The Burgundy region

Saône-et-Loire is the seventh largest department of France and the most densely populated in the region of Bourgogne. In the west the department is composed of the hills of the Autunois, the region around Autun, of the Charollais and of the Mâconnais.

In the centre it is traversed from north to south by the Saône in its wide plain; the Saône is a tributary of the River Rhône that joins it at Lyon and thus is connected to the Mediterranean Sea. The Loire makes its way in the opposite direction, draining into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Canal du Centre links the Saône to the Loire between Chalon-sur-Saône and Digoin, thereby linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic ocean. In the east the department occupies the northern part of the plain of Bresse. In the west its industrial heart is in Le Creusot and Montceau-les-Mines.

Macon

Vergisson is a most beautiful village close to Macon in Southern Burgundy, one of the 5 villages within the famous Pouilly Fuisse Appellation. Enjoy the magnificent scenery and tranquillity that this region of France has to offer.

With Macon Loche TGV station only 10 mins away and quick access to the Paris/Lyon A6 motorway access could not be better. The airports of Lyon and Geneva are only 40 mins & 1hr 30 mins respectively. Wine enthusiasts and walkers will very quickly fall in love with these properties and this area.

The vineyard is BIO DYNAMIC and produces white Burgundy of the highest quality. Our producer Roger SAUMAIZE was recently voted 2nd top grower in the whole of Burgundy. The villages of Pierreclos , Fuisse , St Veran and Solutre are a short drive away as are the Cru Beaujolais villages of St Amour , Fleurie and Julienas. Every village has its own delightful restaurant. Enjoy some horse riding , golf nearby with extensive walks throughout the whole area.

"Clean accomodation, shared facilities, without much privacy."

The accomodation is for a family of 4 with 2 bedrooms,1 bedroom upstairs(no bathroom/toilet facilities) 1 bathroom downstairs, very small 'lounge'area, ok kitchen(lounge is part of kitchen). Big bonus is allowance of our dog. Feel that the lounge/kitchen area is too small for 4 adults, perhaps alright for family with small children. The property is located within a small area of 3 different holiday homes(the other 2 houses are very close and can have up to 6-8 people in each house, which makes the swimming pool area pretty busy and noisy. The holiday homes are rented out prodominantly to a group of investors who have invested in the local pouilly fuisse vineyard. The 1st week we were on our own which was great, lots of activity from 6.30 in the morning, because it was harvest time, the pickers will use, all the shared facilities apart from pool so not that peacefull in the afternoon. The second week the other 2 properties were rented out to the investors and families of investors, if you like privacy, a quiet holiday and a peacefull time this is not the place for you. The pool is all of a sudden quite small when all the 3 properties are filled to capacitiy. Set in a great location, lots of lovely wine, some good restaurants, accomodation is clean and a great base for a cycling holiday around the vineyards. Be organised with shopping, no supermarkets/shops close by. We came predominantly to do the voie vert cycling route, within reachable distance. And to buy wine, which we did to great abundance.

"Lovely holiday house in a glorious setting"

An absolutely lovely spot in the heart of Burgundy. The house is finished to a high spec and is very well cared for. We stayed in the 2 bed place and thankfully the weather was lovely otherwise we might have struggled with the lack of living space. The lounge/kitchen isn't that spacious but the lovely decor and huge bedrooms made up for it. It is too bad that other than your bed or poolside, there isn't anywhere else you can stretch out and relax. But for our purposes it was fine - we used afternoons to explore the area. The caretakers were excellent (David and Nicki), full of great ideas. They were also very accommodating with equipment for our two children (baby and toddler). We were able to borrow beds, bedding, highchair and more. Location wise, within an easy drive of the property are some interesting amenities: shops (we loved the Andre Bio shop - amazing steak), a great little lake with a playground (follow signs to camping), a wee tourist train at Hameau Debouef (very popular with our toddler and since it's a wine shop, also popular with his parents), and a little zoo (it's France, don't expect rides to open before 2pm).

"Excellent"

We stayed here with extended family and booked two of the three cottages. The cottages were clean and the beds comfortable. The view was gorgeous. Loved our time here

"Breathtaking setting with very comfortable and well equipped accommodation."

The view is breathtaking over the lush and rolling vineyards the imposing Roche de Soluté. The buildings are very old so the walls are extremely thick and the rooms very comfortable with high quality attractive sturdy furniture and bedding. There are beautiful oak floors throughout with massive exposed beams. It’s really very charming but without the cobwebs that you would expect of a place with so much character. It’s bring, clean and airy but dripping in charm. We've been twice and cannot wait to go bacK
