Completed in mid 2012 gaining a National Construction Association award, using antique flooring, doors and windows, the villa is a mix of traditional charm and modern comforts, laid out to maximise the glorious views across the lake. The villa was designed to be naturally ventilated, benefiting from a 35-50ft elevation over the lake and its cooling breeze.

Entering the property you have fantastic views across the 50ft infinity swimming pool to the lake and the extensive garden which surrounds the villa. The main living room (40ft x 20ft) has a comfortable sitting area with 3 large daybeds, cool polished cement flooring and a grand staircase going up to the first floor. The fully equipped kitchen with a large 5 ring oven and 2 large fridges is accessed through an archway while the other end of the sitting room leads you to an air-conditioned cinema room with an LED HD projector which provides a 120inch screen, extensive hard drive film (1000+) library and surround sound system with a DVD player. There is also a range of games and plenty of reading material. 4G WiFi is also included.

Panel doors open out from the kitchen and sitting room onto the 65ft veranda which forms the main outdoor dining room and living area. The dining table comfortably seats 10 and the seating area has plenty of loungers, chairs and a large coffee table, all overlooking the 50ft x 22ft infinity pool. All outdoor floor surfaces (including the inviting pale green slate of the pool) have been chosen for comfort and are non-slip under your bare feet.

All four bedrooms have views of the lake, large ensuite walk in shower rooms, lockable wardrobes and both ceiling and floorstanding fans. Two are located upstairs, offering a panorama of the whole lake. The master bedroom (25ft x 20ft) has wooden flooring re-laid from two antique houses, a 4 poster superking (6ft wide) bed and a wall safe, while bedroom two (16ft x 13ft) has a polished cement floor and two large single (44 and 46 inch wide) 4 poster beds. They share a vast balcony with built in seating to either end and a wooden balconied central area with wooden loungers which forms the perfect spot to relax and take in your beautiful surroundings.

The third bedroom (16ft x 13ft) has its own veranda and sits alongside the pool. It has a superking size 4 poster bed.

The fourth bedroom (16ft x 13ft) is situated garden side, offering a particularly private location closer to the lake and has a private veranda and seating, with superking size four poster bed.

Wheelchair access is possible to the ground floor. Bed 3, Lounge, Kitchen, Cinema room, Dining area and Veranda are on a single level. All doors are doubles and the carport is linked to main house by a flat path.

The garden attracts a variety of colourful birds from kingfishers to a pair of peacocks which roost in one of the many trees. Monkeys and monitor lizards are regular visitors and a special attraction is the dusk fly-past of hundreds of fruit bats, as they circle the lake on their nightly flight to the inland jungle to feed. On a clear night the lack of light pollution makes stargazing a must.

Chill by the lake and call out to the local fishermen for their catch of prawns, fish and crab and have Sonali prepare them for you. Walk down the cinnamon track and along the road to the long, sandy beach (around 20-25 minutes), stopping to chat with the local schoolchildren. If you can tear yourself away from the villa, the World Heritage site Galle fort is about a 20 minute drive away and makes an enjoyable day out. Whale watching, diving & snorkelling, temples, wildlife safaris, beaches, shopping and restaurants are all easily accessible and transport will be arranged on request.

Southern Province region

Ideal for those wanting a relaxing getaway. The villa's tranquil setting can be enjoyed by itself or as a balance to the nearby beaches, sites of Galle and other local activates. Set in a 1.5 acre plot, at the end of a finger of land extending into Koggala lake and accessed via a 200m track through cinnamon plantations, it offers the chance to escape the noise of traffic, surf and crowds and simply unwind by one of the best lake views on the Island. It is also a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers, with over 50 species being recorded by one recent group of guests.

Koggala

The area provides plenty to do, whatever the length of your stay. Take a boat trip on the lake, or visit the numerous beaches, where you can enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, watersports, etc. Within 10- 40 minutes from the villa you can go whalewatching, do yoga, a canoe or cycling tour, visit Galle Fort, Koggala Lake, spice gardens, temples, tea plantation, turtle hatchery, get close up with elephants, etc. Further afield are the national parks at Yala, Udawalawe, Sinharaja and many more, but if all that sounds too strenuous, just curl up in a hammock with a book, have a massage or watch the wildlife from the balcony. .

