The resort is lovely, with loads of facilities, great staff and a friendly atmosphere. The restaurant, water sports, beach bar, massage treatments, gym, yoga sessions, football nets and beach volleyball area add something special to the resort. All are well presented, along with the pools, grounds and sandy beach front, which includes a manmade breakwater that significantly reduces the current that runs around the bay. Early morning swims in the sea were a delight. The area surrounding the resort is rural. We grew fond of seeing the shepherd and his sheep each morning. Locally we visited the Vouni ruins, a palace built on a hill top so that the owners could spy on the town below. A nice drive into the hills and attractive views from the hilltop. Guzelyurt, the nearest town to the resort has a good supermarket (Lemar) and some shops, but is not a tourist town. The local village shop has all the basics you need. We recommend a visit to Kyrenia, which has a harbour, castle, shops and restaurants. Lovely, lovely town, 1hr drive. Upon a whim we went to a sandy bay near the village of Akdeniz. It’s one of the bays that the turtles use. An hour’s drive, with a rough gravel/sand track towards the end, means that you will not be crowded when you you get there. No facilities either (an old gun emplacement and barrack house), but we had the beach to ourselves for the afternoon. Idyllic. Some plastic waste towards the back of the beach (a sign of the times unfortunately), but the waterline and bay were lovely, fine sand. On the way to the beach, just outside Akdeniz, we followed a sign to the tombs of the Kings (Koyu Kral Mezarligi). Don’t bother. A fenced off area around some trees, with no info. Bizarre. The ruins of Salamis (a couple hour’s drive, near Famagusta) were well worth the visit. We also went to the monetary of St Barnabas while we were there. And there’s a fantastic beach front with a jetty right by the Salamis ruins. Great day out. Good food at the restaurant just behind the beach front too. Note that if you want drinks/snacks at the cafe within the Salamis ruins site, they prefer Euros rather than Lira. A trip to the old town of Nicosia, the Buyuk Han (inn for the traders), the Selimiye mosque and the market area rounded off our tourist trips out. One thing to note while you’re travellng around is that there are quite a few army barracks and areas designated for the military. It’s not an issue, but it’s something we commented on an number of times during our visit. On the topic of drinking and eating, the meals at the resort restaurant (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are all with trying. Next door to the resort the Lavidya(?) restaurant is lovely too. A number of other restaurants in the area that are marked on Google maps were closed down, so if you set out for a meal, be prepared to look around. The coast by Lefke has a number of places to eat, but we weren’t impressed. The Aspava Beach restaurant was recommended to us. The location and swimming facilities were good, but they didn’t have many of the fish dishes available, and that’s what we’d gone for. The apartment is spacious and well laid out. We have given the owner feedback as to some things we feel could be improved, and we would have liked a more thorough response from the resort management team for things like light bulbs and a clothes horse that needed replacing. However, those niggles aside, we had an enjoyable stay.
