Ochre House is a unique multi-purpose vacation and studio facility located in Conception Bay, Newfoundland. Built in 1938, this former United Church has been thoughtfully renovated to include all the modern amenities while respecting the beauty and clean lines of the original architecture. With a stunning seventeen-foot ceiling, spacious studio and generous living area, our facility offers an exceptional getaway experience for work or play. An hour and 45 minutes from St. John’s and four minutes from Northern Bay Sands Park, it is a perfect place for your extended family to kick back and relax.

WORK

Ochre House provides an exceptional opportunity to work without interruption in a clean, spacious and quiet environment. The main studio area features 600 square feet (55 square metres) of new birch hardwood flooring with a 17 foot (5.2m) ceiling and no posts. For presentation there is capacity for a seated audience of 40-100 depending on performance requirements. An ideal venue for a residency, retreat or workshop – no other facility in the province offers this combination of performance space and accommodation under one roof. (PLEASE NOTE: GATHERINGS OF OVER 12 ARE SUSPENDED DURING THE PANDEMIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)

Stroll down to the beach and watch the fishing boats come and go at the busy wharf. See whales and icebergs in season off the breathtakingly rugged coast. Discover the endless web of hiking trails through woods and meadows. Build sand castles at Northern Bay Sands Park. Take a day trip up the coast to see the historic stone walls of Grates Cove. In the evening, sit around the fire and listen to the loons in the distance. Love to entertain? Bring your instruments and enjoy the beautiful acoustics. Love to cook? The large kitchen is stocked with all you need to get you started – condiments, sugar & spice, oil & vinegar, pots and pans. All you need to bring is your favourite food.

Spent last weekend at Ochre Pit Retreat Centre...everything was just wonderful! My only recommendation would be to have a flat screen smart tv in the main auditorium and downstairs!

How do damage deposits work?

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Lisa (the owner) a message.

If Lisa (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
