The Istria region
The dreamlike nature, almost mythical landscapes and gorgeous mediaeval towns of central Istria will awake within you the primeval and deep, true pleasure! Central Istria is one of the rare Mediterranean regions adorned with the quality of unspoiled natural landscapes and rich heritage. Numerous coves and hillocks connect and divide many magic-like settlements, creating almost unreal scenery.
Any of the main roads from the eastern, western or southern Istrian coast will take you to Pazin. It is the administrative headquarters of the Istrian County, placed at the very center of the Istrian peninsula. The Pazin fortification Kaštel is elevated above the Pazincica River, a spectacular pit, a natural phenomenon placed under special protection. From this fortification, Pazin County - feud of the Habsburgs - used to be governed. This is, no doubt, the most beautiful example of the evolution of karst hydrography. French writer Jules Verne has even placed part of the action of his novel “Mathias Sandorf” here. Today Kaptel serves as a home for the Ethnographic Museum of Istria and the Pazin City Museum.
If you move from Pazin to the north, in only twenty minute’s time, you will end up in lovely Motovun, most important inhabited place of these parts since prehistory. This picturesque mediaeval town placed on a hill, has a rich cultural and historical heritage. It dominates over the valley of the Mirna River and the famous Motovun wood, a habitat of the best truffle in the world.
Keep moving upstream towards Buzet, a town placed on a hill in the middle of the fruitful valley of the Mirna River. Inhabited already in prehistory, it was fortified during the Roman rule. The central square with the parochial church of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Assumption, is the very core of the old town. While here, be sure not to miss a visit to the County Museum of Buzet and its surroundings. In the year of 1999, Buzet was publicly proclaimed the town of truffle, unique fruit of this mystical land.
You should also visit Roc, today an exceptionally active cultural center, as well as Hum - the smallest town in the world. Between these two small towns there is a unique memorial complex dedicated to the old Croatian Glagolitic alphabet and culture. Both of these towns are placed under protection as exceptionally significant cultural monuments. In only a few hours, one of many hiking trails will take you from the picturesque mediaeval architecture over the afforested slopes of the Cicarija plateau to the largest Istrian mountain and park of nature, Ucka (1396m). It is one of the last European localities where a patient eye of a bird lover will be rewarded with impressive contours of the griffon vulture or the golden eagle.
If you move from Pazin towards the south, you will find yourself in Žminj, a small town where old Istrian houses and holdings now serve for agritourism. Here you can get accommodation and enjoy the homemade Istrian cooking and the unspoiled nature.
If you keep moving further to the south, you will come to Svetvincenat, the art center of southern Istria. It is placed on the karst plateau and surrounded by woods, pasture grounds and vineyards. Kaštel, the churches and the beautiful Renaissance square form a perfect scenography for supreme art events. Your thirst for cultural atmosphere will thus be fulfilled, bringing closure to this remarkable evening in your journey through the fairytale land.
Grožnjan, a small Istrian town of great cultural significance not only in Croatia but also internationally, lives its summer months very intensely. Every year at the beginning of May, the little streets and squares of Grožnjan metamorphose and turn into a truly artistic beehive: it opens its summer music academies for young people, its artistic, dance and drama workshops and its peace activism workshops under the leadership of well-known experts and teachers and famous names from music, art and drama.
During those few summer months Grožnjan lives and breathes art and the labyrinth of its little streets become one great stage on which are constantly interchanging the sounds of jazz and classical music, guitar and piano, violin and cello, drum and vibraphone...

"HIGH-TECH VILLA POROPATI"
Danke, Rajko! Wir kommen wieder!

"A tennis weekend with a difference!"
A group of 12 of us used the Villa for a tennis weekend, combining tennis coaching and a chance to sample local cuisine (amazingly good value!!) and do a little sight seeing as well. This part of Croatia is incredibly beautiful and unspoiled. The Villa is set in green fields and a quiet village, you would definitely need a car to get around. Attractively renovated, it is very well equipped with a modern kitchen, very comfortable double bedrooms with en-suites, swimming pool and fire pit! Dragan, our host made the trip completely hassle free and relaxing.

"Beautiful Villa in idyllic location"
We recently spent a wonderful weekend at the villa in the early Autumn sunshine. The villa is a stand-out renovation finished to an incredibly high specification. Our bedroom room was large and spacious with luxury touches throughout: from bedlinen to an immaculate en-suite bathroom. The entire property was spotlessly clean. The surrounding area is idyllic with a rich mix of old and new coming together. Although the villa is remote - a car a definite must - hidden in the surrounding area were some fantastic restaurants serving superb local food and wine. Should you wish to cater for yourself then a fully equipped, state of the art kitchen is on hand. This is a perfect location for large family holidays or smaller groups wishing to capitalise on the various options of accommodation.

"Tennis trip to Croatia"
My stay at Villa Poroprati was fantastic. It has a perfect location accessible via Pula airport and Treviso in Italy to where you can buy flights cheaply. Viila has been recently renovated to a very high standard to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation with lighting that provides a cosy atmosphere. The modern kitchen and bathroom were in contrast to the surrounding stone and beam features and were stunning. Viila is in a quite location with beautiful views and surrounding vineyards that provide a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. It has a swimming pool, table tennis and a beauty treatment room. Most importantly, the welcoming hosts make sure that your stay is unforgettable. They can arrange transfers for you or even for local people to bring you fresh fruit and vegetables. Within only 20 -30 minutes drive you can be at the seaside, visit Porec, the picturesque medieval village Grozdjan, or Umag were we played tennis at Goran Ivansievice Tennis Club. Local restaurants provide a variety of local specialities such as Truffles or fresh see food, home made pasta or bread and all at very affordable prices, Needless to say, local wines such as Malavazija, and Grappa (a very strong spirit) are availabe. Overall it was an excellent holiday and location that I can recommend highly.

"Top Villa in lovely location with helpful and friendly owners"
I travelled with a large group for a long weekend break. The villa was spacious and tastefully furnished and decorated. The bathrooms and kitchen are very modern and finished to a high spec. All the rooms are very clean. The property is recently refurbished to a very high standard. The location is very tranquil with pretty views. It's an ideal house for large groups or families. There is a swimming pool, table tennis and football table. Lots of lovely villages and towns to explore in the region. The area is great for cycling and touriing. The host is extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

"A worthwhile experience in a nice villa"
I booked Villa Poropati for a week in September to stay with a group of 8 people including children. It was a very smooth process and all the information we required was provided in a prompt and accurate way. Villa Poropati is in an excellent location with beautiful views all around and the nearest town Groznjan within 5 minutes drive, with lots of available amenities. The property offers great walks around it and is situated in a quiet and tranquil area. The villa itself has been refurbished very recently with great taste and attention to detail. It is a delight staying there and absorbing the atmosphere of the property and the surrounding area. It has a very nice, large pool as well as a childrens' pool both of which are well maintained. We hired a car with the assistance of the very helpful owner and ventured to the beaches around half an hour away which was worthwhile. Overall the experience of the villa, surrounding area and the service made it a memorable holiday. I could highly recommend a holiday there.
Thank you very much for leaving your kind wards following your recent stay with us at Villa Poropati. I was delighted that you and your wife enjoyed your stay with us and also that you enjoyed the service you received. I do hope that you will join us again soon where I am sure we will once again meet your expectations. My best regards, Rajko Macura
