The Pays de la Loire region

The Vendée enjoys a wonderful micro climate and has been a favourite destination for holiday makers since the early 1800's. Originally a destination principally for the French, now people from literally all over the world visit it. The huge Atlantic coastline is virtually all beaches; most of which have fine sand sloping gently to the sea. The "Côte de Lumière", as the Vendéen coast is named, has one of the sunniest climates in France, and this together with its beaches have made it a vacationers paradise. The glorious beaches and weather may have been what started people visiting the Vendée as a tourist destination, but today the widely divergent aspects of the Vendéen countryside, its history and culture are as big an attraction. Sleepy waterways winding through the Marais Poitevin or "Green Venice", fantastic and world renowned theme parks including Puy Du Fou and Futuroscope, chateaux galore, french food markets and fetes and fairs throughout high season are just a few of the many reasons to visit.

St Martin des Fontaines

The coast of the Vendée extends over 200 kilometres (120 miles) of mostly sandy beaches. Resorts include Les Sables-d'Olonne, La Tranche-sur-Mer, La Faute-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-de-Monts. Many beaches are "blue flagged" for cleanliness. Inland the landscape is dotted with traditional french villages framed with fields of sunflowers and wheat, interrupted only by huge blue skies.
Further attractions include the Ile de Re (54 km), Ile d'Oleron, Mervent Forest (15 km), Fontenay le Comte (12 km), La Rochelle, Zoodyssee (57 km), aquariums, zoos, casinos etc.
