The Tuscany region
THe rolling green tuscan hills with breathtaking panoramas alternating large vineyards, olive tree groves and winding cypress tree lined roads leading up to monasteries, farms or pictoresque villages will enchant you!
The immediate area counts 5 hilltop villages and Lucignano is ideally located 7 mins. from the A1 autoroute leading north to the medieval pageant town of Arezzo (20 kms) where there is an Antique fair the 3rd weekend of every month and further to FLorence (100 kms). Florence can also be reached by fast trains from Arezzo (40 minutes). Sienna is a quick 40 minutes drive Northwest by Autoroute (or take the local coach from nearby Monte San Savino). Southwards via the famous hill crest road you can taste the pleisures of Montalcino, Montepulciano (famous wine villages) and Pienza (an old rennaissance Papal town renowned for it's local goat's cheese). The charming town of Cortona (25 minutes by car), spills down the hill and attracts artists from around the world and you'll enjoy visiting the various chapels, churches and small museums or just sitting in one of the piazzas taking in local life. A few kilometres away from Cortona is the Trasimeno lake where a leisurely boat trip will take you around the islands and resort villages by the lake.
Fast speed trains from Arezzo will take you to FLorence or Rome in 1 hour.
There is always lots to do locally around Lucignano without going afar to the popular tourist centres and you will be enchated by Tuscan hospitality, history and gastronomy. Throughout the year the countryside is spectacular - if you want to avoid the crowds come along in Spring or late summer (temperatures cool down from mid-October) or come and enjoy the local fiestas, outdoor festivals and sunflowers in July & August.

"Traditional Tuscan Hospitality"
Nestling in the little viaalage of Croce just outside Lucignano, a charming hill-town, Dario’s property is a comfortable and cosy base for exploring Tuscany. It has great views of Lucignano and the surrounding countryside, and is within easy reach of Siena, Arezzo, Cortona and Montepuliano. In the immediate vicinity there are also numerous less touristy villages worth exploring. Dario is a kind and genial host who anticipates all your needs and is anxious to accommodate them. We loved staying here in this atmospheric retreat surrounded by vines, olives, chickens and excellent views. Dario’s fine home-produced wines, grappa and limoncello also contributed to relaxing evenings and sound sleep. We look forward to returning.

"The best place i have ever stayed"
What a fantastic place in the middle of the Tuscan Countryside. The owner Dario and his family are brilliant and couldnt do any more to make us feel at home. We really felt that we were part of the family. Darios Red wine is the best organic wine in Tuscany with no sulphates added and made from his own vinyard that he showed me around. his Lemoncello is the best i have tasted ever. and Momas eggs are beautiful. The apartment is great the photos dont do it justice, clean and everthing you need is there. The town close by (Lucignano) is fanatstic with its own spring water and plenty of Cafe's and Restaurants. Dario recommended some places to eat in other small tuscan towns that were fab. Dario we miss you all so much and are coming back next year. Thanks to you all for a fantastic best vacation ever John Karen & Katy xxxx

"Much more than just a great apartment, a superb experience."
We could not fault the apartment or the facilities, everything was spotlessly maintained and we immediately felt "at home" in the apartment. We also could not fault Dario the owner with his kind offers of help, friendliness and generosity. The location is also superb with lovely views and sunsets over the nearby town of Lucignano. The apartment is ideally situated for visiting many of the attractions in Tuscany and you don't need to travel far to see them. We were sad to leave and could have stayed for another week or 3 but have vowed to return as soon as we can.

"The perfect place to stay"
What a place. From the first moment we arrived at the apartment Dario made us so very welcome. Even though this is a working farm Dario was always available if we needed to ask any questions. He is so very proud and rightfully so of his home made 'Organic' red wine and Lemoncello which made our evenings even more pleasant. Perfect location, perfect hospitaly. Thanks Dario.

"Best Kept Secret, home away from home, complete with home brew and farm fresh eggs in central Tuscany"
If you are looking for a peaceful place to call home while in the heart of Tuscany Dario Casini’s apartment in La Croce is perfect. Brunello’s famed and very pricey wine pales in comparison to Dario’s chianti which is total totally organic and is known to turn even the most committed beer drinker into a wine connoisseur. Grappa and limoncello are also available. Mama’s chickens lay eggs with yolks so bright they nearly blind you. The apartment is fully equipped with a large refrigerator even by American standards, any type of kitchen utensil you could possibly imagine, an abundance of linens, and two washing machines at your disposal. There is a bakery 150 meters down the road with delicious goodies and a staff that is more than willing to help you with your Italian. A bar that serves both coffee and alcoholic brew is about 50 meters further with a wee park just across the roundabout where locals fill their water bottles and neighborhood children play. Less than 3 kilometers up the road is the beautiful hill town of Lucignano, unique with its 3 cylindrical roads surrounding the town center. A friendly florist who speaks a bit of English is happy to help you with an arrangement for that special occasion. The local market next door to one of many coffee shops offers fresh produce and any items you may have forgotten to bring from home. Should you find yourself in need of milk, as we did, when markets are closed, the cafés are happy to sell you a quart from their own supply. If you feel the urge to see popular Tuscan towns La Croce is a scenic and pleasant drive to most all of them but do spend time in the immediate area as, for now anyway it is a well kept secret. As we have, you are assured of leaving with tears of sadness and promises to return.
