"Elegant apartment in a lovely area of Florence"
This is a very welcoming, comfortable flat, with all modern conveniences, but with touches of its Renaissance origins in the old tiles and an ancient --- non-functioning -- stove. The furnishings were rather grand yet welcoming. It was extremely quiet, but once you pass through the impressive doors to the street, you are minutes from the Duomo and just about everything you'll want to see. Albizi Street is a section of the old Roman road, and it is a terrific area for strolling, shopping, having a coffee, getting pleasantly lost or marching right to the Arno riverbank.
Both the landlady, Pamela, who lived nearby, and her parents, in the same building, were extremely
helpful when I had a small emergency and needed to phone Canada. They are fluent in
English and just all around lovely people.
I was going to Florence to re-encounter some amazing art and to revisit a city I last saw in 1995 with my late husband. It was a richly rewarding 3 weeks, and so pleasant to come home every night to this charming refuge.
