After 7 years of searching for the perfect house we found it in April 2012. After extensive renovation our gîte opened for business in August 2013. Le Mas de Maupas is 1.8 km west from the town of Malaucène . Ideally situated for cyclists wanting to climb Mont Ventoux or for tourists wishing to savour the delights of the wine of the Côte de Rhone valley. The ski slopes on Mont Ventoux are 20 minutes by car and most years there is snow for about 4 weeks. The spacious gîte is the west wing of the farm house which has been completely renovated. 3 twin rooms, one ensuite (italian walk in shower, basin & WC), further shower room with WC, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, cooker with ceramic hob, sitting room with French windows out into the garden. Bed linen and towels included. There is a garage/workshop where cycles can be stored. The house is situated in 3.5 hectares (5 acres) of land which guests are welcome to roam and pick from the multitude of fruit when in season. The gîte is not overlooked, apart from a few inquisitive birds, so your space is completely private. There are no near houses so it is quiet and secluded but only a 12 minute walk to Malaucène. Wifi is free. French and English satellite TV. The swimming pool, shared with the owners, is 10m x 4m with wonderful views of Mont Ventoux. There is garaging for cycles and cars if necessary. It is a wonderful environment for your holiday. One small downside, the local tourist tax (Taxe de Sejour) is not included in the rental price and will need to be paid before departure. It amounts to 0.70€ per adult per night, children under 18 are excempt. Sorry for this but it does mount up!

I am always on site to help with anything guests will need and if I happen to be away from the house there is a Guardien who can assist. I appreciate guests value their privacy but I can advise on directions and local amenities and attractions if required. There is a small dog, Tommy, who also resides here. You may be aware of this if you have read any of the reviews! He is very friendly with humans of all shapes and sizes but if you do not want to interact with him he will quickly get the message and leave you alone.

“Perfect Provence”

Farmhouse Provence: cool tiles under your feet, fruit trees in the garden, a recently completed swimming pool, and with all the comfort of a fully-equipped modern kitchen and two stylish bathrooms. As of June 2014 a little landscape gardening is yet to be completed around the pool, but this is a "certain win" for the 2014-2015 visitor, for the prices generously acknowledge the on-going improvements, and even during our visit, the new sun-loungers were arriving. At the same time you can pick your own cherries and Mirabelle plums from the huge garden, and if anyone was going to invade your privacy they would need a telescope! Provence being quite a long way, it's good to know that the owner, Annie, is English, and she lives on-site and is ready to receive calls about travel difficulties and delays and keys and so on. We asked about the usual damage deposit that owners normally require, but being on site Annie is happy to accept a handshake from most visitors, and this ends the need to carry wads of cash or cheque books. The gite is based on twin rooms, rather than doubles, for maximum flexibility. Annie also knows the locals... We pranged our rental vehicle and needed a new tail light. Annie sent us to the right local garage who acquired the required part within 48hrs and fitted it in 10 minutes, charging nothing for labour. Minimal interruption to our holiday. She also knows the local degustations…one of which is a family concern. Don’t miss. Vaison la Romaine, a few miles up the road, offers arguably the best Roman town ruins in Provence, perhaps in France, and the giant Pont du Gard aqueduct is an easy day-out excursion. Vaison also offers a market every Tuesday which is truly huge and truly mouth-watering. Le Mas de Maupas gite is about 1,000m west of Malaucene, a delightful village offering a variety of useful local stores, one or two discreet gift shops, a very good boulangerie, a well-stocked village supermarket, two or three promising bistros, and a modest street market every Wednesday, offering particularly good fresh fruit and veg. Le Mas de Maupas is, perhaps above all, a perfect base for cyclists. A training run through the Dentelles, "the Teeth", is an interesting warm-up. Then Mont Ventoux itself…which is visible from the front door of the gite. The top is 23km away by the direct Malaucene route, but the Tour de France route starts at Bedoin, about 20mins drive south. We drove our bikes the ten miles to Bedoin, where day-long parking is very easy and free, then we climbed the 4,400ft (21kms) Tour de France route up to the summit. That sort of climb was enough for us, but if you can manage the extra ten miles and 500ft involved in cycling from the Le Mas de Maupas to the Tour de France start point at Bedoin (and therefore you don't have a vehicle to take home later), you can coast the NW road down from the summit and virtually free-wheel back to the front door of your own gite. Back at base, after an exhausting day, there is the pool, walk-in showers, a barbecue, and quiet... It’s perfect Provence.

We were very pleased we booked this gite, it's set in a excellent location with lovely garden and newly built pool. It has everything a family could need, lots of space, large well equipped kitchen etc...and wifi!!! The owner Annie was very welcoming and helpful to us and we felt at home straight away. This gite is in an excellent location for exploring the area and many cycling routes. We were able to store our bikes safely and securely too at the gite. Only 5 mins, if that from shops, cafes and local Malacene market. Can't wait to return next year! Thanks again Annie and Of course not to forget Tommy! The Tilley family

a marvellous situation at the base, and with iconic views, of Mt Ventoux; delightful local town, Rhone vineyards (Gigondas, Ch-neuf-du-Pape) on the doorstep, Roman remains; superb micro-environment within 10 miles/ privileged to stay before the official opening so property not fully completed (e.g. swimming pool yet to be built); therefore unable to opine on the final package but cannot recommend too highly, charming welcome (served fine breakfast in the owner's "kitchen"); GO GO GO
