Chalet Rhaetia was built in 2003. The family of the builder lives next door, so the standard of workmanship is immaculate! The chalet is wooden and built in the traditional style as a family holiday home for the owner, not a commercial let. It is therefore equipped to a much higher standard than ordinary self-catering accommodation. It has been awarded a "Four Star Luxury" rating by the local Tourist Board. Shops and the nearest mountain lift are just 5 minutes' walk away, as is the local train station.

If you anxious to save money, it is perfectly possible to have a full skiing or summer holiday without hiring a car. We never do in winter! The nearest ski area is a "mere" 80km (bigger than many resorts). Get on the bus outside the door, and in 5 minutes you are at the cabl ecar base for another 240km of skiing! The chalet has spectacular views across the valley and beautiful modern baths for a good warm soak after all that activity!

There are four double bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the lounge. It sleeps 8 in luxury, and can sleep up to 10. One bedroom has a double bed; the other three rooms have twin beds. The double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and shower. The other three bedrooms have a shared bathroom and shower. There is a further guest toilet next to the living area. Each bedroom has fitted wooden cupboards and three walls clad in unvarnished pine in the traditional Swiss fashion. Ceilings throughout are pine. Each bedroom has drawer and shelf space. The beds and bedding are imported from England to ensure maximum comfort. A full freshly laundered set of bedding and towels is provided for each stay. The bathroom walls and floors are covered in fine Italian tiling. The whole house is carpeted. The house is decorated throughout with paintings and prints and rugs imported from England and Denmark. Blending modern with old, there are also antique Swiss cowbells, skis and pewter on show.

Swiss heating and hot water is famously efficient, and the house is fitted with the latest controls. The kitchen is very different from normal self-catering facilities. It is brand new, fully fitted with grill, oven, microwave, toaster and kettle. The fridge/freezer is large, as is the dishwasher. There is also an eating area in the kitchen, as well as crockery and cutlery. As the owner regularly uses the chalet for his family holidays there is a very full range of kitchen implements and saucepans. The living area is furnished with comfy sofas, coffee tables, and custom light fittings. Colour cable TV with 50 channels and a video is provided, together with a hi-fi stereo radio and CD player. The dining table is fully extendable for 10 people to dine in comfort.

Not many chalets have their own private sauna and steam room. Wonderful after a hard day's skiing,

The Graubunden region

Klosters is a small Swiss village with a population of just 3000 and lies 1200 meters above sea level. A world famous ski and summer resort, it can be reached from Zurich within 2 hours by car or 2 ½ hours by train. It is justifiably a world famous ski resort, part of the Klosters/Davos ski complex. It provides 310km of pistes reached by over 40 cable cars, chairlifts and T bars across five mountains, making it one of the largest ski areas in Europe. However is has a lot more to offer than skiing. It has remained a traditional farming village with classical wooden architecture and "chocolate box" chalets.

Klosters

In summer the cable cars operate to provide access to mountain walks and rambles through grassy meadows to stunning peaks. Traditional cowbells can be heard across the meadows. Locally made Alpine cheese and butter are available, as is wine from the vineyards just down the valley. Nature reserves provide protection for chamois and ibex whilst the huge pine forests have protected the red squirrel from the more common grey squirrel that has taken over so much of Europe. Mountain bikes can be hired. There are zoos for the children and wine-tasting in the highest vineyards in Europe for mums and dads. The lake at Davos, just 10mins away provides some of the highest sailing in Europe. Tennis, pony trekking, swimming (both outdoors and in) and a trip on the world famous Heidiland and Glacier Express Railways are all on offer.

What makes Klosters and its surrounding area so special is that it is a conservation area. The villages of the whole region are full of traditional Swiss wooden chalets and have not been allowed to sprawl. There are no massive concrete developments as found in many other resorts. Klosters still only has around 30 shops. The meadows are open to everyone. A day trip to the wealthy eighteenth century capital of Chur is worth the effort. Visit St Moritz for the day. Zurich, just a couple of hours away, is a delightfully gentle city with fascinating architecture and legendary shopping.

"Excellent chalet in a superb location"

Chalet Rhaetia surpassed all expectations. Spacious, well equipped , beautifully clean yet with a with a comfortable and home from home feel right from when you get there. The view from the chalet is pretty unbeatable too! Klosters Dorf is a lovely little village with great transport links-bus stops just down the road and the train station is a five minute walk. The bakery is 5 mins walk away and provided us with a variety of delicious breads every morning. The Visitors Card for Davos-Klosters is amazing value. The local train /bus routes around both towns are free plus 6 cable car /gondolas to various stations in the area. This can save a fortune in fares. Mark, the owner is easy to deal with and very thorough and communicative. The welcome on arrival by Mitzi was great and she is on hand for any queries that may crop up during your stay. Having stayed in many properties in Switzerland over the years, this one is hard to beat!

"We had an excellent time in Klosters and the chalet was ideal for our purposes."

