The Paphos region
Paphos is the most established holiday resort in Southern Cyprus and amongst its attractions are its ancient mosaic floors, historical sites, a beautiful old harbour, and restaurants situated along the harbour front promenade. Other sites include an archaeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St Pauls Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite.
The climate of Cyprus makes the summer months a popular time to visit with temperatures around the mid 30 degrees Celsius every day. However the cooler winter months attract keen walkers, mountain bike enthusiasts and skiers to the Troodos Mountains and Akamas peninsula areas. Paphos offers shopping on the tourist beach promenade and the old town area of Kato Paphos has a wonderful old covered market area to browse around.
In addition to the wonderful choice of beaches and all year round sunshine the Paphos area offers families a fantastic choice of modern or traditional restaurants, and many things to do and see, from water parks, to go carting, Golf to Luxury spas there is something for all ages to enjoy.
Peyia village is a peaceful charming location and the host to many tavernas, local shops, banks, a bakery,a fishmongers and butchers. There are many restaurants plus a lovely church, village square and beautiful gardens. The narrow streets are filled with old and interesting stone houses with colourful gardens. This village sits on the hillslope overlooking Coral Bay.
Coral Bay offers plenty including nightlife, bars and restaurants plus its famous blue flag beach with tavernas and water sports available.
Further along the coast westwards is Agios Georgios, a lovely secluded beach and harbour, while past this lies the Akamos Peninsular, a wild area of natural beauty that is well worth a visit and ideal for walking. Here you will find Turtle Beach, home to hundreds of loggerhead turtles that return each year to lay and hatch their eggs, with a lovely rural taverna overlooking the scene, which is an ideal location for lunch.
