The Costa del Sol region
Marbella has an exceptionally mild sub-tropical micro climate as it is protected by the impressive Sierra Blanca mountains. The winters are mild and the summer months reach 35-38 degrees, the perfect holiday destination!
PUERTO BANUS - A 5 minute drive takes you to Puerto Banus. No holiday is complete without a visit to the jet-set marina of Puerto Banus. Although small,
Puerto Banus offers an amazing wealth of facilities and attractions; including beautiful beaches on either side of the port, a selection of gastronomic restaurants and bars, water sports, golf, a casino, cinema and a amazing selection of upmarket and designer boutiques. There is also an El Corte Ingles department store here, the largest department store chain in Spain.
Here you can spend a couple of hours sipping a cocktail in the port while the super rich relax on their luxury yachts and cruise by in their Porsches and Lamborghinis . Take a boat trip from the central promenade area to view the local coastline.
MARBELLA - The main centre of world famous cosmopolitan Marbella is Plaza De Los Naranjos (The Orange Square) which is located in the heart of the old town, where tiny cobbled streets are lined with designer stores, souvenir shops, and some great shoe shops. There is also an abundance of restaurants and bars.
Cross the road from the Old Town and you find yourself in La Alameda Park, the park is filled with exotic plants and trees and you will feel like you have arrived to a tropical forest in the centre of Marbella.
Down from the park is the Paseo Maritimo (Promenade); this is one of the favourite places for locals and visitors. The boulevard is filled with restaurants of all gastronomies which look out across the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.
RONDA - Ronda is an amazing destination approx an hours drive in land. The town is divided by a river gorge and connected by the Puente Nuevo (The new bridge). On one side, you will find many historic buildings in the old Moorish town, while on the other – El Mercadillo – lies a more modern settlement. The Arab baths dating back from the 13th century can be found below the city. The beautiful Plaza de Toros bullring is a must as is the Museum of Bandits (which has a selection of slightly gruesome tales and exhibits). You can wander into cobbled streets lined with handsome town mansions, some still occupied by Ronda's titled families.
Plus for all those golf enthusiasts, welcome to Costa del Golf, where there are over 90 golf courses to choose from. Some of the best courses close to San Pedro are Los Flamingos, Aloha, Royal Las Brisas, Los Maranjos, Royal Guadalmina and Flamingos.
San Pedro de Alcantara
Typically Spanish San Pedro is situated just a few minutes away from the glitz and glamour of Puerto Banus, yet still close to the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda mountain region.
From the west you enter San Pedro through the famous Marbella Arch. To the left you will find the old town and to the right the beach and promenade. The old town has a great Spanish atmosphere. Head for the central plaza here with its gracious parish church and surrounding narrow streets, packed with intriguing small shops, sidewalk cafes and bars where you can enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee or glass of beer and sample a selection of terrific tapas while enjoying the sunshine. There are also a couple of large well priced supermarkets. Thursday is street market day, a bargain shopper's paradise.
San Pedro's choice of vibrant nightlife will surprise you. The bars-cum-clubs that front the square stay open until late and have a variety of music at night. They attract a crowd who spill out into the square and mingle happily until sunrise, feeling satisfied they have found the happy and traditional heart of San Pedro's nightlife. There are also a couple of vibrant salsa bars and a delightful smattering of tapas bars.
