Magical "doll's house castle" on clifftop leading to a gloriously uncrowded sandy beach. Come and enjoy our special place - a gothic, castelled cottage in parkland on Ramsgate's East Cliff. Great for spring and summer breaks. Enjoy stunning beaches, hidden coves and lovely walks, before returning too our unique, cosy home.

The charming house, built in 1798, was the gatehouse of Sir Moses Montefiore's estate, where the great philanthropist entertained the young Princess Victoria. It is situated midway between bustling Ramsgate and delightful Broadstairs. Walk along the beach or clifftop and within minutes you come to Dumpton Gap, an off-the-beaten track cove where you can breakfast at Sam's beach shack in spring and summer months, after exploring the rock pools or building a sandcastle.

There is lots of activity nearby: tennis, golf, sailing, swimming, walking, surfing, cycling, birdwatching, fishing.

Excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance, lots of historic sites, five-miles of sandy bays, zoos and animal parks for kids.

The house has two double bedrooms, one with a romantic four-poster and the other with two comfortable single beds. Plus Jack's cabin - a child's bedroom. There is a spacious bathroom, with bath and shower.

Downstairs you step into a long lounge, with wooden floors and shutters, TV with Sky channels and many board games and books. The kitchen is well equipped, with gas cooker, washing machine, microwave etc.The house is cosy in all weathers and has an excellent central heating and hot water system. We provide good quality duvets and pillows - guests only have to bring their own bed linen.

Outside there is a pretty courtyard garden. If you want to bring a pet, please discuss with us. We are happy to accept small, well-trained animals but the cottage is not suitable for big dogs.

"Cute little house on great location"

With little effort of the owner this charming one of a kind house could be taken to a higher level and be well worth its price: WiFi! More and personalized information in the house, there's only … More

WE are disappointed by this appraisal of the Gate House. The sofas are not covered in dog hairs - although, as we are happy for guests to bring a family dog, there may well be the odd dog hair to be found on the dark blue covers.
The cupboards are perfectly clean - this is our seaside retreat too. And wood is a naturally hygienic surface (ask the experts). We don't have WiFi. The Gate House is a listed building and we chose not to spoil it with cabling (a wireless modem works perfectly well).
But most of all, we are unhappy about the attack on our conscientious housekeeper - who looks after the house - and our guests very well.
Four families stayed at the cottage in April and May - the other three left delightful comments in our guest book. One lady was on a visit from New Zealand and she wrote: "A wonderful environment for adults and children. Worth the journey."
The Gate House is a quirky, old cottage. It is not for everyone - just those who have a touch of romance in their make-up.
PS: We will put blackout blinds in the bedrooms.
