The Lanzarote region
You can visit the Canaries at any time of year and have good weather more or less guaranteed. Most of the time it is sunny with an average year round temperature of 22c. Even when the islands are at their hottest, in July and August, the temperature is usually in the comfortable mid-twenties.
Lanzarote is all about spending your days cycling, walking, surfing or sampling the local wines, not to mention the opportunity to try out scuba diving, camel trekking, windsurfing, kite surfing, para-sailing or golf. You can also enjoy beautiful and different marine excursions or visit leisure centers which provide a wide range of spectacles such as animal shows and horse riding.
Cycling in Lanzarote is becoming ever more popular; the Scenery is stunning and the majority of roads are excellent. Many top professional cycling teams use the island to train all year round. Many groups of riders leave daily from nearby Club La Santa and tagging along is permitted if you fancy a group ride.
The Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon is held in Lanzarote every year and the villa is ideally situated for entrants wanting to train on the course or those looking for accommodation during the event itself. There is also some great off road riding for those keen on Mountain Biking.
All over the island, you see the influence of the visionary artist, architect and environmentalist César Manrique, who saved Lanzarote from the ravages of rampant development. His extraordinary creations accentuate the unique geology of the island and are now its main tourist attractions. You could easily spend a few days visiting the places he designed, particularly as quite a few also house stylish bars and restaurants.
The Timanfaya National Park is worth a visit. The Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains) were created between 1730 and 1736 when more than 100 volcanoes, covering more than 50 km², rose up and devastated this part of the island (including several villages). The last eruptions were in 1824, however due to the low rainfall (and therefore lack of erosion) this area appears much the same as it did just after the eruptions. In 1968 the area was declared a national park, Parque Nacional de Timanfaya.
The Cueva de los Verdes are part of the Atlantida underground Cave system formed some 3000 years ago during the eruptions of the Corona Volcano (in the north of Lanzarote). The original inhabitants, often referred to as the Guanches, and later the Hispanic population, would shelter here from Pirates that once tormented the Island. The tunnel is over 6 km long with an additional 1.6 km under the sea and is one of the longest Volcanic Tunnels in the World. The lowest part of the cave is used occasionally as a concert hall and is an impressive sight in itself.. The caves are definitely worth a visit and if the molten wax-like rock isn't enough to impress you, the secret of Cueva de los Verdes will be.
In the local area of Oasis de Nazaret we have the LagOmar Museum. Legend has it that this heavenly place once belonged to the famous actor Omar Sharif, who fell in love with the house while filming in Lanzarote. filming the mini-series 'The Mysterious Island'. Despite his association with this place, Sharif was actually the owner for less than a day before he lost it to the Nazaret Oasis's developer, Sam Benady, in a bridge game. In the museum you can travel through the history of LagOmar's development and learn about Omar Sharif and his legendary career. You could also enjoy a meal at the Bar La Cueva - LagOmar. The magical evenings begin at dusk, when the volcanic rocks are transformed into deep red. Candles and natural lighting create a special ambiance in this relatively small yet stunning bar.
Recently opened on the Oasis is Barstro - a bistro with a twist. Barstro offers an excellent presentation of quality food with a menu that changes every 2 weeks. The passion for service is undoubted and an evening here is definitely recommended!
Equally spectacular is La Cantina in in the old Capital of Teguise. La Cantina is a fabulous old Canarian building which oozes character. There's the main dining room, bar and central patio for a choice of indoor or outdoor tables. The restaurant is run by Benn and Zoe, who have lived on the island for the past 18 years. Their menu is amazing and the bar has a fantastic selection of beers, wines and champagne on offer with delicious Italian coffee and a free Wi-Fi connection for customers.
Every Sunday morning between 8:30am and 2pm there is a large Market in Teguise. Here you will find a wide variety of items for sale such as hand-made table-cloths, jewelry, paintings and local wines! Here you can also just sit back and sample some of the traditional 'paella' or 'churros' and watch the local Canarian dancers in the main square in front of the Church. However, always remember to haggle as the first price given is never the lowest!

Just got back from a fantastic week here, I cannot fault this villa at all, very comfortable, plenty of space and amazing views over looking Nazaret. I travelled with two young children and had no worries about their safety as the heated pool is accessible by a locked gate as are the steps leading to the main entrance. The kitchen/ dining area has all you need to be able to cook just as you would at home with the added bonus of a dishwasher and washing machine (in a separate laundry area.) The lounge area is a great social space with English TV, CD player and amazing views CDs and DVDs are available too.
The bedrooms have a very homely feel about them with VERY comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. With the pool being heated it meant we were still able to swim most days.
The villa is in a great location with a short drive away from the centre of Arrecife and many beaches and other amenities.
I will definitely be recommending this villa to friends and family and hope to return too.