“CHILL OUT IN STYLE”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2016

There were eight of us and we stayed for 1 week in the villa. Prior to the villa we had done a week's tour of Sri Lanka with Trailfinders and were ready for a rest but still keen to explore Sri Lanka more. However, once we had seen the villa and experienced the hospitality we lost our desire to move. 2 of us never left the villa grounds, 6 of us went for a 2 hour boat trip around the lagoon and 4 of us also went to Galle for a morning in a tut tut. The rest of the time we just enjoyed relaxing in the various parts of the villa. There was plenty of room to spread out and to be alone if required but also areas large enough for us all to be together. The pool was well used, being clean, warm and inviting. After dinner we all mainly retired to the media room for a film to avoid the insects and to cool off in the air conditioning. We all enjoyed seeing the wildlife, especially birds, but did not feel the need to swim at the beach or in the lagoon. The catering was wonderful thanks to Sonali and Lasantha. We elected for them to provide breakfast and dinner every day. We asked for Sri Lankan cuisine which was not too hot and Sonali pitched it perfectly. Each day was different but breakfast always included fruit and toast as well as Sri Lankan items such as egg hoppas and sticky rice. Dinner always consisted of about 6 different dishes and usually a light dessert. We even watched her cook and participated in the preparation. During the day we raided the fridge for left overs or just ate bananas. The cost of all the food and drink worked out at about £125 per couple! We particularly liked the tranquillity, beauty and of course the food. As well as that it was great to be able to learn from Sonali & other staff about life in Sri Lanka. If we had to be picky all I could say is that we did struggle with the media room in that the sound and vision were not that good but we didn't go on holiday to watch films! also the wifi was a bit unreliable.

Thank you for the lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed the villa so much and know that Sonali & Lasantha enjoyed hosting you as well. With regard to the sound & vision in the media room, we know that it's not great. We wanted somewhere that the whole group could get together to watch a movie, but the range of options was limited at the time. The current soundbar is an upgrade from our previous surround system, but we are now considering getting a big screen TV (which wasn't an affordable option until recently). The wifi is 4G and the best available in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, there are times when the signal is disrupted by atmospheric conditions, especially late afternoon/ early evening and I am afraid there is little we can do about that. We hope that these issues did not spoil your enjoyment of the villa and we hope to see you again another time. All the best Lesley & Ken

“Beautiful villa in a stunning location”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2016

We had a wonderful week at Lakeview Villa over new year. We were a family group with young children and grandparents, and the villa was fantastic for all of us. Stunning location, with a beautifully serene view across the lake. We had initially tried to book a villa on the coast but, in hindsight, we were truly thankful we stayed at Lakeview. The coastal road is busy day and night and we loved the wonderfully calm setting of this villa. It is just a 5 minute tuk tuk drive to the beach, so you really don't miss out on the coastal action. The owners, Lesley & Ken, have done a fantastic job: The villa is kept in immaculate condition, with 4 huge bedrooms and en suites. Each bedroom enjoys its own unique view across the lake. Lesley was also extremely helpful to us before arrival, helping to sort out airport transfers and stocking up on food/drink that we asked for. One of the biggest pluses about this villa is Sonali, the manager and cook, and her husband Lasanta. They could not have been more helpful; looking after us throughout and calling tuk tuks whenever we asked. The food, most of all, was unbelievable. We do not think you could have a better meal outside. The gardener was wonderful with our two young boys, shinning up the trees to gather coconuts and pointing out the assortment of wildlife around the grounds. We had read that the mosquitos were troublesome but we really didn't find this a problem. Each bed has a large mosquito net, which keeps them at bay overnight, and even at dawn or dusk, we saw very few mosquitos. We would come back again, any time!

