Villa / 5 bedrooms / sleeps 12
300 sq.m. villa with enclosed garden in Tomino, Cap Corse, Haute Corse, overlooking Macinaggio.
The villa was planned and designed to take advantage of its spectacular position. It is built on 3 levels. The top level is an enormous living cum dining room of 100 sq.m. which opens onto a spacious patio with magnificent views over the Tyrrhenean Sea and the Mediterranean islands of Elba and Capraia; the yachting marina of Macinaggio directly below and the yachts moored in the bays around about; and of the wild Cap Corse headlands which is a French National Reserve.
The villa sleeps 12 comfortably without resorting to extra sofa beds and futons. There are 3 very large double bedrooms. One of the double bedrooms has a double bed and two single beds, another has a double bed and a bunk bed. The third double bedroom has a bathroom en suite. The kitchen is big and airy, with long windows that open out on two sides to the beautiful views, on the third side there are patio doors which lead onto a very sheltered smaller patio. The kitchen has a central island with cupboards, dishwasher, cooker and oven, double sink and work surface. The patio is the family breakfast room and an extension of the kitchen; a sunny, private, sheltered space. One can choose where to have barbecues; when we entertain we have them upstairs on the large patio but when the family is alone we have them on the smaller patio off the kitchen. Leading onto this patio is also our second living room, which is the TV room and which also has the ping pong table. We are inclined to leave the kids here while we are enjoying the spectacular views, lights and stars upstairs. There is a bathroom on each floor(3), one of which has the washing machine. We have a fenced in garden for our dogs or for young children.
Tomino is a small village on a hill overlooking Macinaggio. It is cool and quiet, and ideal for children who can play safely in the squares and green areas as there is very little traffic and no other dangers. There are also a lot of young children playing in the village during the summer months Macinaggio, and the beaches, is a 5 minute drive down the hill. Macinaggio is very lively, with its waterside bars, restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. This is the place to go when one feels like a bit of fun. It has quite a few good restaurants which all have open air eating. There is a sailing and windsurfing school in Macinaggio, and also a deep sea diving school. One can hire sailing boats, speed boats or kayaks here too and explore the bays around the Cap. There is also a magnificent walking trail around the coast, which is not strenuous.
Tomino is a 40 minute drive from Bastia. Bastia is the capital of Haute Corse, a beautiful, elegant and interesting city with its medieval citadel and picturesque old port. Bastia also has a modern port where the ferries arrive, and an airport. The drive from Bastia to Macinaggio is easy and spectacular; a winding road that snakes its way along the magnificent coast. It is very hard to believe that one is in our lovely but crowded Europe when one is on Cap Corse.

The Corsica region
Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea. It has a glorious coast with azure water, golden sandy beaches, picturesque bays.
The interior has majestic mountains and rich forests.
Haute Corse is the northern part of Corsica. Its capital is Bastia, a beautiful and historic city, elegant and interesting. It has a medieval citadel, the old port, and a medieval historic centre. However, it is also a buzzing and busy modern sea port where all the ferries arrive. It's city centre has chic shops, cafes and bars. Bastia perfectly expresses both the Italian and French influence that forms such an important part of the character of the country.
Taking the road out of Bastia and following the signs Cap Corse, one finds oneself on one of the most stunning coastal roads in Europe. Winding its way along the base of the mountains with medieval Genoese towers standing guard intermittently, the perfume of sage, rosemary, thyme, fennel, myrtle, lavender coming in through the car window from the famous Corse scrub, the maquis, that comes down to meet the road.
The tip of Cap Corse is a French National Park. Macinaggio is a busy yachting marina town, and the bays round the Cap headland are full of yachts. There is a coastal path along the coast leading to magnificent hidden beaches with clear calm transparent water.
