Description

Once the house of the village headman, located in an old small clove plantation which now has only two surviving trees, Old Clove House has been renovated, restored and modernised, and given a new lease of life as a holiday rental home. Located just minutes from the beaches of Thalpe and Unawatuna, the private leafy compounds of this house is a welcome respite and sanctuary from the beaches and town.The house consists of three large double bedrooms, all en-suite with hot water rain showers, and are cooled by overhead ceiling fans or air-conditioning. The main master suite has a large King-sized bed, a separate sitting/ lounging area, a large dressing area and a wonderful landscaped area with an open to sky shower. The second bedroom, the pool room, opens directly to the swimming pool, and has a King-sized bed, a walk-in dressing room and an attached bathroom with open to sky rain shower. The third bedroom, suitable for adults or a group of children, comprises a main bedroom with a Queen-sized bed, an attached smaller room with a single bed which could be used by more children or the nanny and has an attached bathroom with open to sky rain shower. Old Clove House is in a lush, verdant beautifully landscaped garden, and is very peaceful and tranquil, but just minutes from the beaches, making it a great base to explore the beaches of the South of Sri Lanka, and Galle Fort/ town. Old Clove House is perfect for a large group, be it family or a group of friends. Guests will have access to the entire house and are expected to treat the house as they would their own. There is high-speed WiFi connection, with satellite TV offering all premium channels and the latest Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III which guests can stream any music of their choice from any of their smart devices via Bluetooth and enjoy superlative sound quality. There is an in-house cook who will prepare all meals for guests as required. We take great pride in the high standard of the meals served at Old Clove House and endeavour to provide our guests with a very memorable dining experience whilst staying at Old Clove House. All food and beverages prepared and consumed at Old Clove House are at cost with no mark-ups. Old Clove House is your home for the duration of the rental and you are not expected to pay any more for food and drinks consumed than when you're at your own home.The head houseboy and two additional younger houseboys attend to housekeeping duties, guests' welfare and will also assist with guests' laundry if required. The staff is highly valued and work very hard with integrity and honesty and we only expect that they are well tipped if guests are happy with their service. Previous guests have been extremely happy with the dedicated service of this hardworking team. Pets are allowed and welcome and smokers are not discriminated against.

“Divine end to our Sri Lanakan trip”

My wife fell in love with the Old Clove House when she saw the photos. Communication with Tai and Sathish was then very easy and all our questions were met with quick replies. When we arrived at the property we were not disappointed and it is even better than the photos! We were given a tour of the home and the attention to detail is quite incredible. The owner, Tai, obviously takes great care and pride in the decoration of the home and works to keep the home maintained to an impeccable standard. We stayed with my parents and my 17 year old sister who all said that the beds were super comfortable and the best night's sleep we had in Sri Lanka. We were in the country for the hottest time of the year so the pool was a nice place to spend time in the afternoon. We asked for dinner and breakfast to be prepared for us and we were absolutely blown away. The food was the best we had in our week in the country. The grilled fish and prawn curry- actually everything- was incredible. The egg hoppers in the morning were a real treat. I could go on and on- but as you can tell we were very happy guests and would recommend this gem of a place to everyone.

Can not fault it. The house was beautiful light and specious .the renovation tastefully executed The staff, friendly and most helpful, nothing was too much for them. The location wonderful easy access to Galle and walking distance to beach. All in all superb

“A perfect place to stay”

We stayed with a large family consisting of young kids, teenagers, parents and a grandmother. When we arrived the owner, Tai, helped move all the beds around so the kids could all sleep together and really helped get us settled. Tai, was always willing to help and advise and his staff were fantastic. Food was excellent and the chef was able to produce a range of food to satisfy the most fussy of eaters! The house is beautifully renovated and has wifi, Bluetooth speakers, tv and DVD player. The beds were very comfortable and the aircon strong and cold though the ceiling fan alone was adequate. Great showers too. The garden is lovely and we played many games of football and frisbee (joined by the puppy) Nearby is a lovely beach with a fabulous beach bar serving yummy pizzas and Galle is a short tuk tuk ride away. Great location, beautiful house and lovely people.

I do apologise for the situation with the mosquitoes but there had been very heavy rains during the weeks preceding your arrival and this has exacerbated the situation of the mosquitoes. We have since remedied that with various plug-in repellents all around the house and we're delighted to say that this has worked very well, and that the current set of guests with young children are finding that there are minimal issues with mosquitoes in and around the house. I do look forward to seeing all of you again, particularly your mum, who's such a wonderfully special and lovely individual and really glad that you all had the occasion to celebrate her 80th birthday, and to see in the New Year at Old Clove House.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

If Tai (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
