The Aegean Islands region
The Sangri village consists of two settlements: Ano ("upper") Sangri and Kato ("lower") Sangri. It counts some 250 pernament residents. The village is situated at a distance of some 11 kilometres south-eastern to the town of Naxos (Chora). The village has many things worth seeing.
Kato Sangri still retains its medieval character and arrangement and you will see several medieval towers, the most important being the "Bazaios" Tower built in the 17th century. At the beginning the tower was a monastery. Today, the building has been restored and hosts a lot of cultural activities of any kind, during the summer Festival of Naxos. The visitor can also see a lot of churches, Byzantine and more recent, with interesting architectural features and nice well preserved hagiography. At a distance of 3 km southern to Ano Sangri, at the site of "Gyroula" are found the ruins of the sanctuary of the ancient gods Dimitra and Apollo, dated in the late Geometric period whereas the place seems to have been settled as early as in the Mycenean times. The sanctuary was succeeded by a temple, in the 6th century b.C.
The excavations of the site have brought to light numerous finds, now displayed in the small local museum on the site. Today we know that during the Christian era the ancient temple became a Christian Basilica which was destroyed by the Saracens in the 7th century A.D.
In Sangri you can also enjoy the restaurant of "Johnny" with Greek traditional food and flavours hearing traditional music.
The Naxos area
Naxos has many organised beaches, such as Saint George, Saint Procopios, Saint Anna, Maragas, Plaka, Orkos, Mikri Vigla, Kastraki, Pyrgaki and more. The distance from Sangri to these organised beaches is about 3-7 km. There are a lot of taverns-restaurants and cafes near the beaches and you can also enjoy many water sports such as wind surfing, water skiing., etc.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Naxos airport: 15 km |
| Ferry: | Naxos port: 10 km |
From the "ELEFTHERIOS VENIZELOS" airport in Athens, you may fly to Naxos using the Olympic Airways airlines. The flight should last about 30 min. depending on weather conditions and required route alterations ( in some cases you make a stop on another island before you get to Naxos ). There are often charter flights to Naxos, directly from the UK, Germany, Sweden, and other countries. The airport of Naxos is about 1 km outside Chora Naxos ( also known as Naxos Town ) and you may use one of the taxis outside the airport for your transportation to village "SANGRI". The distance between Chora Naxos and Sangri is about 14 km, which means 15-20 min. by car or bus.
If you arrive also at the airport in Athens, you can take Ferries to Naxos from either the port of Pireaus or Rafina. To go to Pireaus, you can take the X96 bus, which departs every 20-40 min. from the airport. Allow about 60-90 min. for the trip to the port. You can also take a taxi to go to the port of Pireaus, or use the Suburb train from the airport to "DOUKISTIS PLAKENTIAS" station and change with the tube until Pireaus station. Once you reach the port, there are a lot of travel agencies from where you can buy your ticket. Bare in mind that there are more or less 3 types of ferries that can take you to Naxos : a) The first one is a normal ferry. In this case the trip takes about 6-7 hours and the ticket costs about 25 Euros, b) the second case is the so-called Blue-Star ferries. The trip in that case should last about 5 and half hours and the ticket should cost about 30 Euros and final, c) fastest and most expensive option is the so-called High-Speed ferries. With a High-Speed ferry it should only take you 3 and a half hours to get to Naxos, and the ticket should cost about 45 Euros.

We started with a warm welcome from George and Frida that made us feel at home, and continued in the same mood throughout our stay in this wonderful villa. Everything was well in place, clean,... more |

From the very warm welcome from George and his family to the tearful departure, this was the perfect holiday. The villa is set in a stunning private location. It has ideal facilities, including a beautiful swimming pool and perfect shaded out door dining area. Pristinely clean and very well stocked with linen, towels tableware, in fact nothing was missing. Although seemingly quite remote, and you do need a car, there is a taverna 5 minutes away in Sangri Village and the main town and harbour of Naxos is only 15 minutes drive away as are the nearest amazing beaches and archaeological sites. This villa is everything they promise. We had a great holiday. Thanks George, James and Margaret. |
