The Calabria region

Calabria is the beautiful and unspoilt Southern region of Italy - one of Italy's best kept secrets. The wonderfully clear turquoise Thyrrenian sea is calm and warm, with numerous quiet beaches presenting plentiful opportunities for sunbathing and swimming. The local residents are friendly and welcoming, allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday in the sun.Plentiful bars, restaurants, pizzerias and ice cream parlours offer wonderfully fresh local cuisine at fantastic prices.Summer evenings- Open markets line the streets, with fun rides for the children. It’s a vacation of discovery from culinary delights of the local cuisine to water sports (scuba diving, dinghy) to cultural excursions which Calabria is full of, such as…Cathedral of Gerace, the Byzantine”Cattolica” of Stilo, excavations at the Greek site of Epizephyrian Locris, the world class National Museum of Reggio Calabria… but also the life of the region itself with its ancient traditions.

Here you can enjoy gourmet food, pizzas, freshly caught seafood, local wines and cheeses, delicious gelato and patisseries.A trip to the beautiful medieval town of Caulonia Superiore is well recommended, to visit the many churches especially the splendid church of St Zaccaria and experience the spectacular panoramic views. “A taste of real Italy”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2012

Thanks for letting us stay at your apartment, we had a wonderful holiday with the kids - beaches clean, sea crystal clear, food kids love with unspoilt rural villages (maybe how the more crowded resorts of the north once were!). Great location, just over an hour from Lamezia airport. Enjoyed trips to Caulonia and Gioiosa for restaurants and bars.
