BookThe Fuerteventura region
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary islands (and the closest to Africa), but also the least developed so its not over-crowded. It has some of the best beaches in all Europe - many claim the world !
The location just 70km from Africa makes the climate ideal for year-round holidays. It's warm in winter and cooling breezes ensure you don't overheat in the hotter summer months.
There is something for everybody in Fuerteventura: spectacular volcanic landscapes, variety of beaches for surfing, swimming, snorkelling, or just walking. Surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers regard the Island as a world favourite. Wide choice of trips and activities such as Jeep Safaris, Dune buggy and Quad Bike safaris, Diving , Sailing trips, Island Tours, can all be found at various resorts on the Island.
The El Cotillo area
El Cotillo is still a "Real" village with local people living and working here. This gives it its unique atmosphere of a combination of local culture and tourist facilities. Its centred around a small working fishing harbour and an old harbour now the hub of village activities, especially at Festival times.
Compared with some of the busy resort towns such as Coralejo or Caleta de Fuste, El Coitillo is a peaceful haven of chilled-out tranquillity, but it still offers plenty to do.
A wide choice of Spanish and International restaurants are available within easy walking distance including some with traditional English menu options. A well stocked new supermarket only 200 m from the apartment makes life easy for self caterers. There is an excellent French Patisserie in the village for Coffee and Croixants, and superb cakes.
The beaches however are its main attraction. Choose from large surfing beaches (mind the waves!) to the South, or calm, lagoons with perfect white sand and excellent snorkelling to the North of the village.

We had a fantastic week at El Carmen and are keen to return another year. The apartment is extremely well equipped, not just with the usual items, but with beach gear too. This is the kind of thing that is now so difficult to take with you on budget airlines. The whole operation was extremely smooth with helpful and friendly owners and agents. Sky spotters would love it here as there is almost no light pollution. Surfers would be in their element too. The town is not highly developed but has several good restaurants and the collection of nearby coves provides wonderful beaches for those who like to laze about all day. We were lucky with the weather in February and able to sunbathe and swim in calm and azure water. Definitely a brilliant location for a not so long haul winter break. |

We picked this place due to its close proximity to the beaches that we like in Cotillo. It's easy to get to the lagoon beach with the little fish restaurant or over to the surfing and kite surfing beaches below the cliffs. The apartment was clean and well kitted out and had a little walled patio at the front with a view over the desert with mountains in the distance. Very peaceful. The lady who met us to give us the key was friendly and helpful. The town had some lovely restaurants - Mare Alta was our favourite, and also the bakery/patisserie for pastries and good coffee in the morning! We also enjoyed going over to Coralejo in our rental car to mix things up a bit. |
