Home description

Your accommodation is in a brand new but traditional Andalusian cortijo (farm house) named EL CAZADOR (The Hunter), set high upon a promontory within the eleven acres of Finca Los Tigres, a stone’s throw away from Hípica Aguamarga’s riding stables. It is a stunning, spacious and luxurious villa, with an enticing mix of the modern and the traditional. It has a pool of 13x3.5 m and terraces on 3 sides of the house.
El Cazador (The Hunter), a 4-bedroom, 2- bathroom whitewashed cortijo, can comfortably accommodate 6 people in its 144m2 . It features traditional terra cotta tiles on the floors, slate terraces and underfloor solar/gas heating. Every effort has been made to render the house ecologically friendly, using double glazing and double walls with insulation to keep out the heat in summer and lock it in during the winter. We even placed the windows in accordance with the angle of the sun rays to allow more light in in winter and less in summer.

The master bedroom has a large double bed whereas the other double rooms have a wrought iron double bed and twin beds which can be easily converted into a king size bed. The small fourth bedroom contains a bunk bed /sofa combination which, in an emergency, can sleep three people or remain set up as a sofa and a single bunk. All rooms have built in wardrobes. We provide sheets, pillows, pillowcases, duvets, duvet covers as well as cotton blankets for the hot summer nights.

Two fully equipped bathrooms, one with a bath and shower and the other with a shower, make life comfortable even when El Cazador is home to a large family. Towels of various sizes, plus shower curtains and bath mats are all provided.

(N.B. We would ask that you bring your own beach towels although you are free to make use of all sports and beach equipment you find in the property).

The kitchen is large, spacious and open-planned, and connects to the main living/dining area. It is modern and equipped to a high standard with all the facilities you may need including a gas hob, electric stove, large ‘walk-in’-style fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, cooker hood and other various electrical appliances such as a kettle, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. Of course the kitchen also comes complete with tea towels, tablecloths, pots and pans as well as complete sets of both crockery and cutlery.

The main living/dining area is large with a family-sized dining table at one end (conveniently next to the kitchen), seating six people. A sofa and four armchairs can be found at the opposite end, along with a wood-burning Franklin stove to guard you against the occasional desert night chill during the winter months. There is also a television in the living area, complete with satellite TV, DVD player and a large collection of films, comedies and other DVDs for you to watch.

We provide a satellite internet connection but please bring your own laptop and/or printer.

El Cazador is not overlooked by any other property and, in fact, the view from the kitchen and main living area (at the front of the building) is a completely uninterrupted desert landscape with stunning hills all around and a glimpse of the sea to the left.

Surrounding the farmhouse are terraces made of traditional natural stone, leading at the front down to a large, solar heated, swimming pool measuring 13m x 3.5m (approximately 42 x 11.5 feet). The pool itself is located on an ancient Moorish terrace created hundreds of years ago for viticulture, and is made of honey-coloured stone, in keeping with the ecological requirements of the Nature Reserve, and invisible from the countryside surrounding it. There are terraced areas by the pool. The view from the pool is an unobstructed 240-degree landscape for all to enjoy.

At the rear of the property is a gravel driveway leading up to a large space behind the farmhouse. There are no fences surrounding El Cazador, allowing uninterrupted views all around the property. The stables are only a stones’ throw from the front door, with an immense fenced area for riders to enjoy, a short way down the hill directly in front of the accommodation.

A baby cot and high chair can be provided upon request .

The farmhouse is fitted with smoke detectors and has a fire extinguisher.

The supply of water, gas and electricity is all included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that all water at the farmhouse comes from a 140 metre deep well and is suitable for all bathing, washing and other such purposes but is not certified ‘potable’. Large containers of mineral water are widely available and inexpensive.

The Costa de Almeria region

Encompassing part of the 38,000 hectare Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve, the region is unique within Andalusia and even within Europe. The landscape is more closely reminiscent of Arizona than of any other part of the continent, let alone the Iberian peninsula. Such is its dry, desert-like landscape that numerous westerns have been filmed in the area, as well as parts of Lawrence of Arabia, Dr Zhivago and, more recently, the British film Sexy Beast, with Ben Kingsley.

Renowned for its unspoilt and uncrowded beaches, the Nature Reserve has become one of Spain’s most prized possessions.

The Almería province is the sunniest in Spain, and one of the warmest. The sun shines for 320 days a year, the annual average temperature is 19ºC (66ºF) and just 100mm (3.9 inches) of rain falls per year, making this the driest region in Europe.

Almería has the honour of being one of the most under-developed and sparsely populated areas of the south and south east of Spain. This makes for an atmosphere of finding yourself in a region yet to be discovered by the masses – an unspoilt oasis. This despite the fact that the province experienced an economic boom in the second half of the 20th century, thanks largely – but not entirely - to tourism.

The seemingly endless sun – and, more to the point, the lack of rainfall - in this area has created a multi-million Euro industry in gardening. Enormous gardens stretch for mile upon mile, protected from the sun’s heat underneath a greenhouse created of plastic sheets.

Agua Amarga may be relatively remote, however ,it has excellent links to the road infrastructure of this part of Spain, and is within easy reach of the closest city, Almería itself. It is Agua Amarga’s remoteness that has ensured that it has kept its traditional charm, where other coastal locations have given theirs up in the quest for the holy grail of tourism.

Cabo de Gata / Agua Amarga area

Agua Amarga is a small, unspoilt, fishing village of just 200 permanent inhabitants, located in the province of Almería in Andalusia, in the south eastern corner of Spain.

With its traditional white buildings and 800 metres of beach, the village is to be found between two cliffs that hide it from view from all but the most determined or fortunate visitor. Overlooked on one side by the Faro (lighthouse) de la Mesa de Roldán, Agua Amarga is as picturesque a setting as you’ll find in Spain for a relaxing and memorable holiday.

FINCA LOS TIGRES

Further details outdoors:
There are four fantastic beaches within easy reach of Finca Los Tigres: Agua Amarga, Cala Enmedio, Cala de Plomo and Los Muertos, each with their own individual characteristics.

The Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve extends some 3km (1.9 miles) out into the Mediterranean Sea and diving, both for fun and for scientific research, is a major pursuit along this stretch of coastline. There is a diving school in Agua Amarga itself, El Centro de Buceo, that caters for individuals of all abilities, from novices to expert divers. A few minutes north in Carboneras is another diving school, El Club de Buceo Carboneras.

Sailing opportunities abound for visitors of all experience, whether just for fun or if you are looking for something more ‘intense’. It is possible to hire out motor boats, catamarans and small pedal boats in Agua Amarga. Yacht Club San Andres is under construction at Carboneras and the Club de Mar Almería yacht club is extremely welcoming to experts and novices alike, with excellent facilities for visiting yachts. The club offers superb dining facilities with views of the harbour and the comings and goings of the ferries linking the city with Morocco. Further afield to the west of Almería lies the Almerimar Yacht Club, a vast complex ready to receive, service and repair any size of visiting vessel.
