Home description
Ideal for Summer holidays or in Winter as a base for a Ski holiday, Apartment 1 is one of three individually designed apartments at Résidence les Gentianes, conveniently located in Doussard at the southern end of beautiful Lac d'Annecy. Only a few minutes from the shores of the Lake and its spectacular scenery, swimming, water sports, cycling and walking; also good for golf; pony riding. It is convenient by car for Annecy itself, as well as Albertville and ski resorts including a nursery slope at Montmin a few minutes away, Le Semnoz nearby, La Clusaz, Les Saisies and Megève. Chamonix and Mont Blanc are also reachable, by motorway.
Finished during 2003, Apartment 1 was awarded 4 stars based on sleeping 6, downstairs in the main bedroom (UK king size bed) and upstairs in the mezzanine double bedroom and bunks in bedroom 3. Including the sofa-bed in the living area, it can sleep up to 8. Apartment 1 is equipped to a very high standard. It has a large balcony with a view to Mt du Charbon; and a basement garage (with a heated ramp to prevent icing in winter). An excellent supermarket, bank, local shops, bar and brasserie all are less than 5 minutes walk.

The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
Doussard and Annecy are in the region of Haute Savoie. The nearest airports are Geneva to the north (that also has most flights in summer and in winter) and Chambery to the south (winter only). Having said that, Grenoble, Lyons and St Etienne airports to the south also are practical options.
Thônes is a charming market town 30 minutes to the east with excellent value restaurants and bars around its town square, and with speciality shops. The winter resort of La Clusaz is only 10-15 minutes further, with spectacular views and one of its cable cars leading to a summer luge.
Other ski resorts including Les Saisies and Megève are reachable. The Winter Olympic centre at Albertville is 25 minutes to the south. Courchevel is not much more than an hour, via the dual carriageway at Albertville. Chamonix is around an hour from Annecy by motorway, leading to the Mont Blanc Tunnel into Italy, so you can have lunch in Italy and be home for dinner.
L’Aigue du Midi is a spectacular platform including a shop and restaurant near the summit of Mont Blanc, accessible from Chamonix by cable car. The highest point in Europe that's accessible without having to climb!
Geneva, with its fashionable shopping and jet de l’eau on Lac Leman, is about an hour from Annecy. On another day, you can have lunch in Geneva or in one of the resorts along Lac Leman, and (again) be home in time for dinner. France, Italy and Switzerland in 2 days!
Annecy / Doussard area
Doussard is close to many activities for Summer holidays, and in Winter it's convenient for several ski-stations. There are good food shops including two supermarkets, charcuterie and boulangerie, a summer market on Monday mornings; and bars and places to eat.
Apartment 1 is only a few minutes from the beach & port at Bout du Lac/Doussard. From May-Sept a water bus leaves three times daily for Annecy, for shopping, restaurants, history and theatre. By car Annecy is 25 minutes along the west side of the lake, and not much longer along the east side. (You can cycle between Doussard and Annecy on a dedicated cycle piste) As well as water sports on the lake, you can hang-glide with an instructor from Col de la Forclaz, above Talloires.
We are halfway between spectacular golf courses at Golf du lac d'Annecy (tel +33 4 50 60 12 89), and the 9 & 18-hole courses at Golf de Giez (www.golfdegiez.com) with its views of Mont Blanc and Lac d'Annecy. Each is about ten minutes away. In 2004 the Tour de France route passed near to Doussard.
Annecy is the regional centre, both modern and historical at the same time. It has department stores, speciality shopping and a modern shopping mall, not far from the Old Town where there is a huge choice of restaurants and bars by the canals. As well as the water omnibus that circumnavigates the lake, stopping at all six ports for hopping off and on around the lake, during the summer you can take tourist cruises and even have lunch or dinner on board the "Libellule".
The mountains above Lac d'Annecy are famous for para-gliding and there's an international competition in August. A popular landing area is at the sports pavilion on the edge of Doussard.
Visitors who have stayed during the winter have enjoyed being able to visit different ski-stations on different days, before visiting Annecy in the evenings for a wider choice of restaurants than is available in most ski resorts.

The kitchen includes an oven/grill and hob, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave oven and a Bosch dishwasher. There is also an automatic washing machine and tumble dryer, and an airer, iron and ironing board. There is a dining table with 6 chairs, and a patio table with 6 more chairs that can also be used as armchairs indoors. Satellite TV receives around 30 English-language channels including BBC and ITV, news, music and cartoons. Each bedroom has at least one armchair, and these can be moved into the living area to provide sofa or lounge seating for seven. Electricity is included for summer rentals; bed-linen and bathroom towels are provided for a fee to cover the cost of laundry and a 'standard' after-stay clean. (We trust clients to leave the apartment tidy, but don't expect you to mop and dust before leaving!) Résidence les Gentianes has always booked quickly for the most popular times. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment
Further details outdoors: The large balcony (almost 12m2) is big enough for eating outdoors in the warm weather, and there are two deck-chairs for sun bathing. With the view to the south to Mt de Charbon, the sun shines onto the balcony from around lunchtime until sunset. There are three bicycles that you are welcome to use (at your own risk!) - the piste cyclable that runs the entire length of Lac d'Annecy is only 5 minutes ride from Residence les Gentianes.