The chalet suited us all, from my mother-in-law in her eighties to our younger grandson aged about 12 weeks while we were there. We found it very well appointed and very convenient for all types of transport links (bus train and cable car). The accommodation was versatile and comfortable. It was helpful to have both a garage and an under-cover parking bay. However, the photograph is slightly misleading in that the property is semi-detached and therefore the picture records more of the house next door. Klosters itself provided endless entertainment for our elder grandson, aged two years and very active, with its swimming pool and play areas . We loved being among the mountains and the scope for different activities was considerable.

"Great place to stay"

This summer was the second time we rented the chalet. The chalet is very spacious. It's clean. It has lots of light. And an incredible view out the front windows. The Madrisa gondola is a five minute foot walk away. A bus stop is located less than 50m away. We typically walked into Klosters Platz. We love Klosters and we love to stay at Chalet Rhaetia.

"We hope we get to come back!"

We were nicely surprised at how much space there was, three floors, nice big rooms, we nearly wished there were more of us to fill it up a bit! (We were 5 people and a baby but the place could have easily accommodated 10) The chalet is very nicely furnished and decorated, with carpet floors, and we felt very much like at home. There is a private sauna downstairs which we thought it was very enjoyable after a day on the slopes. If I have to say anything negative, we just missed a couple of things in the kitchen, like good knives and of a raclette oven.. Also if you are coming with a baby, just be aware that the mattress on the travel cot is very very thin (as is usually the case on those travel cots) and makes the bed quite hard, so make sure you bring an extra little mattress for your baby's comfort. Regarding the location, at first we thought we were a bit far from the village but we found that it was really convenient to catch the bus to go and ski on the Parsenn-Davos side (the Madrisa gondola is 5 minutes walk away), and even those of us who ended up walking with the baby stroller found some nice walkways and didn't even want to catch the train either. So to sum it up, it is a beautiful chalet, very appropriate to offer enough private space for everyone even in a group, conveniently located, very homey and nicely taken care of.

I am delighted that you enjoyed it that much that you want to return! You certainly wouldn't be the first repeat guests and some people have stayed 3/4 times.

"Modern, spacious chalet"

We travelled as a family with two children aged 10 and 12 and had the in-laws visiting. The chalet is modern, clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed all the amenities such as TV, wifi etc. The ski bus stops just outside the door, the ski hire shop is just up the road and there is a variety of skiing terrain to explore. The views from the chalet are beautiful and parking is very easy. Can highly recommend it and we are planning to stay there again.

"A comfortable, spacious, well equipped chalet, ideal for a group."

This very comfortable 4 bedroom chalet is located in Klosters Dorf. This a small village a short bus ride from Klosters Platz. An easy walk down the hill takes you to the Madrissa ski hill, lots of fun but mainly T bars on the slope. A bus outside the chalet leaves twice an hour for Klosters Platz, the main, famous ski area. There are some magnificent ski runs and excellent restaurants on the slopes. We left our skis and boots in Klosters Platz on the first day at a rental shop at the bus/train stop which made things much easier. We took a bus into Klosters Platz every morning, always on time, and in our walking boots. The bedrooms in the chalet were comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space and bedding. There is a very efficient heating system and lots of hot water. The wifi is fast and reliable. There is a laundry room, lots of cooking utensils and a lovely view of the mountain. At night we went to Klosters Platz, where there are some great restaurants. We went by bus or train and took a taxi home. The manager of the chalet on sight was very helpful. She got groceries in for us and helped us with transportation from the station and gave helpful advise. There is a big co-op grocery shop in Klosters Platz which is very good and quite reasonable, there is a smaller shop for basics close to the chalet. We thought the chalet was excellent value and had a superb holiday, with ages ranging from 19 to 69.

"Nice, clean, state of the art home"

House with enough space to live/stay during the day as well. Safe area for children. As remark already made in guest book: a little bit bigger coffee machine :) (and that's the only remark).

"Good time at Chalet Rhaetia"

Very nice setting and good location for ski vaccation. We very enjoyed our stay in the Chalet. Superb for extended family as there is plenty of space and 3 bathrooms. Good connection to bus and train - no car required to be mobile in the area.

"Super holiday in a lovely chalet"

Thank you very much for the use of your chalet at the beginning of August, it was perfect. Mitzi was extremely helpful, picking us up from the station and pointing various places out. At the chalet she explained how everything worked and even took us back to the Coop to get some food shopping. Later in the week she arrived with a replacement sun umbrella and two further sun loungers. The chalet had ample space for 4 people and was well equipped - the only thing we would have wanted was a tea cosy! By far it is probably one of the better chalets that we have stayed in and we have stayed in a number over the years. The walking was also good, as was the weather - the rain giving us a day off! We would not hesitate to recommend you to other visitors to Switzerland and would definitely seek you out if we decide to visit Klosters again. Many thanks to Mitzi for her helpfulness - she even collected us for the return leg to the station at the end of the holiday. Not being left to fend for ourselves all the time was a definite plus factor.
