Ca' Leonessa is a recently (2010) restored luxury first floor two double bedroom/ two bathroom apartment located in Dorsoduro in the heart of Venice. The apartment overlooks a quiet canal and a famous bridge (the Ponte dei Pugni) and the Campo San Barnaba (which featured as did the exterior of the apartment in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). It is a short walk from the bus and railway stations. Due to its superb location all the sites of Venice are either within walking distance or a couple of stops on the vaporetto (water bus).
The apartment has been sympathetically restored using high quality traditional Venetian materials and local craftsmen. In the furnishing of the apartment the prime consideration has been to create a comfortable and welcoming oasis for you after a busy days sight seeing in magical Venice.
The living room (which overlooks the canal and which gives a great vantage point to view the Campo San Barnaba) features two Natuzzi sofa's (one double sofa bed) a Linn sound system and Sony HD television with DVD/CD player and Sky channels.
Both bedrooms are bright and airy with comfortable beds and have plenty of hanging/storage space in the bespoke wardrobes. One bedroom has a luxuriously appointed double bed with fine linens and traditional Venetian fabrics. The second bedroom has two single beds again with beautiful traditional Venetian fabrics.
Both bathrooms are fully tiled with local tiles in earthy/neutral tones. There are power showers in both.
The kitchen has been hand built and features a dining area which seats 6 people comfortably. It is fully equipped and will give you an opportunity to create some wonderful meals having spent the morning at the famous fish market (la pescaria) and the equally renowned grocery barge that is located on the canal just across the bridge in front of the house. If the culinary arts are not for you then you are in the heart of Dorsoduro which has some of Venice's finest restaurants.
Among the many other amenities on offer we have provided unlimited broadband/wifi; Wii system with a selection of games/activities; a collection of DVD's, CD's and books (including various cook books and guide books on Venice).
Our apartment is great for all groups from parents with children, groups of friends or a romantic hideaway for a couple.
Included with your stay are bed linen and bath towels, all utilities, internet use and weekly cleaning as well as final cleaning on your departure. Added extras include electrical adaptors (UK and USA); umbrellas; guidebooks; maps and rain boots.

Your first glimpse of Venice , the pearl of the Adriatic, is of a magnificent vision of a city rising from the waters of the lagoon. The unique light has fascinated artists and travellers for centuries. As perhaps the greatest trading state Venice has absorbed different cultures like no other City. Its unrivalled blend of cultures is evidenced in the truly magnificent array of architectural styles from Byzantine through to Renaissance elegance and even the neo Fascist architecture of the railway station.
The Grand Canal runs through the centre of the city with its numerous smaller canals and 400 plus bridges link the city and its succession of palazzi.
From the first refugees arriving to the rise of the great Venetian empire of the 13th century and the later Napoleonic invasion, Venice has it all.
The Venice, Veneto / Dorsoduro area
By stepping out of the front door of the apartment you enter the heart of this incredible and unique city. The Accademia, Frari and Guggenheim and Punta della Dogana (Francois Pinault collection) art galleries are all within easy walking distance. The Ca ' Rezzonico with its lovely shady garden is literally a minute away. St Marks Square is a short walk away. The immediate area has many of Venice's best restaurants not to mention two of its most distinctive squares with their lively cafes and bars (the Campo San Barnaba and the Campo Santa Margherita). Local fish markets and fruit and vegetable merchants are a short stroll away.
There is a supermarket 2 minutes from the apartment.

We spent a week in Venezia last march in this apartment with our two teenagers. The flat in Dorsoduro is centraly located and perfect to visit Venezia. The apartment was very agreeable very well equipped. It was very convenient, you can find really near shops (butcher, supermarket, bakery, fruits all you need). The place is also near of some good restaurants and of a Groom (fabulous ice creams). I recommend this property to all my friends and i hope to be able to come back soon.

“Staying at Ca'Leonessa made our stay in Venice perfect”
This apartment is a hidden secret and located perfectly on a picturesque canal in a quiet district of Venice where you are able to blend into the local life very easily. It has been recently renovated and is very stylish with every amenity possible from free high speed wifi to dishwasher and full laundry facilities. Jon is the consummate host, freely and promptly answering by email any queries you might have, and the booking and payment process was simple and speedy. We especially loved catching a water taxi fom the airport to within metres of the door, to be met by our local host with keys and full instructions on all we needed. Ca'Leonessa is everything it claims to be on its website and more. It is the best value for money accommodation we have enjoyed in a long time.

