The original "Cozy Cottage" build in 1920 was purchased by the Rev. George C. Starr in 1957 and currently owned by his son. On the grounds of Lake Junaluska Conference Center but far enough away to avoid the congestion - an easy 10 minute walk to all activities. The home is centered on three lots, providing wooded views in three directions. A circular drive gives easy access and off street parking for at least three cars.
A recent renovation/addition of kitchen and second bath provides modern comfort and convenience while preserving the character and charm of the cottage. Appropriately furnished with antiques, rugs and original art work. Ceiling fans in each room and one window air conditioner keeps it cool during the hottest summer days and gas heat is convenient for cool mountain evenings. Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Fire Extinquisher assure safety. Internet/wifi, telephone and cable provided. Included in rental are linens and towels, paper towel, toilet paper, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, hand soap and trash bags.
The cook's kitchen has a 5 burner gas cooktop with overhead exhaust, new Bosch dishwasher, microwave, stainless steel refrigerator with freezer, built in oven, double stainless sink with disposal, free standing chop block. Equipped with coffee pot, coffee grinder, toaster, crock pot, small, medium and large food processors, hand mixer, chef knifes and paring knifes, several sets of china, glasses, wine glasses, various size pots, iron frying pans and dutch oven, a good selection of spices -- too many amenities to list. Everything you would need to prepare a gourmet meal. Cloth napkins, placemats, dish towels and dish cloths are provided.
The Living Room is comfortably furnished with a leather sofa and chairs for 6 and a large coffee table. The stone fireplace is equiped with gas logs. A 32' flat screen TV with cable, VCR, DVD are concealed in the armoire; also provided is a combination radio/CD/record player. An antique Kilim rug over hardwood floors. Large windows look out to wooded areas and the front door opens to the screened porch which is furnished with vintage wicker, old hickory chairs and small table with 2 chairs.
Separate large Dining Room with table which seats 6-8 is centered on an oriental rug, large sideboard with lamps, antique Hoosier cabinet, and china cabinet. The window air conditioner is located in the dining room. Lots of windows which make it bright and cheerful. Permanently installed propane heater with an automatic thermostat keeps it toasty when needed. One of two TV's is located in the dining room.
Perfect house for two couples or a family as the two bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the house. The Master Bedroom is furnished with an antique brass and iron double bed with decorative valance above, swing arm reading lamps, armoire, chest of drawers, oriental rug. A separate dressing alcove with dressing table, mirror and chair connect the bedroom and Master Bath, which has a shower. A tankless water heater supplies the house with continuous hot water. The bath has a ceiling heater and exhaust fan as well as a washer and dryer. The Second Bedroom has two twin beds, night stand, chest of drawers, chair and a dhurrie rug. Both bedrooms have a comfortable mattress, and down comforters.
The Guest Bath is entered from a hall and through a small alcove which has a bookcase and cabinet. A pocket door separating this area from the bathroom. The bath has the original claw foot tub and shower combo, ceiling exhaust and heat.
