The Chania Prefecture region
Crete is a beautiful island and is waiting to be explored. The roads are not busy and the scenery is breathtaking. The locals are friendly and always willing to help. The food is simple, but always fresh and the locals love to see you returning time and time again to their restaurants. Crete has a lovely Mediterranean temperature with hot days in summer and warm evenings for that after dinner stroll.
In addition to perfect beaches, Crete has magnificent mountains and a remarkably rich history. Crete is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean, with a population mainly confined to the north coast by the huge mountain ranges that make up the backbone of this long, slender island.
The prefecture of Chania (pronounced "Hania") is the westernmost of the four prefectures of Crete. Its capital is the beautiful town of Chania where modern, Venetian, Turkish and traditional architecture are blended together in perfect harmony, creating a unique and attractive cosmopolitan town with winding alleys full of boutiques and restaurants. The beautiful venetian harbour offers visitors a relaxing dining experience on the waterfront, and boat trips around the harbour.
Nopigia is a small village on the coast to the west of the rugged Cape Rodopou. The village is typically Greek, and the perfect place to enjoy the quiet life of Crete. There are three local tavernas in the village and just ten minutes by car will take you to the port of Kissamos with a choice of tavernas and shops, plus banking and medical facilities.
The beach is mostly pebbly which becomes soft sand as you enter the azure water. At Ble Restaurant situated on Nopigia Beach you can use the restaurant facilities and sunbeds and the famous beach of Falassama is less than 20 minutes by car. The area is quiet and rural with excellent coastline walks with the sea on one side and mountains on the other.
The bus stop is approx 120m away and buses run every each hour to Chania, or the lively port of Kissamos. Whilst a car is not essential, hiring a vehicle would enable you to visit the many attractions further afield such as the famous Samaira Gorge or to take the children to Limnopoulis Water Park.

"Beautiful Villa - Excellent relaxing holiday"
I stayed at Xanadu on a weeks holiday with my partner. The Villa was clean, well equipped and perfectly situated for a relaxing holiday in the sun. The local taverna's serve freshly caught fish and local greek cuisine, with excellent quality and reasonably priced. We hired a car and drive to nearby towns Kissamos and Chania. Chania was very picturesque with a venetian feel with plenty of bars and restaurants. Kissamos was closer, only 10 mins away, also with nice restaurants and cocktail bars. Navigating the roads was simple, and I was a first time driver in a foreign country. However the Villa was so nice, you wouldn't need to go out. On a few occasions we visited the local supermarket and had a BBQ upon the roof terrace at sundown, which was lovely and relaxing with the surrounding scenery. All in all a great, relaxing holiday with beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather. Hope to visit again. Shaun and Tanya

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Xanadu Villa and had a lovely relaxing holiday . Xanadu is a very well equipped villa and has everything you would expect to make your stay comfortable. The villa is only yards from a nice beach with safe bathing and a lovely family run taverna where we enjoyed many delicious greeek meals and hospitality overlooking the beautiful bay. There is also coastal walks right on the doorstep with stunning views of the mountains. We had a wonderful holiday so much so we intend to go back to Xanadu Villa in May and September 2013.
