The Paphos region
Pafos's fishing boat-filled harbour is the most scenic and atmospheric in the South. Brightly painted fishing boats, glass-bottom boats and private yachts crowd into Pafos's picturesque harbour, dominated by Pafos Fort, a squat Ottoman fortress from 1952 built over earlier Byzantine and Lusignan fortifications. The harbour is Kato Paphos's focal point today, just as it was 2000 years ago.
The ancient breakwaters that are still visible in the harbour recall Pafos's former role as the island's Greek and Roman capital – a period that is brought vividly to life in the superb ancient mosaics that you can see in excavated villas behind the harbour.
The beach at Coral Bay, situated 10Km from Paphos, is a half-kilometre of coral-flecked sand, sheltering within two rocky headlands. The Coral Bay beach is a magnet for sand-starved tourists from Paphos and gets more crowded every year, but if you arrive early or late you have a chance of enjoying relative peace.
A burgeoning resort has spawned around Coral Bay which has expanded very fast the last few years and villa developments have filled most of the countryside between Peyia and Coral Bay. Cultural types may find themselves twiddling their thumbs as there is little of historic interest in the resort. However, 'foodies' will find a good selection of bars and restaurants. Coral Bay is a family-friendly place and holiday nightlife is a mix of family entertainment, a handful of cocktail bars and several fun music bars. Anyone wanting a big night out would do better to head for nearby Paphos and get a return taxi in the small hours.
Peyia is a charming hill village with an old church, narrow lanes and traditional whitewashed houses. There are wonderful views of Coral Bay and Kissonerga Bay, one of the finest stretches of coastline in Cyprus, and the peaks of the unspoilt Akamas Peninsula.
Peyia is a favourite with discerning visitors looking for a taste of traditional Cypriot village life. As a result our apartment will appeal to those looking for a quiet sleepy retreat from the coastal resorts of western Cyprus while remaining very close to superb sandy beaches and the well-known resort of Paphos. Most people however know Peyia for its excellent tavernas around its square serving excellent fish and seafood and the traditional meze.
Facilities in Peyia include:
24 hour kiosk
Several banks with ATM machines
Chemist, doctor's & dentist
Taverna's & coffee shops
Restaurants with inside and outside seating
Gym & fitness centre
