From the owner

Take a trip back in time (with some modern conveniences)

This house was built in the early 1900's and was home to the hospitals matron for a time. It is perfect for a family getaway as its situated in the heart of Murtoa.

This beautiful town has always been a haven for wildlife and has one of the most attractive lakes in the Wimmera. A main feature within the town of Murtoa is the impressive 1890s avenues of sugar gum trees around most of the lake. There is a playground, BBQs, Rotunda and large lawned areas within walking distance of the home, Rabl park immediately to the North of Lake Marma as well as a series of waterways and ponds with attractive treed surrounds. This town also incorporates a Skate Park, playground, the 1896 Railway's walking bridge and large grassed areas. Both Lakes are great fishing and recreational areas, with a boat ramp, picnic areas, abundant birdlife and pleasant, formed walking tracks surrounding them.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

The railway hotel has good food as does the Lazy Lizard cafe.

Interesting places to visit if you like history include The stick shed, The water tower museum, the railway station. These are all in Murtoa.

Approximately 40 minute drive to Warracknabeal has a The Lions Club Flora and Fauna Park playground with BBQ facilities and is surrounded by animal enclosures with peacocks, emu's, Kangaroo’s, guinea pigs, a variety of different birds etc (it is behind The Creekside Hotel)

A 20 minute drive to Minyip and you can see an old petrol station/mechanics (Now a cafe) that was used in the filming of a TV series called The flying doctors back in the 80's.

Across the road from this is the pub that was also used for filming the flying doctors and most recently (2020) was used in the film "The Dry"

(some of the crew from the "The Dry" stayed at the crooked cottage while they were filming in the area)

A 10 minute drive will get you to Rupanyup where there is the Woods farming and heritage museum.

There is silo art in nearly all of the surrounding towns including Murtoa.

If you want to drive further, there are places like Halls Gap, Ararat, Ballarat etc that all have interesting places to visit. Just Google them to see what they offer.

There is a public swimming pool on the edge of the lake in Murtoa that is open during the warmer months.

Sorry, No Pets Allowed.

Due to the soft furnishings and carpets in the cottage, unfortunately this property is unsuitable to accommodate your furry friends.