“A VERY SPECIAL PLACE”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2015

It was our second stay at the “Lakeview Villa” on Koggala Lake within this year – and this visit was as wonderful as the first one (if not better). The owners of the villa, Ken and Lesley, are great people, very smart, pleasant to communicate with – and very attentive to every detail, so booking their villa is always easy and staying there is always very relaxing, ‘cause all of your wishes are predicted and all your needs are taken care of. The villa itself is charming and extremely comfortable, with lots of rooms and corners to unwind and enjoy your vacation. It’s located by one of the most beautiful and picturesque lakes of Sri Lanka – by Koggala Lake, where you can sail (it’s really big!), or fish, or just enjoy its amazing sunrises and sunsets from the villa’s balcony or veranda. The garden there is large and lush, yet very well-maintained, with numerous species of flowers and trees, dozens of colorful birds, dragonflies, butterflies, cute monitor lizards and even with a family of big black monkeys, that comes there twice a day to taste if mangos and papayas are ripe (they don’t come close to the house though). The infinity pool is clean, warm and big enough to do your morning swim or even to play pool volleyball. There is a variety of table games, books and movies to keep you occupied in a free evening or in a rainy day, if you are not a nature lover and prefer some particular entertainments to a peaceful hour in a hammock or on a sunbed outside. There is a kitchen equipped with everything you need if you’ll feel like cooking – however, I can bet none of the villa’s visitors really cooked for themselves there, ‘cause the dishes of the local chef Sonali (a bright young lady who speaks perfect English and manages to keep the huge house clean and well-organized together with inventing more and more delicacies for the owners and guests of the villa) will make you an addict, no matter which cuisine do you prefer. The food at the “Lakeview Villa” will become a special and very important part of your vacation, and I seriously doubt that you can try anything better anywhere else in Sri Lanka (talking from the experience of 10 trips to this island). All the staff of the villa (Sonali with her husband Lasantha, the gardener and the night watchman) will do their best to make your stay as easy and careless as possible, while the breathtaking views, sounds and colors of the “Lakeview” will become a part of your most precious Sri Lankan memories. We visited the “Lakeview Villa” twice – and we are counting days to come back there again.

“A piece of paradise”

Reviewed 6 May 2015

We stayed at Lake View Villa with our young daughter at the end of a 10 day sight seeing tour of Sri Lanka. After our rather hectic itinerary it was the perfect place to relax. The setting is beautiful with views of the lake and surrounding garden. The property is finished to a high specification. We only used two of the four bedrooms but the layout is such that it would suit an extended family as two bedrooms are accessed from the pool area/garden and two are in the main house. The booking process was smooth and Lesley/Ken responded very promptly to all our queries and provided information sheets about the property and surrounding areas as well as detailed driving instructions. We appreciated Lesley meeting us at the beginning and the end of our stay. The staff at the house really made our holiday special and were easily available but never intrusive. Sonali and Lasantha looked after us so well and we loved Sonali's Sri Lanka cooking as well as her chocolate brownies! The cost of the meals was very reasonable compared with restaurant prices. Our daughter was also well catered for with a less spicy version of the food we ate. Raja, the gardener, showed us lots of wildlife and provided us with coconuts. The sunsets over the lake and watching the bats at dusk were highlights. We only ventured out a few times - to Galle, a turtle hatchery and to see the temple during the poya festival but there is plenty to see in the area if you wished to be more active. The house is designed to be cooled by the lake side breezes and this coupled with ceiling fans is effective. However there is AC in the cinema room if needed. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lake View Villa and feel it excels on the personalised service available. We hope to return.

“Relax in style surrounded by nature”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2015

