The Valencian Country region

The World Health Organsiation has voted the Costa Blanca region one of the healthiest places in the world, owing to its fantastic climate, relaxed pace of life and good food. The landscape is also very beautiful, with a mix of impressive mountains and fine sandy beaches, populated by traditional villages and fishing ports, some with historical landmarks such as old forts and harbours. Nearby Valencia is a very fashionable city, playing host to the Americas Cup in 2007, so the region offers the rare combination of seclusion and metropolitan excitement, depending on mood and taste.

Moraira

Moraira town is a small and quiet village on the east cost of Alicante-Spain, Costa-Blanca, famed for being a top-class tourist destination and attracting a nice mix of international guests, and a degree of calm and a sophistication found lacking in some other popular Spanish resorts.

This is the fith year the newspaper “EL PAIS” has voted Moraira to be the cleanest and prettiest town in the whole Costa Blanca region. The sea is absolutely blue and clear and the area has a lovely selection of coastal walks for holidaymakers to enjoy, and the town has a sandy beach and picturesque marina.

The local amenities are good, and there is a range of restaurants, shops and bars just 5 minutes walk from the villa. There are some incredibly friendly Tapas Bars and a full range of food from English to Italian and of course delicious freshly caught fish. Every Friday there is a street market where you can buy local produce. There are many activities to take part in including SCUBA, horse riding and some truly marvellous walks.

Like every Spanish town Moraira hosts its own fiestas. There are two each year and both are well worth a visit! The first Monday after Easter Monday marks the beginning of San Vincente Ferrer. The town celebrates for ten days and be sure not to miss out on the giant paella that is served up!

The Moors and Christians fiesta (the second week in June) is a truly unique experience! Celebrating the history of the Spanish occupation the townspeople split into two groups, the Moors and the Christians, and have mock battles complete with costumes! It really is a theatrical occasion not to be missed, culminating on the final day with a procession and spectacular fireworks display!

“Superb villa and a lovely town”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2013

Arriving at Alicante airport from Canada, we quickly organised our car rental and set out on our way to our destination of Moraira. With simple but extremly accurate directions from the Maria, we soon found ourselves there, at last, our villa haven for our two week holiday. First impressions were that we felt immediatly comfortable in this very well equiped beautifully furnished villa. It has a wonderfully home from home feel with a delightful rustic Spanish charm, much to the owners thoughtful personal touches that are a theme throughout the whole villa. Much of our week was spent lazing around the fabulous pool, enjoying meals, with produce bought from the assortment of local shops. Both fish and meat were really fresh with a large selection to choose from, so something different each day. Our favourite memory of this charming and unexpected find was evenings spent watching the sun set with a glass of the local wine. We loved Moraira town, with its large choice of restaurant bars, cafes and shops. There was so much choice, you could have Cocktalis on the Marinas plush terraces or any food of your choice with budgets to suit all. We explored the mountains and villages and along the coast, where there are many little coves to discover. We both had a wonderfully restful stay in Villa Maria and will return, perhaps with family as I think our daughter will love it too.
