The Salzburg Region
A traditional, pretty village perfect for families/ friends set amidst magnificent scenery at the foot of the Bischofsmutze mountain and Dachstein glacier, Filzmoos attracts guests who are looking for a typical Austrian village with many facilities close at hand. During the winter Filzmoos becomes a winter wonderland with uncluttered pistes and little or no queuing at the chair lifts – a rare commodity on the slopes these days.
There is plenty of space to roam with something to satisfy everyone from beginners to the more challenging run of Papageno, which boasts a six-person gondola giving access to marvellous descents directly down the village. The village is the heart of the community with the nursery slope and the children’s ski school being at the very centre.
In summer Filzmoos becomes a paradise for walkers, mountain bikers and anyone who enjoys being in the fresh alpine air. There is a large network of walking trails suitable for all abilities and ages with over 200km of footpaths with classified blue, red and black routes. Mountain bikers looking for a thrill can enjoy hundreds of challenging downhills or families of varying age and abilities can enjoy the easier trails on bike or foot.
You can also enjoy mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, visit the championship golf course at Schladming or visit the leisure centre with indoor & outdoor pool, health suite and two bowling lanes situated in the village. A new Thermal Spa in nearby Altenmarkt (15 mins drive) offers a fabulous day out. It has fast slides, a wave pool and indoor/outdoor relaxing areas for the whole family to enjoy. Mom or dad could treat themselves to a mud wrap or one of the many other treatments they have on offer. The chalets are situated on a quiet hillside approx 20 min walk from the centre of the village. A shortcut takes 10 mins max but is quite steep. It is opposite a large wooded area with farmland to the rear - perfect for peace, quite and relaxation. A car would be useful but the walk to the village is very pleasant and not difficult and takes in some breath taking views on the way. A ski bus stops 100 meters from the chalets which collects and drops off at various points in the village. The bus runs every hour from 9am – 5pm, every day except Saturday. During summer there is a 'Wanderbus' that collects at the same point and does a route of the surrounding area and allows you to hop on and off at various points depending on your energy levels.
Filzmoos is famous for its food and offers fantastic restaurants with prices to suit every budget. There are 2 good pizza restaurants in the village and the Hanneshof do a great spag bol for €8. The 'Hubertus Hotel' has 2 Michelin stars and a very good reputation, but you need to book early. The 'Jagdhof' is situated on the mini island in the middle of the village and is a lovely treat. Happy Filzmoos is great for lunch or dinner and during winter is a hub of activity and the place to go for 'Apres' from 4-6pm and the 'Winepries' offers superb Asian cuisine in a contemporary setting. The Erlbacher Gerhard is famous for miles around for its rack of ribs. For €14.95 you get a rack (and a few more) baked potato/corn on the cob or garlic bread - you wont be disappointed! A fabulous coffee shop run by Gaby is situated by the mini island in the centre of the village and serves fantastic coffee, hot chocolate, apple strudel and much more. You can also buy fresh locally baked bread and croissants daily.
The indoor/outdoor pool/sauna centre with 2 bowling lanes is behind 'Happy Filzmoos' and well worth a visit as is the local farm which makes home made ice cream where you can watch the farm cows being milked on a Tuesday afternoon - check all local attractions with the excellent tourist board situated in the centre of the village.
Every Friday evening (weather permitting) Filzmoos brass band march proudly up the high street and settle in the beautiful band stand in the village square. Once a month local school children also provide a display of dancing to the brass band in their traditional Austrian costumes - Filzmoos works very hard to provide its guests with a holiday they will never forget!
During summer you will see/hear a lovely ritual behind the chalets. Every morning approx 8am the farmer behind our properties leads his 5 cows along a path to a gate, which he lets his cattle through, and they disappear for the day into the woods or wherever their fancy takes them. Last year there was a calf born in the woods but i think the farmer was a little surprised by an early delivery! From 4pm onwards you can hear a cow bell accompanied by mooing as they make their way home after a hard day of chewing the cud. They cross the road and wait outside the gate until the farmer or one of the family come and let them through to go home for their supper and bed!!!
During January, Filzmoos hosts the International Ballooning Festival which is an amazing sight - well worth a visit. Please visit the tourist board and speak to Heather (English speaking) and she will give you any information you need and advice on all activities taking place during your stay.
There are nursery facilities for children at the Filzmoos Ski School.

"Lovely chalet in a great location"
Had a great holiday towards the end of March at this chalet with adult children. It was clean and well equipped, with comfortable beds and everything we needed in the kitchen including a small dishwasher. We had fabulous views from the chalet and the area generally which is very picturesque, and there was plenty to do on the days out that we had. You just need to be aware that some of the summer attractions aren't open at this time of year.

"Fantastic Chalet in picturesque small town in the Austrian Alps"
Excellent and very comfortable house in the middle of the Austrian Alps. Very clean, modern and functional chalet with a great view of the picturesque town of Filzmoos. The house is very well equipped with a very complete kitchen and dinner service. The owners are very reliable and manage very well the administration of this property to make your vacation perfect. Located just 70km form beautiful Salzburg. Highly recommendable.