“Home away from home”
We were very impressed with this property, as two mature couples we found it good value and very comfortable. It is about a 20 minute walk to St. Mark's square, very close to the vaporetto stop and in a quiet area of Venice. Yet a square just behind the property houses a supermarket, eateries, bakery, gelateria, fresh fish and more. The windows look out over a canal, where a barge sells fresh fruit and veg, people walk to work or school, and tourists take photos of the quaint bridges that cross the canal. A small courtyard was the perfect place for a glass of wine at the end of the day to reflect on our days adventures. The kitchen was fitted with everything you could need, and there is a great selection of books, CDs and DVDs along with a great sound system and comfy lounge suite. Highly recommend. Jenny and Chris O'Neill Queensland, Australia.
We have stayed in three apartments in Venice and this was by far the best. It is beautiful, spacious, well located, and well appointed. Windows look out on a canal. Gondolas float by. Famous produce barge a stone's throw away. Very close to Campo Santa Margherita and Campo San Barnaba, a grocery store, and many bars and restaurants. Close to vaporetto stop, Accademia bridge, and Zattere. In my opinion, Dorsoduro is the best place to stay in Venice. it is convenient, quiet, and gorgeous. I would return to Ca' Leonessa in a heartbeat.

“Beautiful well appointed flat in an excellent location”
The flat itself is beautifully restored and decorated, and furnished with faultless modern appliances, providing lots of living, bathing and cooking space for the 6 of us. The location of the flat is excellent. It is out the tourist hub bub, but close enough to walk to the grand canal (and the water busses) or one of the many restaurants/bars in one of the many squares, it is located on a canal version of a cul-de-sac, so only residents pass the under the windows. Amnities near the flat are plantiful, there is a supermarket within 2 mins walk, an amazing ice cream shop within a minutes walk, a bakery around the corner and the fruit and veg barge across the other side of the canal. There are also numerous bars and restaruants within stone's throw. My only down side, was that it was only on the last night, that we discovered that the funky bar across the bridge (to the flat) stocks some fantastic wines, and have great knowledgable and friendly staff, who are hapy to advise on restaurants in the area and are keen to promote the bar as gay friendly.

“Dream apartment in a dream city, still basking in the memories.”
The service we received was absolutely fantastic. The whole holiday experience went smoothly. When you go to a city for the first time it is important that you don't feel out of your depth, lost. We found the apartment easily due to the guidance of Irene and Ciara. On arrival we were blown away by the beautiful apartment. We were made to feel extremely welcome. Instructions for utilities,TV,local amenities etc very helpful. Loved all the books. We felt at home very quickly and I miss it, we all do. The location of Ca Leonessa couldn't have been better, this we came to appreciate more and more as we familiarised ourselves with the city. A plethora of restaurants ,bars, cafes on your doorstep.10-15 min walk to St Marks or the Rialto in the other direction.Supermarket and fresh veg barge literally a stones throw from the apartment. We feel honoured to have stayed in such a gorgeous old building,so sympathetically restored and beautifully furnished All our needs were catered for. Best M.O....don't plan just go out and get lost. We stumbled across some hauntingly beautiful sights just walking hither thither. Can't wait until we can return.
We highly recommend Ca' Leonessa for anyone traveling to Venice. I would go back every year for at least a week & stay at Jon's apartment!! It was the perfect location - about halfway down... more

“Cozy, luxury apartment makes a great base to explore Venice”
A short, easy walk (just one bridge) from the Ca' Rezzonico vaporetto stop, this apartment was a lucky find. Beyond the front door is an unremarkable entrance hall. but up three (short) flights of stairs is a smart, welcoming and very inviting apartment. To the left are a sizeable bedroom (with very comfortable double bed) and nicely furnished sitting room; ahead is the kitchen/diner, to the right are a bathroom and twin bedroom, (with its own ensuite bathroom) . Its compact but well laid out, with ample storage and sufficient space for family meals or relaxing on the sofas with music, a book or movie (a selection of CDs/DVDs is provided). All the furnishing, fixtures and fittings are top quality and there are some nice touches: double glazed windows - which can be part opened for ventilation (unusual in Venice); wireless internet access; remote controlled heating/airconditioning; IPod docks in bedroom and sittng room - in addition to the main sound system; wooden floors (marble is pretty but cold at night!) and a kettle in the kitchen, which also has an alcove with a washing machine and ironing board should you need them. The location is great: close enough to reach all the main sites easily, whether walking or hopping on a vaporetto down (or up) the Grand Canal. Its quite a lively neighbourhood with a range of shops, bars and restaurants (many patronised by locals), or, if you prefer to self-cater, the floating fruit and vegetable shop opposite; a well-stocked supermarket just round the corner and a baker's a few minutes away. A guidebook provided by the owner gives suggestions (and addresses) for most of your needs and a local agency, whose staff speak excellent English, arrange meet and greet/cleaning services and can assist with enquiries. The apartment is extremely comfortable: it really does feel like a home from home after a hard day at the Biennale art exhibition (in my case). Its ideal for couples, or parents with older children, who want the freedom to come and go at their own pace (there's even two sets of keys). There's a step down from the double bedroom/sitting room to the hall, which might catch out young children (or anyone using the bathroom at night). I couldn't access Sky channels on the TV - apparently because there was no card in the decoder box - but Italian language channels were fine and, anyway, I wasn't in Venice to watch TV. The CD player was high spec with great sound and the DVD player was fine.

