Location description from owner

The Provence region

Lou Marcelou is a beautiful village house in St Croix du Verdon, a typical provencal hilltop village in a stunning location overlooking Lac St Croix in the Parc National Du Verdon.
The village is at the top of what is known as 'Green Provence' where the rolling hills of truffle woods give way to lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards in one direction and the foothills of the Alps in the other.
The region is probably best known for the Gorge du Verdon, Europes largest canyon which opens up into the northern end of Lac Sainte Croix. The gorge is over 700m deep at it deepest point and the Verdon river at the bottom flows into Lac Sainte Croix and gives it it's vivid blue/green colour.

Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon

The village is built high on a promontory overlooking the lake and is centred around it's sixteenth century church. The old village has some lovely houses and pretty public squares. There is a mini supermarket (2 min walk), together with a number of restaurants gift shops and bars.
There are only around 100 permanant residents but the numbers swell considerably in the season.

A vivid turquoise colour, the Lake is 14km long and 2km wide. It was formed in 1973 following the building of the barrage at the southern end to provide drinking water for the cities to the south. The Lac now provides a magnificent venue for a variety of activities on and around it, these include:
Sailing Club
Fishing
Swimming
Boat Hire – Pedalos, canoes, electric boat hire, Windsurfing
Riding School
Pony Club

“Amazing propery”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2016

The photos do not do the property justice, it is even better in real life. Lovely property with an amazing view. Perfect location, very close to the lake with a small supermarket and several restaurants within a short walking distance. Very quiet, charming village. Perfect for a family or a couple. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be back.
