Maison Fleurie is a recently refurbished and interior designed house within the historic walled town of St Martin de Re. It is located in a peaceful lane, moments away from the beautiful harbour and market of this historic town.

The house is unusual for St Martin in that it has a large amount of both internal and external space. The house itself has 4 bedrooms and can easily accommodate 2 families to a total of eight people. There is a large open plan kitchen- dining- living space with a table to seat 8 people comfortably. The 2 bathrooms and kitchen have recently been refurbished to a high standard. The luxury of hot/cold aircon together with a log-burning stove make the house comfortable in all seasons.

In the garden there is a heated pool, parking, an eating area, a fashionable seating area and plenty of recreational space.

It is the perfect location for exploring St. Martin and the rest of the island.

Enter in through the walled garden to a covered verandah. The front door leads to a hall way, open plan reception area to the left with bedrooms to the right.

The living space

The kitchen is new and well equipped. It is open plan internally, leading on to a lounge and dining area. There is a large dining table, enough to seat 8 with ease and a living space with comfortable sofa seating, log burning stove and Audio/Visual equipment. Wifi and cable TV are located in this room.

French doors lead from the kitchen to the patio dining area, with a table and chairs for 8 and a gas bar-b-que. This sunny area further benefits from a retractable awning to provide shade.

A further set of french doors leads from the lounge to a raised garden terrace, enclosed by hand rails and a gate. It has fashionable and comfortable seating overlooking the pool and garden area. This private area allows access to the pool and parking.

The bedroom space:

There are 4 bedrooms, which are broadly similar in size.

Bedroom 1: has 2 single beds

Bedroom 2: has 1 king size bed

Bedroom 3: has 2 single beds

Bedroom 4: is the master bedroom and has a king size bed, and access to a new ensuite bathroom with shower, basin and WC.

Family Bathroom: Bath, free standing shower, basin and WC all refurbished in 2011

Furthermore, there is another WC and a laundy closet with a washing machine.

All bedrooms have generous hanging and drawer storage space. Top quality linen and towels.

Maison Fleurie boasts extensive quiet and secluded walled gardens with mature trees, lawn and planting. There is a heated swimming pool with sun loungers. There is an exterior dining area seating 8 with optional sun and shade and a Bar-B-Que. There is enough space for children to play. There is also the rare advantage of parking. The plot size is 650 sq mtre and the size of house is 150sq mtre.

Perfect for breakfast in the morning, relaxing during the day and dinner under the stars.

The house is all on the same level. There are a few steps in and around the house and we have made sure that there are fences and gates so that these areas are safe for children.

The Poitou-Charentes region

Off the French coast by La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), Ile de Ré (pop. 12,000) is a narrow flat island 30 kilometres long. Of all the Charentais islands, Ré is undoubtedly the most popular, it is the premier French weekend and holiday destination. Attracted by the island's beauty, many artists, writers and painters bought salt-workers’ and fishermen’s houses in the 1960s, and the island started becoming fashionable, a trend which has lasted to present day. The beauty of Ile de Ré is that whilst it is undoubtably exceptionally chic it has managed to retain all its authentic charm with white lime-washed, shuttered houses and narrow streets full of flowers and cobbles.

In the north, the Fier d’Ars-en-Ré is a patchwork of mudflats and salt marshes, where every kind of wader and bird of prey is to be found. The flat-bottomed boats, the rakes of the salt-gatherers, the oyster beds and the scent of the moorland give the Ile de Ré a romanticism without equal.

The island is famous for its oysters, potatoes and salt. Salt is collected from salt farms towards the western end of the island. All the islands produce can be enjoyed in the many restaurants scattered throughout the island’s villages.

The waters around Ile de Ré are loved by all watersports enthusiasts – windsurfers, yachtsmen, rock poolers, boogie boarders and sailors. The Atlantic Ocean is much less dangerous here than in other areas of the mainland coast so bathing is recommended for all.

The island is famous for its beautiful bike rides and hiring a bike is the ideal way to see the island. Whether you are young or old, hiring a bike is the best way to see the island at your leisure – it is by far the easiest and healthiest way to travel. There are over 60 miles of cycle paths linking all the main villages and beaches. The island is exceptionally flat, so hard work is kept to a minimum! There are many hire shops so it’s easy to hire bikes for all abilities as well as child seats, tag-a-longs or chariots for the younger amongst us.

The bike routes are dedicated to cyclists in most parts and shared in the towns.

Saint Martin de Re

St. Martin is the picture-postcard-pretty capital of the island. Its 17th century citadel and ramparts were built by Vauban, architect to Louis XIV, to protect the town from repeated attacks by the Dutch and English.

The quayside has many cafes, bistros and brasseries to enjoy oysters, and assorted seafood washed down with a glass of local wine as you watch the world go by.

St. Martin as the island capital is the perfect base from which to explore. Being around the middle of the island means that you can visit all the 10 towns on the island with a bit of pedal power. Yet, there are also plenty of facilities within the town for those changeable days and those lazy days where all you want to go is go to the excellent local market and stock up, without having to go to far.

All 10 towns on the island are worth exploring, La Flotte has a superb medieval market and harbour, Ars has a great market and some great scenery. St Marie is perfect for rock pooling. The lighthouses at St Clement are worth a visit, perhaps via the salt marshes. The beaches in La Noue are of the perfect sandy variety and kids love the waves around here. The watersports centre is a short ride from St Martin (sailing, windsurfing...), and horseriding, tennis or even golfing are all readily available. Because all the natural open spaces such as:- the vineyards, forests, salt marshes, oyster farms, are preserved this means the island remains unspoilt and a delight to explore.

We believe, whatever your situation, you cannot fail to have an enjoyable holiday on Ile de Re. There really is something for everyone - it is a haven and inspiration for artists, writers, cyclists, walkers, birdwatchers, gourmets, explorers, fishermen and sailors.
