Fly with BA, Virgin, Air Mauritius, Air France, Emirates. 50 minutes from the Airport. Private transfers from airport arranged at nominal fee. Private driver can be hired for a fraction of the normal tourist rate. Best flight price tips....
As flightbrokers have different commercial relationships, it's important to try as many as possible, in case you hit lucky and one has a special deal to your destination.
The two to try first:
* Expedia* is the flightbroker big brother; its strengths are allowing multi-destination flight searches and many special offers, One nifty extra trick is if Expedia is cheapest, check out the near identical site Greenbee it runs for John Lewis; the prices there differ slightly and are thus sometimes cheaper.
* Opodo. For standard airlines' flights. Opodo* is owned by nine large European airlines, including BA and Air France, and as such for standard flights with main airlines, tends to undercut everyone else by a smidgeon. Plus it also allows multi-destination searches.
The best of the rest
If possible do check the others: Travelocity is often excluded by screenscrapers and has some strong exclusive special offers, Ebookers*, which is similar to Expedia, Lastminute.com* which offers Netflights* for long haul.

We had a fabulous stay in this glorious place. Everyday we would walk past the exclusive hotels and think how lucky we were to have our own villa right on the beach! Staying in a villa for us was preferable to staying in a resort as we wanted to spend quality time with extended family, much easier in a villa as you are not restricted to a room or surrounded by other people all the time. The villa option for us worked well as we could sit on the patio and still keep an eye on the kids running in and out of the pool, as well as being able to help ourselves to drinks and snacks at any time without paying hotel prices for them. We bought crayfish and fish direct from the fisherman and loved being able to have these casual meals together in a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel restaurants only opened at 7:30pm which was sometimes a bit late for our little ones after a busy day, so we often opted for a home cooked take out of Mauritian curry prepared by Ravi's wife - absolutely fantastic. If you want to dine out, top hotels are an easy walk away. My father in law is 78 so we did not venture out too far, but really enjoyed the beach bar restaurant at Ambre, the hotel next door on a few nights. The staff, especially the caretaker/driver/tour guide Ravi is great and nothing is too much trouble. |

From my first enquiry, Louise, the owner was very helpful and informative. She has taken the time to produce a lengthy document packed full of information, both about the island in general and the area in more detail. We were met at the airport as arranged and taken to the house. Unfortunately it was wet and windy but very very hot! We arrived in a cyclone which lasted several days but there are no weather guarantees in the tropics. The house is not large but perfect for four adults or a family with children. It is exactly what she says "a beach house". It is a holiday home with all you need, and the beach could not be closer. We did a mixture of eating out, cooking and making use of the BBQ. Ouma the housekeeper keeps the house clean on a daily basis and is happy to iron etc for a supplement. We hired a car for the duration of our stay. This was cheap enough and gave us some flexibility especially on wet days. The house is on a small complex and most of the houses were occupied at some point. Mostly by French or Mauritian people. The swimming pool is large and a welcome respite from the heat. We found the sea to be too shallow for swimming which was a shame as it looks so beautiful. We had many walks along the beach, both ways, past all the hotels. There seem to be fishermen in the sea most of the time catching the little fish, and there was always something to look at. We did explore the island a little but actually quite liked where we were. The nearby village, Belle Mare, has some really nice little local shops we were delighted to support. And then there are the large "designer" stores where you have a minder on entry, disliked that! It was most certainly a place to relax and get away from the pressures of normal life, this we did in spades! |

There was lovely towels, bath robes and bed linen.Basic shopping available in local village short walk away.Larger shop recomended from supermarket with help from Ravi.Fresh produce market was fab and very cheap. |
