski schools take children (in my case grandchildren) from 3yo and the tuition and care is excellent. I have visited about 40 ski resorts in Europe, North America and Japan and this is the best resort for children, beginners and intermediates. I can leave family in Flachau and take the bus to Zauchensee (off-piste, powder and trees) so that we all get as much as possible from the holiday.
Austrian hospitality is great, in the mountain restaurants and in Flachau. Transfer from Salzburg airport is typically less than 45 minutes, significantly shorter than most transfers. This is my preferred resort for a family ski holiday. …
Flachau Ski & Summer
Small nice and cosy aprtment right in the centre of Flachau with excellent extra benefits
We spent two weeks in this apartment in August. The apartment is just as it appears in the photos: it is not very big, so there is only one bedroom for the kids whereas the sofa bed (extremely comfy and spacious) is in the open lounge (with kitchen area and dining area, too). As it is also explained in the description, there is not washing machine in the flat but you can use the one on the basement floor where there is also plenty of space for haning up your clothes: just make sure to have 50-cent coins ready! Despite the horrible spell of cold and rainy weather we experienced for a few days, we did not want for nothing: there were plenty of toys for children, board games, books and Dvds. Besides, the free wifi allowed us to use our Netflix subscription on my tablet and watch programmes in Italian too (my husband's English is not very good). The house was really spotless clean and I can tell it because I am a very accurate cleaner, so when I moved the furniture to clean behind I noticed there was not old dust at all and the oven looked at it was new.It was well equipped with everything: a real home from home.
Rachel was also very easy to get to, she also left plenty of leaflets and booklets about the area for us . Next door there is also another English family who usually spend their holiday there and who were very friendly and helpful, too.
The bonus that make this flat unique are many: first of all, the swimming pool for the resident of this block of flats that was much appreciated by the kids in rainy days and not only as well as the sauna (which I did not use, though) and a spacious changing room area with toilet and powerful shower; then the parking reserved for the residents that coud also be seen from our balcony; then the possibility of using the store room on the ground floor for bikes and other equipment; last but not least, the flat is right in the centre of this small but lively village as well as to a park with minigolf and playground. I suggest everybody to buy a Salzburgerland card, which may seem expensive but it has a series of free entrances for beautiful attractions, including once entrance to the Therme Amadé nearby, an extra entrance to the Star Jet lifts, free unlimited access to the minigolf opposite the flat and, of course, many other interesting sites further away.
I was in there in the summer and it is a great place for hikes (most of them free with Flachau card given to tourists staying for more than three days), cycling, etc. Nearby (by car or with a long walk) there is also a little amusement area, with the Lucky Flitzer coaster, rides, pony ridingm Segway tours, etc.Saltzburg is an hour-drive (all motorway) and does not need presentation but there are many other attractions: after buying the Salzburgerlandcar card, we just picked our favourite attractions from the booklet and travelled around. If you like sports and/or nature, though, you may also stay in Flachau and forget you car. …
