Pleasant Dreams was very lucky with hurricane Irma. We had some wind and a lot of rain but no damage!
Beautiful Oceanfront Home, private location with miles of secluded beach.
Pleasant Dreams, located on Pleasant Harbor in Northern Andros, is completely secluded and surrounded by island habitat, white sandy beaches and turquoise ocean waters. Walk the white sandy beaches for hours and you may never encounter another soul. Known as the eco-tourism destination of The Bahamas because of its large pristine, terrestrial and marine ecosystems, Andros is home to the third longest barrier reef in the world within a 15 minute boat ride, making it a spectacular diving, snorkeling, and fishing destination.
Pleasant Dreams is the perfect place to unwind, replenish reconnect with family and friends, and relax.
Miles of sandy beach/ocean front with crystal clear turquoise waters is perfect for children of all ages where shallow waters gradually descend deeper. Also great for the adult who likes to swim, float on chairs in the beautiful water and relax in the sun. For the adventurous adult, deeper waters and snorkeling are just a short swim out. There are several small reefs (easy to snorkel on) right off the beach where you can spear lobster, collect conch, fish or snorkel for many kinds of reef fish.
Andros is known as the 'Bonefishing capital of the world' and there is some very good bonefishing right off of the beach in front of the house. If you are interested in sport or spear fishing off a sport-fishing boat (for Mahi Mahi, Grouper, and other large game fish), guided snorkeling trips, or a Bone Fishing boat & guide, there are several local Bahamian fisherman who will be glad to set up an island adventure that you won't forget. You can be picked up off the beach in front of the house. Let me know if you are interested in these options. With notice, newly required bone fishing licenses can be acquired and at the house in advance of your arrival.
For the non-fisherman (or after fishing hours), Kayaking, walking the empty beaches, relaxing in the crystal clear waters on floating chairs, biking on the complementary bicycles provided, beach combing for shells or sipping your own Rum concoction or cool Kalik (local beer) are favorite pastimes.
Andros is an excellent place to go for bird watching. There are more than 300 species of birds found in the Bahamas. One hundred and nine species breed in the Bahamas, 169 species migrate or winter here, and 45 species are vagrants.
There are local convenience stores where you can pick up food and liquor. The Mennonite farm stand in season (Sept - April) offers a boxfull of fresh veggies. Many guests have enjoyed local home-cooked Bahamian fare prepared and brought to the house by Judy Miller - one of the caretakers.
The master bedroom has a king size bed with an ocean view and a small private bath with shower. The main house has two bedrooms, one bedroom with an ocean view and king size bed and the other with three twin beds overlooking the garden and Palm trees swaying in the breeze. The bath in the main house has a tub/shower combination. There is also an outdoor shower.
The Kitchen is modern with stainless steel tables and open shelving, gas stove, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, and a full refrigerator. The Living Room/Dining Room is pleasantly furnished with a large dining room table which seats 8-10, beach house rattan living room furniture, a TV/DVD players and a supply of movies. WIFI is available. There is also a working fireplace for those cool January evenings.
Andros is known as an 'Outer or Family Island' which requires some explanation. No one (that I know of) takes credit cards, and travelers checks can be a problem (not everyone takes them or they charge you extra to use them). Cash is the best thing to bring for money. There is an ATM on the island that you can access if you need more cash; it is located a couple of miles from the house.
It is great fun to Kayak out to Money Cay to look for sand dollars and shells, fish, swim, snorkel or relax in the hammock overlooking turquoise clear waters, and ocean breezes.
Andros, is a very safe island, with wonderful friendly residents. Several small family restaurants tserving local fare have cropped up since the storm. You can go to Red Bays to shop for the local baskets and woodcarvings created by the people of the island or to Fresh Creek, where you'll find the Androsia Batik Factory which makes beautiful Batik clothing using intricate carved Sea Sponges from the island. Explore the limestone caves and amazing Blue Holes, go bird, sea turtle, hermit crab watching, and you can even go wild boar hunting. (ask about this option before arriving). But mostly, Andros is known for it's Bonefishing, Snorkeling, Diving, Shelling, Fishing,Relaxation and Beautiful Beaches.
