Casa Carina is a cozy detached cottage with chestnut beams, terracotta tiles, and views towards Cortona and the surrounding countryside, with shared swimming pool (open June to September).
Set amongst working farmland, and in the Summer surrounded by fields of sunflowers and grain, the helpful and friendly property owners live in the adjacent property.
The open plan cottage is comfortable and bright. The bedroom area has a choice of two single beds or one double bed. There is a cosy living room area and fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher. The dining area has a table and chairs to seat two people. The property is all on one level and there is a large walk in shower room.
The owners have a large swimming pool which features Roman steps, travertine marble border, a diving board and large paved areas with sunbeds and parasols, where guests staying in Casa Carina have shared use.
A beautiful chestnut pergola has terracotta tables and chairs, with bbq area, for eating "al fresco", where a gate leads through to the swimming pool.
Only a short drive away is Lake Trasimeno, where Hannibal defeated the Romans, and which is the fourth largest lake in Italy. The lake has small beaches and offers boat trips and water sports.
Made even more popular by the film and book 'Under the Tuscan Sun', Cortona has wonderful restaurants and bars to choose from, as well as gelarerias which have the most fantastic and delicious choices of ice cream. There are also marvellous churches and excellent museums to visit.
Cortona, and the surrounding villages, are great fun throughout the year with their traditional festivals, all of which are equally proud to continue their traditions.
A forty-five minute walk, or five minute drive, outside the walls of Cortona takes you through the woods to the amazing monastery of 'Le Celle' which, Saint Francis founded in the early 13th century, preaching here in 1211. This is something not to be missed as it is absolutely beautiful. Locals and pilgrims alike find great spiritual inspiration from a visit here. You can visit the spartan cell of Saint Frances, with its stone bed and wooden pillow. There is also a church and small shop. Entrance is free of charge.
Casa Carina is ideally located only a ten minute drive to the main A1 superstrada. For those wanting a day trip to either Florence or Rome, the mainline railway station is only a three minute drive away, where you can get trains which go direct.
There are endless places to visit, including Arezzo, Perugia, Montepulciano, Pienza, Siena, Assisi, Montalcino, Deruta, Gubbio, to name just a few. A little further afield are San Gimignano, Volterra and Orvieto.
We also offer other services to our guests at an extra charge, including cooking lessons, cooked evening meals, Italian lessons, tours, bike hire and more.
