The villa was originally built in 1718, next to a medieval inn, when Colombino Bassi, Bishop of Pistoia and Prato, decided to set a country home for his summer retreat and to rest during his visits to the area’s parishes (as testified by a Latin stone engrave in the living-room).

Such a strong historic context, coupled with the proximity to the Reno river, makes of Villa “Le Panche” a charming destination in Tuscany... between earth and sky, as we like to define its location. In fact, the Villa stands right between the medieval town of Pistoia (very well connected to the other tourist destinations of Tuscany) and the Apennine Mountains, with their peculiar environment.

The Villa has been renovated in 2008. It offers wide common areas and all modern comforts. It is provided of a fitness room with sauna, jacuzzi and gym equipment.

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is certainly one of the best known among the Italian regions. It is the land of the Renaissance's capital city, Florence, as well as of many other beautiful medieval towns and villages. It is worldwide famous for the beautiful sweet hills and for the excellence of its wines and food products.

All the different areas of Tuscany represent a world to discover for their natural peculiarities, for the widespread architectural wealth, for the gastronomic traditions and the many folkloric and cultural events.

Pistoia area

Although less known than other Tuscany's art cities, Pistoia offers a very well preserved medieval centre, with many good restaurants and an picturesque bi-weekly market.

The area around Villa Le Panche, known as the "Pistoia Apennines" is a perfect holiday destination for people who appreciate its fresh summer climate as well as a very well preserved environment with plenty of trekking routes to enjoy on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike. It is rich of rivers for canoeing and fishing and offers many opportunities for practising all kinds of outdoor sports.

Moreover, in summer season this area offers to their guests dozens of cultural and recreational events, such as music and folklore festivals, gastronomic fairs and medieval re-enactments.

This area is also a very well known and appreciated winter holiday destination. Ski resorts as Abetone (with over 80 kms of tracks) and Doganaccia (Cutigliano) are reachable in 30 minutes from Villa Le Panche, while Nordic Ski facilities are at 15 minutes drive (near Maresca).

All main facilities (shops, supermarkets, banks with ATM, post offices, pharmacies, hospital) are very closely located (between 1 and 10 km from the property).

For those who are interested in visiting Tuscany's art cities or the beaches of Versilia, Pistoia stands in a central position and is very well connected via highway and railway with all potential destinations.

How to get there

Three airports within 1 hour distance by car (Florence, Pisa and Bologna). The closest one is Florence's, at 40 minute drive distance. Low cost flights to Pisa airport from all over Europe and a daily direct flight from N.Y. City by Delta Airlines. Many Ryanair connections to Bologna as well.

The nearest highway exit is Pistoia (20 minutes from Villa Le Panche), located right between the renowned cities of Florence and Lucca (another 20 min. drive). It represents an ideal starting point for daily excursions to discover Tuscany and its jewels.

Villa Le Panche is also connected to Pistoia railway station with a bus every hour (bus stop right in front of the property).

Trains to Florence and to Viareggio (beaches) depart from Pistoia station every 30 minutes.

Villa Le Panche has been recently refurbished and it is now a very comfortable mansion with wide common areas (three living rooms, a 16 place dining and a cosy kitchen), 5 double bedrooms (all en suite bathrooms) and an indoor fitness area with a 4 place sauna and a 7 place hydro massage.

This makes our property very enjoyable even in the snowy winter days or whenever the swimming pool is not available.

Further details outdoors:
Outside the Villa our guests can enjoy the heated swimming pool, relax in a 2000sq.m private garden with apple and maple trees and walk along the shady banks of the Reno River.

Villa Le Panche is in fact located in a very green area, at a distance of 35 minutes by car from Florence and just 15 minutes from downtown Pistoia.

For those who are interested in visiting Tuscany's art cities or the beaches of Versilia, Pistoia stands in a central position and is very well connected via highway and railway with all potential destinations.

During the winter season Villa Le Panche can be an ideal starting point for the ski tracks of Abetone (30 min, by car), Central Italy's most famous ski area.

Nous avons passé une semaine de rêve en profitant bien sûr de la piscine, de la salle de fitness, du jacuzzi, du sauna etc…..rien ne manquait pour passer des vacances idylliques et occuper nos ados.
Nos dîners sous la tonnelle et nos soirées barbecue ont apporté un petit côté romantique à notre séjour. La décoration de la maison ainsi que l’ensemble du matériel mis à disposition ont été pensés avec soin.
Nous avons apprécié la gentillesse des proprietaires qui anticipaient avec beaucoup de générosité et d’attention tous nos besoins.

We were overwhelmed by both the warm hospitality by the owners and the comfort of the villa. From the beginning, we felt right at home and there were several opportunities to either enjoy the villa, the pool, the huge jacuzzi and obviously sightsee in Florence or Lucca. The pool, the rooms, and the entire green site near the river were spotless, well maintained and beautifully appointed. A jewel in the Tuscan mountains!
