St. Peter's cottage

“A unique and memorable experience of tranquility and wholeness” Our vacation at Kayak Cape Breton has been one of the best vacations ever. The cottage was perfect, and consistent with both our expectations and needs, inside and outside: equipped with everything one may want in a couple of weeks time off from a noisy urban environment, clean, spacious and functional, a properly equipped kitchen, and above all, with a splendid view of Bras d’Or Lake, which we used to contemplate during in-doors breakfast or enjoying a cup of tea or a glass of wine on the terrace. The direct access down to the beach was a precious asset of renting this cottage; a superb setting for memorable moments with your ‘significant other’. Besides, although the neighbouring cottage is close, the forest peacefully protects your privacy. Actually you’ll never guess there is another cottage in the vicinity unless you have been told or looked for it yourself. If you long for privacy, silence and tranquility in a natural setting, this is the perfect place for you. There are only 12km to the closest supermarket in St. Peter’s, a beautiful small town with good people, among whom one could never feel lost or lonely. As for how we spent the 10 days vacation there, it was a full time, active, and busy escape to Sidney, Louisbourg (the English Fortress), Inverness, and above all to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, one of the Canadian natural wonders. Hiking and driving in the Park were the ultimate touch of a perfect day by day experience, followed every night by a bath in the lake in front of the cottage and a deserved and peaceful over night sleep. We actually plan to return to Kayak Cape Breton, because there is a feeling that we have not grasped enough of the tranquility and wholeness of that place. Besides, the owner is one of the most attentive and courteous hosts that we have ever met on our journeys, calm, cautious, experienced, and sympathetic toward both the natural environment and his fellow humans.

Nova Scotia holidays

As one of Canada's most beautiful and welcoming states, Nova Scotia draws millions of visitors from all over the world who come here to experience breathtaking natural landscapes. This area is steeped in history and culture as well, and offers a wealth of museums and historic sites. Nova Scotia is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway or a family holiday, and the best way to experience it all is with a stay in a holiday rental of your own. A downtown apartment or cabin in the wilderness can offer convenient access to your favourite activities, and all the space you need to relax in style and store your outdoor gear.

Wake up in your lakeside cabin or beach condo and watch the sunrise while enjoying coffee on your private deck. Spend your days exploring the downtown shops and art galleries, teeing off on a champion calibre golf course, sailing, hiking, or biking. At the end of a long day of exploration and adventure, come back to your home away from home and host dinner for your family and friends.

Here are a few additional suggestions for your trip:

  • Go hiking and camping: Nova Scotia is home to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, a beautiful place to hike or bike the trails and spend a night under the stars.
  • Visit the North Highlands Community Museum in Cape North: Explore the exhibits of this fascinating local museum to learn more about the culture and natural history of the Canadian coast.
  • Take a whale watching tour: Nova Scotia is famous for its whale watching opportunities. Tour guides here will take visitors to the best places to view elusive whale species during any season.
  • Visit Fort Louisburg or the Citadel National Historic Site: Both of these preserved military fortifications offer guided tours explaining Canada's French colonial history.
  • Wander the Halifax Public Gardens: These beautiful gardens are located in the heart of downtown Halifax and offer a wide variety of native and exotic blooming plants and trees.
  • Visit the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse: Climb to the top of this historic lighthouse that has protected ships from Nova Scotia's rocky shores for centuries.

No matter what fun and inspiring activities you have in mind for your holiday, you'll find what you're looking for in Nova Scotia. And you won't have any trouble finding the perfect holiday rental or luxury cabin that offers everything you and your family need. While you're visiting Nova Scotia, consider trips to other beautiful Canadian destinations as well, like Prince Edward Island.

The Forest Yurt at Cabot Shores
Effortless and comfortable camping

The nights were cold so we had to wrap up warm and shiver on the way to the outside loo in the early hours. But the skies were crystal clear with easy star gazing and clean crisp air. A great outdoor experience with the comfort of indoor hot showers and a spacious indoor area for eating, talking, playing music and enjoying views out to sea. Very friendly hosts and staff, free am meditation session and soon to be yoga retreats on offer in the new magnificent building. I enjoyed my 2 nights here in October and the night time cold would not be an issue in the summer.see more
