“Vacation far from the madding crowd” We received excellent service both in booking the property via email and during our stay. Within an hour of arrival the owner telephoned to check that everything was in order and within two hours his mother who vacations in the house above us called in to offer helpful information about the area and places to visit.
The house was set in an idyllic, tranquil location perched above the waters of the False Le Have with fantastic views all around. From the outside decks you could walk a few steps down to the boat landing stage, or rest in the screened pavilion overlooking the water. We ate several meals out on the decks, or just relaxed with drinks or books in the afternoon sun.
The house was charming with a galley kitchen, which was stocked with enough equipment to cater for an army; a pleasant dining room looking out to the water and housing a beautiful old fashioned wood burning stove, which provided heat and could be used to cook on.
A large bathroom sported a claw foot bath with a shower above it, and a composting toilet which we had fun getting used to. All the bedrooms were comfortable, and the house was tastefully decorated. Everything was clean and well cared for.
The bathroom downstairs led into a store room which housed a washer and drier and all manner of tools and equipment for any emergency. A stock of candles came in useful when we came home after dark to find the island had had a power failure due to a tree falling on power lines.
The owners had compiled a folder of useful information - places of interest to visit, restaurants to try, and walks in the area. We enjoyed many of these on and off the island and even had a boat tour around the island with a very friendly lobster fisherman who told us many stories of the people and places.
What we liked best about our stay was the situation of the house surrounded by water on three sides with no other house visible around us.
“vacation of a lifelime” I brought my family to Nova Scotia to fall in love with it the way that I have always loved it. Rise again Cottage was in the perfect location with a beautiful ocean view. There was lots to do with beautiful beaches nearby and kayaking right out the front door. Fern made us feel welcome and cared for. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
“Great Time- 5 Star View and accommodation” We spent two weeks at Skyview last June and we had a great experience there. The place was as advertised and the views were fabulous.. With the number of decks you can follow the sun around the place over the course of the day.
Skyview is a very quiet place but is only about 25 minutes from all the amenities that you will ever need for your stay. We used this as a base for explore the area. It's location puts much of the south east coast within an hours drive for day trip planning. The best beach around is at Crescent beach which is a few kilometers from Skyview. It stretches for a couple of kilometers. Great sand and a shallow slope. We went just before summer high season and practically had the beach to ourselves. The dog loved it.
We went by the list of local atractions that Mont supplied and we were not disappointed. We really like the bakery at LaHave River and the local winery (It is reputed to the oldest vineyard in Canada). The marine museum on the road to Skyview is also worth a visit. It provides a lot of history on the area that you are staying. It's worth an hour of your time.
The accommodations were top notch with a great kitchen. The only thing it needs is a sharper knife. We had great weather and would have liked to have done more outdoor barbequing but the BBQ was really small. A larger unit would be useful.
Mont, the owner was very attentive to any concerns. We had a small problem with the water after a power bump but it was resolved quickly with a phone call.
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay at a higher end place in the Bridgewater area.
