The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region
Maria Alm is one of three larger villages in the state of Salzburg that comprise the Hochkoenig's Winter Kingdom. In summer Maria Alm offers much space for walking tours and sports and has its own 18 hole golf course. The lifts have an hourly capacity of 52000. Maria Alm offers an excellent range of skiing for all levels, with a good mix of blue, red and black slopes and a top station height of over 2,000m. Your ski pass is valid for all 866 kilometres of pistes and 270 lifts in Ski amadé, taking you into a ski region suitable for all levels of skier. Although the snow record at Maria Alm is excellent, extra snow cannons were put in place in 2004, as well as a new FIS race course on Natrun.
Maria Alm itself is a beautiful village with small friendly bars and cafes. Other evening activities are ski and snowboarding tours. torchlit walks, swimming and bowling, and ice skating in nearby Bischofshofen.
Facilities include: Ski school, ski kindergarten, gifts shops, sport shops, night clubs, post office, banks, supermarket and petrol station.
Activities available are snowboarding, off-piste, cross country skiing, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, tobogganing and winter walks.
There are numerous attractions within an hours drive: Zell am Zee is 11 miles from Maria Alm, a picturesque town on the banks of the lake. The magnificent Burg Hohenwerfen Castle at Werfen(27 miles); the Ice Caves at Werfen where you can, with a guide, explore this vast natural network of underground caverns; the Krimmler Waterfall at Krimml (45 miles), which has the highest drop in Europe; Salzburg old town and Castle are also well worth a days visit (54 miles).
Maria Alm area
The stunning village of Maria Alm, which nestles at the foot of the 3,000m high Hochkonig mountain, is situated in one of the most spectacular parts of Salzburgerland. The village is home to the beautiful 13thC. Pilgrims Church, its 83m high spire the tallest in the province. Although steeped in Austrian tradition and presenting a picture-postcard image, Maria Alm offers the latest technology to enhance your enjoyment of the mountains. Winter 2004 saw a world first in Maria Alm; a unique combined 8-seater gondola and 6 seater chairlift which takes skiers to the summit of Natrun, above Maria Alm. This will mean it will take only 4 minutes to reach the summit.
Golfers are well catered for in this area with 5 championship courses within a 20 mile radius, the nearest just a 15 minute walk from the apartment!
The village, yet to be discoverd by the mass tourist industry, sits quietly in a valley with lots of opportunities for gentle cycle rides, or more vigourous hill climbs. The open air swimming pool and tennis courts are a short walk from the apartment. With at least 12 restaurants in the village you will never be short of choice for eating and drinking.
Why not plan your visit to coincide with local events and festivals in 2008:
August - Village festival. September - Herbsfest.

Guestbook
Thanks for a fabulous honeymoon, we had a wonderful time! Peter & Steph.
We had a great stay in Maria Alm. The snow of the week before we arrived meant that there was plenty skiing, whilst the fairly mild conditions meant it felt more like Spring by the end of the week. We would definitely recommend it to friends and family.. Chris & Marlous.
We had a wonderful time in such a beautiful village. The skiing was fantastic, and no queueing for the lifts! Sharon & Tom.
Thank you for providing the accommodation which allowed us to have a very enjoyable holiday. It seemed the perfect spot to have an apartment - both for summer and winter, so we may be in touch in future years. Sheila