The resort is great for young families. Choice of ski schools and meet the children for lunch and then ski again. Not a big resort but worked for us as you can't be gone too far with ski schools as you have to be back for lunch and then 15:30 pick up. Chalet very nice, slept really well, beautiful location. The owners were very helpful, accommodating and prompt. Very impressed and would definitely recommend.

"a beautiful chalet in a wonderful location"
we had a wonderful stay in the lovely Austrian village of Filzmoos but what really made our holiday was finding Chalet Ebner to stay in. It is set in a fabulous location, very quiet wooded area and within easy walking distance to the village. The chalet was a real home from home at the end of a busy day on the piste. It had all the necessary amenities and is beautifully decorated with lots of space to enjoy both inside and out. It was so nice that we stayed in a couple of nights and ordered in pizzas and pastas. The views of the village from the balcony were stunning Getting to the lifts is no problem as the ski bus stops only 100 mtrs away. We would thoroughly recommend the village of Fitzmoos and Chalet Ebner to stay in. Catr wait to go back next year!!!!

"A truly magical resort"
A truly fantastic ski resort, this being our second visit and was just as magical as the previous times. The local villagers were all friendly and helpful, we can certainly recommend a visit to the Happy Filzmoos opposite the nursery slopes for the Après Ski. We were lucky to be in the village for the start of the balloon festival which was truly magnificent with a great party atmosphere for all ages. We have now stayed in Chalets 1 & 3, which have lovely views down the valley, both are truly lovely, modern and all you could ask for and more. Debbie and Paul think of all the little extras to make your stay a memorable one. The free bus comes every hour as promised to give you access to the slopes within minutes, or the walk is a pleasurable one for those who prefer to do so. We are returning again at Easter and are already counting the days when we can be back. Mick and Cheryl, from Worcestershire

This is exactly how a holiday rental should be! This was our second visit, and, from the initial inquiry to arriving at the property Deborah could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and all my questions were answered promptly and efficiently. The property is superb with every conceivable piece of equipment you could possibly require whilst on holiday. The chalets are decorated in a modern style but with some individual touches that raise them beyond the usual holiday rental. I love to see the little personal items that show that their family use them too. It makes it feel less like a holiday rental and more like you're staying at your friend's! We stayed in the bunk room and the only possible improvement I could suggest is to add a mirror. With 3 couples using the chalet this would be a bonus as the bathroom obviously gets very busy , especially in the evening. The village is perfect for families and people new to skiing. We are novice skiers and it was a great start for us. Paul even organised some private skiing lessons for us which really helped us get the most out of our stay. We saw lots of children at the ski schools having a superb time and the rest of the family could try out the more challenging runs. Serious skiers might need to go further afield to get their buzz! What really stole our hearts during our stay was the apres ski. There were several places to choose from, but our favourite was the Happy Filsmoos, where we spent nearly every lunchtime and evening. The atmosphere is relaxed, warm and, needless to say, 'happy'. The food is wholesome and filling and you can dance (and sing) the early evening away in your ski gear without a second thought - a big plus point for me! Later in the evening, if you still have the energy, the Ken-i-di bar goes on until late and is great fun for karaoke singing and dancing. If you go at New Year you will no doubt run into a great crowd of Irish people who are intent on having a good time and have apparently been coming for a few years. Their repertoire of songs is enormous - nearly as big as their capacity for alcohol! It is all very good humoured and they encouraged every one else to join in regardless of nationality! We stayed over New Year and the views of Filsmoos were amazing in fact I might try and use one of my photos to make my own Christmas cards next year. I am seriously considering booking a summer holiday here as the scenery is so stunning I would like to try it for walking during warmer weather. The addition of a hot tub would absolutely seal it! Deborah and Paul were actually staying in one of the chalets whilst we were there and, although we were quite self sufficient, having hired a car, I did notice Deborah offering to take other guests down into the village in her 4x4, even though there is a local bus service. This is customer service at its best! In summary, I would wholeheartedly recommend any of the 3 chalets available from Deborah and Paul, as the amenities, service and total experience was way beyond our expectations and, perhaps more importantly, was consistent across both visits.
Well - thank you so, so much! I'm delighted your second visit was as good as your first. As the owner i think it important that potential guests feel confident to book their holidays with me. If you are good enough to trust me with your annual summer/winter holiday i make it as easy and hassle free as possible and try to think of everything to make your stay with us memorable. Thanks for the suggestion of a mirror in the bunk room, i will definitely get one put up before the summer season begins. My guests ideas are always welcome and if i can implement them i am happy to do so. The Ken- i- Di is a fantastic bar and i defy anyone not to enjoy it in there. Another good idea about a hot tub but unfortunately i can't help you with that one as we just don't have the space !Look forward to seeing you for your 3rd visit.
