The Costa de Almeria region
Almerimar is one of Spains best kept secrets, it is an area of outstanding beauty that enjoys sub-tropical micro-climate with an average of 320 days of sunshine per year.
The resort is built around the original harbour that berths over 1,000 boats and is flanked on both sides by unspoilt beaches and natural parks. The town is bursting with pride and as you first arrive you are immediately struck by the beauty of the resort, the palm lined roads and beautiful floral displays and immaculately kept green areas.
The harbour hosts many fresh seafood restaurants, Chinese restaurants, Italian, good value Spanish cuisine, Cafe bars and Tapas bars all situated in lovely surroundings overlooking the Harbour for you to sample at your leisure. There is an excellent supermarket 2 minutes walk from the apartment where most provisions can be found, including an excellent selection of local and regional wines to sample, and 5 minutes away there is a commercial centre (Copo) with a hypermarket, numerous shops, multi-screen cinema, more restaurants,children's play area. The resort of Almerimar is peaceful and relaxing, however there are many sports facilities on offer. Horse riding is available through the local stables near to the beach.
Golf is a big attraction to the area and the resort boasts a championship course with 27 holes on a surface of approx 802,000 square meters, featuring several water holes and beautiful mature landscape and lakes that will challenge any experienced golfer.
Water sports are available for the enthusiast, you can practice all kinds of water sports such as wind-surfing, fishing, yachting, diving and swimming.
Almerimar / Portofino Complex area
Almerimar is immersed in the heart of Costa Almeria, 30 kms from the capital Almeria. There are many beautiful coastal towns nearby to visit, Roquetas De Mar, being the nearest and largest holiday resort in Almeria, Aquadulce and San Jose, Mojacar Pueblo and playa, Garuccha, Cabrerra to name but a few...
Other places of interest are the nearby Tabernas desert, where you can visit Mini Hollywood, the location used for filming many spaghetti westerns ie. A Fistfull of Dollars. Many of the film sets have been preserved and are open for visitors.
Skiing is just two hours away in the Great Sky Station ski village resort towards Granada in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The journey up to the resort on the top class mountain motorway provides breathtaking scenery. Snowboarding and skiing at all levels can be accessed, hire of equipment is available at very reasonable costs.
For children and adults alike there is a Water Park in the neighbouring resort, Roquetas De Mar.
How to get there
The Apartment is only a short 30 minutes drive from Almeria Airport along the coastal motorway.
Monarch, Jet2, BMIbaby, Easyjet and Ryanair all have regular flights into Almeria airport, flying from most UK regional airports.
Spanair and Iberia also have regular flights into Almeria Airport.
Malaga, Granada and Murcia are also options to fly into as they are approximately within 2 hours drive along coastal roads with breathtaking scenery.