“Perfect, Loved it.”
I booked this flat after extensive research and it more than met our expectations. It's location is perfect. You are right in the middle of Venice yet far away from the tourist masses. Everything is within easy reach either on foot or by water bus. There is a supermarket around the corner, some lovely restaurants, a bakery with absolutely divine cakes, two ice cream parlors, and the vegetable barge across the little bridge, which is just so unique. The apartment is clean, the sheets are crisp and the bathrooms are beautifully remodeled. The kitchen was fully equipped. Everything you could possibly need is provided from hairdryers to wifi and the Bose docking station. We also enjoyed the large DVD collection especially the ones that were related to Venice. After a day of exploring it was lovely to come home and relax with a movie. You live like a local at CaLeonessa yet you have all the comforts of home. There's even a Wii. I can't wait to go back only this time I'll bring the whole family.

“Wonderful Venetian experience”
It was a delight to experience such a well appointed , tastefully decorated apartment when we arrived. The location is perfect , within few minutes walk to grocery stores, restaurants, bakery and wine stores. In addition, there is the famed fruit stall on the boat right across the river from the apartment. Also, short walk to the vaporetto stop, we can easily get to all the main attractions and the neighboring islands like Murano and Burano. With the well equipped kitchen, we were able to live a life of a Venetian for a week by buying fresh seafood , produce from the famous Rialto market and cook ourselves. The A/C is especially much appreciated after walking outside during the hot and humid weather. Other accessories like DVDs collection and the WII station keep us entertained into the wee hours before we were up again to explore the neighborhoods. I would love to come back in the future and do not hesitate to recommend to anyone -
“We are a family that really enjoyed our stay at Ca'Leonessa”
We stayed in this apartment in July 2011 and found it very comfortable and convenient. It is clean, quiet and modern. It is a good size and well laid out for family use. The twin bedroom is separated from the main living area by the kitchen, entrance hall and a bathroom, making it a quiet spot for children to sleep while adults are using the living area.
The amenities are also perfect for a family: a well equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms, laundry facilities, lots of books/DVDs/CDs as well as internet access.
We loved the location. It was outside the main tourist area and had a nice residential feel but the surrounding squares and streets were still lively. There are a number of good restaurants, bakeries, food markets and other shops very close by. It is a short walk to several Vaparetto stops making it quick and easy to get places.
The owner is very considerate and helpful. Booking is easy and any questions are quickly answered. He has also provided a comprehensive manual on the apartment and the area which we found very helpful for its insider's insights. This is someone who cares about his guests and truly wants them to enjoy their stay.
Our only regret is we weren't able to stay longer. We would definitely return.
Beginning with my first contact with the owner, I was impressed with Ca Leonessa. He was easily available by e-mail, always responsive and clearly wanted to provide quality service. Advanced payment... more

“Great apartment in great location”
Very well appointed and airconditioned apartment. We squeezed in 3 couples without much hastle, but perhaps better suited to 2 couples. A well equipped kitchen was a great money saver as eating out in Venice is expensive and the restaurants we visited were disappointing. This appartment is within easy walking of all attractions, but not as overcrowded as in San Marco. There is a tolerable degree of street noise at night.
I got interested in this apartment months ago because of its location in Dorsodouro. From the beginning I found Jon most helpful. (In my experience of renting apartments, I find a helpful owner and a good location are pre-requisites for proceeding.) This proved to be very true on this occasion. In addition there is the beauty, comfort and quality of the apartmentat every level. In addition, I could sit all day looking out at the activity on the little canal outside. But I didn't because there was so much to do and so many churches to pop into and stumble on great art. We loved the promenade on Dorsodouro, the little Barnaba square beside the apartment, the gentle bell that tolled nearby and the trek back from Accademia vaporetta station late at night from conference functions on the Lido. The only mistake we made was not buying a 7-day vaporetta pass at the outset. It costs 50 euro but we spent a lot more buying piecemeal over a 6-day stay. We would love to return and we recommend the apartment, its owner and its location unreservedly.

“Amazing: A must stay in Venice”
This is a brilliant and very high-spec flat. The apartment is airy and quiet. Bedrooms are spacious and the beds have lovely linen. The windows and shutters keep out the noise very well and there are fly nets so you can also take in the sounds of Venice, if you like...
The kitchen is wonderful and includes all mod-cons (including a dishwasher) as well as high-end kitchen equipment - everything you could need, which is just as well since the foodie options in and around Venice are great and there are local fish stalls and a great veg. barge across from the apartment.
The location is fantastic, being close to everything without being too close, and some of the great (secret) places to go in Venice are mere moments away from your front door.
We really couldn't rate this apartment enough.
