Apartment | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
Rather unglamorously, this apartment used to house livestock owned by the tenant farmers. However, the transformation could not be more complete. Two large beautiful arched windows are the main feature of this bright 2-bedroom apartment.
A covered entrance leads to a very light and roomy kitchen/dining/sitting area with a large arched window. The ceilings are beamed and the floors are paved with terracotta. It has two magnificent bedrooms with large double beds. The bedrooms are large and airy, and very cool during the summer. Both bedrooms have large walk-in wardrobes and bathrooms with wet-room showers, w/c and w/hand basin.
The west bedroom has a large double bed with a daybed suitable for a child if you need it (see below). The east bedroom can be made up as 2 singles or a large double.
Le Stalle has its own lovely covered outdoor dining area that looks west towards the beautiful sunset, perfect for your evening barbecues and star-light chats.

The Tuscany region
Podere Patrignone is ideally placed in the very heart of Chianti Classico, almost half-way between Florence and Siena. But despite being only 30-40 minutes from either cultural heavy-weight, we are deep in the Tuscan hills, far away from any noise or light pollution.
The key attractions of San Gimignano, Radda, Volterra, Monetriggioni, and Colle Val D'Elsa are all within easy reach, along with dozens of top-quality vineyards and hundreds of fabulous restaurants. We are just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its full compliment of restaurants, cafes and shops (and a small supermarket).
There is no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 11/2 hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines, clearly visible from Patrignone's Terracotta Terrace. And if you're into cycling, tennis, golf, ballooning or fishing, these activities and more can easily be organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.

Castellina in Chianti
Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicentre of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its restaurants, cafés and shops (and a good supermarket). Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next town along. You really couldn't pick a more central location.
There's no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines clearly visible from Patrignone's terracotta terrace. And if you're into cycling, walking, nature-watching, or ballooning, these activities and more can be easily organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
Castellina in Chianti is located on a ridge between the valleys of the Arbia, Elsa and Pesa rivers. The municipality of Castellina is entirely within the Chianti Classico wine zone . The town is of Etruscan and Roman origin, and was a fife of the nobles of Trebbio in the 11 C and then an important Florentine garrison. Castellina became the seat of local government for the ancient Chianti League together with Radda and Gaiole in the 13 C, but in the 14 and 15 C raids and pillaging were common. The Florentines built the town walls between 1400 and 1402. The wall is dominated by the fortress and huge keep, the Rocca Comunale of Castellina, and is characterised by underground vaulted passages such as the Via delle Volte. The inhabited part of Castellina retains some of its 14 C character, and in the countryside there are many farmhouses from the era of the Grand Dukes of Florence and even earlier. Not far from the centre of Castellina there is a large Etruscan tomb which dates back to 6 C BC.
The churches in the surrounding area are numerous and all interesting, particularly San Martino a Cispiano which has conserved most of its Romanesque features, including a beautiful apse and a single nave, and San Leonino in Conio which holds a Madonna and Child by Lorenzo di Bicci. The village of Fonterutoli, cited in a document from 998, has a long and interesting history. The peace agreement between Siena and Florence was signed in 1201 in its Church of San Miniato (since replaced).
