Maison Mielles, is a villa that was totally renovated in the summer of 2010. The house is a very comfortable family house, suitable for very large families or several families sharing. The house sleeps 12 very comfortably, and has a large enclosed private garden, good for running around and football.
There are four bedrooms with twin beds that can be converted into superking size beds if preferred and two other bedrooms, one with a queen size 140cm double bed and the other with a 160cm double bed. They are hotel quality beds, which are extremely comfortable. There are also two wooden cot beds (under 2s).
There are also two high chairs, and we can provide potties, a baby bath, extra high chairs etc if needed. The house is also equipped with plastic plates, spoons and knives for children. My own children are 4 & 6, and so there is a good range of toys for the smalls, including a wendy house, and all the necessary buckets, spades and toys for the beach.
We also supply all the towels for the beach and house, all linens and a 10kg washing machine. Our aim is that you should be able to travel as light as possible. There is a good selection of books and films in the house, both for adults and children, and Sky TV.

In the garden is a further shower, with hot and cold water for rinsing off after the beach. The garden is large and fully enclosed, with room for football and badminton. There is a good sized play house for the little ones and two dog runs with kennels and paddling pools. In every direction are excellent walks, with or without the dogs!
Your Dogs at Maison Mielles
First of all please note our house rules regarding dogs. You may be required to leave if you do not comply.
Dogs must NOT be left alone in the house at any time. You may of course leave them in the kennels. You should bring a travel crate with you, or at the very least your dogs bed, as dogs are allowed in the house, on the clear understanding, that in no circumstances may they lie on the bedding or the sofas.
We reserve the right to decline certain breeds of dog. Where dogs are permitted, they must always wear a collar & identity tag & be kept on a lead under control of a responsible adult at all times. We reserve the right to require the owner of any dog or other pet to remove it from the house if we consider it a nuisance or to be interfering with the general comfort of neighbours.
Dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the sofas or any other soft furniture.
Please bring with you sufficient towels to dry and clean your pet and rugs to protect sofa sides etc. Any damage or stains must be paid for in full. For clarity, our tea towels, bath towels and beach towels are not for cleaning your dog!
The garden is currently dog proof. If your dog manages to get out or makes a hole in or under the fencing it is ESSENTIAL that you inform us. Any dog worrying livestock is liable to lead to the owner beibg sued. Our neighbours train the French international horse teams, and as such these horses are irreplaceable and valued at many tens of thousands of Euros. We are also very close to Les Salines, which are the salt-marshes where large flocks of sheep graze on the open marshes. Any dog seen on the marshes, not on the lead, risks being viewed by the farmers as a threat to the sheep, and treated as such.
Please ensure that you don't leave dog food or rubbish outside as this encourages other animals to try and break into the property!
All dogs staying on the property must be kept on a lead at all times EXCEPT when in the garden or house. Providing there are no race meetings, it is also possible to let your dog free on the racecourse. While this extremely large field is fairly well fenced, it is easy for your dog to get out (the rabbits have made many hundreds of holes under the fence). There is also open access off the racecourse into the riding school, and you MUST NOT let your dog worry the ponies and horses. You should also discourage your dog from making any further holes in the racecourse, when rabbiting.
Noise nuisance, such as barking and howling, can lead to a fine of €450, and will lead to you being asked to leave the property.
Under French law all faeces must be picked up immediately, bagged and disposed of in a bin. This includes in the garden. We provide small blue bags, and a short handled blue shovel to help you do this. At the end of your stay, please take the time to check the garden. Any mess left by your animal will not be appreciated; particularly by the parents of any small children staying after you.
Please ensure that your dog has been properly treated for fleas/tics/worms before you arrive! Rabbits adore the sandy soil of the area, and tics love rabbits, so we would advise you to regularly check your dog for tics.
We clip our dogs' hair very short in the summer because there are some types of grass seed that push into the skin and cause sores. We would advise you to clip the hair on your dogs' feet very short, at the very least and to verify daily that no seeds are causing them discomfort. There is a lady who will come to the house and clip and wash your dog for you, at a very reasonable cost.
The Basse-Normandie region
Historically, Normandy is perhaps best know for the 1944 Normandy Landings, which happened on the beaches on the north east coast of the Manche, about an hour from Maison Mielles. Its most renowned landmark is Mont Saint Michel, an small enclosed island town with a vast Cathedral on its summit.
Normandy is equally famous for its apple products, such as cider, pommea and calvados, and for its pork products such as andouille of Vire. La Manche is also the main dairy region of France, famous for its cheeses such as Camebert, Coutances and Pont L'Eveque.
In 2012, Normandy will once again be in the news as the site of the World Equestrian Games.
St Martin de Brehal is on a 12km sand beach that stretches north from the town of Granville, birthplace of Dior. Granville is said to have a micro-climate, due to the Gulf Stream which runs through the bay of Mont Saint Michel.

This is an amazing house to stay in. It is spotlessly clean, beds and bedlinen of high standard and the kitchen is so well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glasses etc etc. The outside space is great, good size patio with furniture and enclosed, safe garden, the children loved it. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach which is beautiful. It is such a peaceful spot. The beauty is that you can travel as light as possible because all needs are catered for as Polly states in the house details. The village is within walking distance but very few restaurants were open in the evening, I believe it all comes alive in July & August. This didn't spoil our hols as we tended to use the BBQ. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to my friends and we will certainly be returning.