My family and I (four adults and three kids ages 9,7,3.5) stayed at the beautiful Lakeview Villa along with my in-laws over our spring break holiday. This was our first trip to Sri Lanaka and having heard many glowing reviews of the country, the people, and the food we really looking forward to our trip. The travel from the airport was easy and comfortable. The owners of the villa had arranged for our transportation and Prageeth Yasantha was very professional and personable. He met us upon arrival and introduced us to our driver who then took us to the villa, which ended up being about a 2 hour trip. (It can take longer if the traffic is bad but with the newly built highway - we had no problems). The first big adventure was finding the villa which was tucked back amongst the trees and cinnamon plantation. The description was exactly how it was - hardly any neighbors, lots of nature surrounding the villa and away from the hustle and bustle of Galle. At the villa we were greeted by Sonali and Lasantha, two of the nicest people you will ever have the honor of meeting. My children immediately took to them - they were great with the kids and also with us. Sonali cooked amazing dinners and breakfasts allowing us to try various local dishes but not forgetting that the kids and the grandparents might not want things overly spicy. My daughter had fun learning how to cook a few of the dishes and even got to pick out a desert one night and took the lead in making it with Sonali. (We did bring along food for snacks and the a few things we new the kids would eat for lunches)The kitchen is well designed, a good size, easy to use and has everything you need in it - they kids enjoyed hanging out there and the stools at the island were a perfect early breakfast spot. We liked to kick around the small football we brought along in the large yard and swinging on the swings and exploring the large, perfectly landscaped but natural surroundings. The Gardener was very helpful and informative. He showed us many plants and animals that live on the property - monitor lizards, monkeys, peacocks, fresh water jelly fish, prawns, large insects and of course the bats that we saw every night. It was from Raja, the gardener, that we learned most of our Sinhalese. The house was very well kept with a spacious bathroom in every room. We all loved the openness of the villa and the many areas to sit back and enjoy the beautiful view from the upstairs or chill out in the hammock by the pool. My in-laws loved having their own space below the pool and even though they were closer to the garden they did not have any issues with too many insects or other critters. We were in the pool every day - the pool was perfect for all the kids - with a shallow end my 3 year old could stand in and the deeper ends for the big kids to jump into. The air conditioned media room was great for afternoon cool down and movie watching and with all the movies they had the only issue was choosing what to watch. There were a few games and even some badminton rackets that we enjoyed using. At first my husband was concerned about the no air conditioning but there were nights where it was actually cool .. (we live in Singapore and are use to the heat though we use air con while at home). The fans above the beds helped immensely and we always left our windows and doors open for the breeze. We had no real issues with mosquitoes - partly because we wore repellant, partly because we were eating local foods, but I think mainly because of all the wildlife - by the lake there are so many natural predators that there were never too many mosquitoes. Our driver from the airport, Prageeth, came by the villa to help us plan a few outings. With the short amount of time we decided on Whale Watching. Prageeth arranged for the whole trip and transportation to Mirissa. Even with the early wake up and the choppy seas, we all enjoyed seeing the dolphins, huge sea turtle and blue whales! The other trip we took was to Galle. Although it was fun taking the tuk tuks into town and stopping at the small but interesting turtle hatchery, Galle was busy and hot. We were able to see and walk around a bit of the fort but after two hours they kids were ready to go home. Luckily our Tuck Tuck driver new a place to go for a bit of souvenir shopping - as we really could not stay in Galle for long to look around. The two days we did outings away from the villa all the kids could do was wish they were back at the villa in the pool or hanging out in the house. Thanks to all the people we have mentioned and to the owners of the villa who were very easy to work with and provided us with tons of information on the area and the villa, we had a perfect vacation. We were all sad to leave and hope to return again someday soon. My only concern in reviewing this place is that it will become too popular and perhaps more difficult to book in the future.

This has to be the best place to relax and repair wear and tear. Perfectly situated overlooking the lake surrounded by a cinnamon plantation, spacious and comfortable - this is a great spot to unwind watching wildlife and drifting round the pool. If you want to do more we recommend the beach at Unawatuna with bars and seafood curries. The fish market is spectacular - we found lobster secreted away which was perfectly prepared for us. This place has to one of the best in the area.

“Magical place. Flawless service. A joy from minute one.”

The only reason I hesitated to write this review was because we do not want too many people knowing about Lakeview Villa! The more people that know the harder it will be to book because once you have been once you are going to want to return. The house is amazing with unbeatable views. The people who work their could not be more helpful. I cannot emphasise enough how good the food was. It is an incredibly peaceful place to stay - unaffected (so far) by lots of development so you feel the privilege and luxury of privacy but close enough (25 mins) to Galle or good beaches (some much closer than that) if you want to get out. We loved it and hope you do too.

“A Lovely Retreat”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2014

Lakeview is a secluded and quiet getaway from everything. With a lovely pool and stunning view, it affords guest a private location whilst being a 20 minute drive from beaches and restaurants. The villa chef is excellent and cooks wonderful Sri Lankan dishes and was as baking various treats. The garden is regularly visited by monkeys, monitor lizards and mongeese as well as a variety of birds. The villa is comfortable without being pretentious and fussy. Housekeeping is basic, rooms are only cleaned every few days but the kitchen (along with shopping and cooking) is fully taken care of by the staff. We loved our stay and relished the quiet privacy.
