Location description from owner

The Central Romania region

Romania (and therefore Transylvania) was sealed from the world for 40 years by a communist regime. As a result, most areas have preserved the charm and beauty of sometimes turn-of-the-century, sometimes even medieval way of life. Many places in the country are farmed based on a medieval structure, with no introduction of new technology for centuries. The ways of everyday living, cultivating lands, and raising animal stock reflect the medieval way of farming in the country and it's sprinkled by turn-of-the-century charm in the cities.

Transylvania is over one-third of the territory of Romania; near 100,000 square kilometers of alpine meadows and peaks, medieval towns, and fortresses. It is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Europe. With its snowy peaks, foggy valleys, pristine mountain lakes, ancient pine forests, rich wildlife, and highly varied flora and fauna Transylvania is one of the most undisturbed and wild areas of Europe. Some travel books describe it as a small Switzerland.

The medieval cities, fortresses, castles, and fortified churches of Transylvania contribute to its attractiveness, and are living remnants of the areas colorful, turbulent, and ancient history.

Considering the small territory of Transylvania is smaller than Kentucky - the spectrum of sites to see is endless considering both their genre and variety, therefore we can safely state that Transylvania holds one of the largest concentration of different types of attractions in the world.

Transylvania is a place not affected yet by the new technology of the 21st century is wild, wonderful, ancient, and magical. When one walks the streets of these medieval cities and villages or hikes the undisturbed wilderness, you will feel you have stepped back in time seven centuries. This is unique opportunity for a trip back in time, and if you want to experience it in its undisturbed state, there is no time to waste. The sooner you come the more interesting your experience will be. While modernization can have positive effects, from the standpoint of geotourism concentrating on history and medieval quality modernization can bring on rather devastating and degrading changes.

Brasov

Located 25 Km from Brasov and 190 Km from Bucharest, Bran represents both a historical place and a legend. Bran is the gateway between Transylvania and Valachia with one side lined by the Piatra Craiului Mountains and the other by the Bucegi Mountains.

Bran hosts one of the most visited castles in Europe, the Dracula Castle, the source which inspired the most fascinating legend of the blood- shedding Count Dracula. The Castle was built by the inhabitants of Brasov in the interval 1377-1382 to protect the mountain pass from the invading Turks. At the beginning of the 20th century it became the favourite residence of Queen Maria of Romania, a queen for whom the Bran inhabitants manifested a deep gratitude, as they also benefited from a profound appreciation during the Romanian monarchy.

Although the name of Bran is closely linked to that of the Bran Castle, the region is extremely rich in tourist attractions: the Moieciului Gorges, the Bucegi Mountains and Piatra Craiului, Pestera Dambovicioara, Cetatea Rasnovului (Rasnov Fortress), and also Brasov and the neighbouring Saxon fortresses from Prejmer and Harman. More distant sites can also be visited, such as: Peles Castle in Sinaia, the medieval fortress Sighisoara (UNESCO Patrimony), or Biertan, one of the biggest Saxon fortresses in Transylvania.

Bran has also become a place which competes with the town due to its smart villas built in recent years. Living within a well-meaning nature, with hardworking and welcoming people the people from Bran always knew how to benefit from the assets they had from tourism. Rural tourism has been practised in the region for some decades, representing a feasible alternative to the large hotels in the Valea Prahovei or Poiana Brasov resort. Poiana Brasov resort is a traditional place for skiing, but also for spending Summer holidays. the access from Rasnov is pretty short (9kms).

The family-like atmosphere that overwhelms you in the rural homes, the people who know to value a "thank you" coming from the bottom of the heart of a tourist after a good wealthy meal, hosts who will proudly show their tastefully decorated houses, are only some of the arguments which will persuade you to prolong your stay in these places.

“Fantastic log home with spectacular views”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2016

This is a lovely log home, very warm, cosy and homely. Extremely well fitted and suitable for any age range but not for anyone with mobility problems. We were a group of 7 adults and spent Christmas there, unfortunately there was no snow due to the unusually warm weather across Europe at the moment but this didn't spoil our enjoyment. Ema was extremely helpful, she put up the Christmas tree and decorated it beautifully, she also arranged the purchased of a turkey for our Christmas meal. She gave very helpful advise as to where to visit and what was interesting. A car is a definite must and something suitable to be able to negotiate the unmade, narrow, up hill road leading to the house; I have to say that if we had very low temperatures and snow, accessing the house by car would have been very difficult if not impossible. A lovely experience, lovely house, beautiful scenery and well worth a visit.

Thank you Georgina, it's always such a pleasure to hear that my guests had a good time at the Carpathian Log Home! As for the lack of snow, mid January/ February is a safer bet for the snow lovers here. Give it another try sometime, we'd love to have you back!:) The road leading to the house during snowy times can be a problem indeed, but only on the last 150 meters to the house, being very steep. Guests can park their cars safely and walk the last 150 meters, or ask me and I'll be happy to help with my 4wd car. Thanks again for coming and looking forward to seeing you for a summer Transylvanian adventure too!:)

“Carpathian lodge”

Had a warm welcome to CArpathian house by the owner. My husband, grown up family x4 and partners joined us with our 1st grandchild of 4 weeks. The Xmas decorations were up, the turkey in the fridge and wine on the house. All was warm, with beautiful views, and welcoming. Great place to visit, the skiing was good, ice skating in BRasov and BRan castle on the doorstep. Would like to return in spring/ summer months for the walking. We attained what we wanted a white Xmas, family time and it was good. Our hostess could not do enough for us. Totally recommended

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at the Carpathian Log Home. I'm happy to hear that you found here everything you were hoping for, I would absolutely love welcoming you again in the summer! Returning guests get discounts too;) See you again sometime!:)

“Perhaps the best vacation rental I have ever stayed in”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2013

This was perhaps the best self catering vacation home I have ever stayed at world wide. It is new, exceptionally large, comfortable, contains all the modern utensils one may need for an extended stay. It is ideal for a family with children, or a few couples traveling together. The living space is very large, the rooms are large and pleasant and each contains a private bathroom. There is lots to do in the Bran-Brasov area - if we ever return we will certainly try to book this place again. Be prepared to negotiate a steep and deteriorating dirt access road. You do not need 4 wheel drive, but a high clearance vehicle is recommended.

Thank you for taking the time to write a few words, it is always a pleasure to know that our guests had a good time while staying at the Carpathian Log Home. You're welcome back anytime, this place will only get better!

“Dream challet in perfect location...beware of vampires”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2013

Spent a wonderfull week in this superb villa and cant wait to go back next year .We could not fault the high standard of accommodation on offer , furnishings are very tasteful, the kitchen well equipped with all the modern appliances ,sauna ,jacuzzi , just name it and is there. It was absolutely perfect for the whole family, and the view from the terrace is outstanding. The quality of every service, and the courtesy of the owners was greatly appreciated. It makes a big a difference to be in a place that is maintained and managed by the owners with such high standards.Location is excellent - just 2-3 minutes drive to the local deli-supermarket ,about 5 minutes drive to Dracula`s Castle(Bran Castle) , restaurants and other shops, 10 min drive to Rasnov Citadel for an excellent medieval experience etc. I can really recommend a stay here....you will not be disappointed! L&C London ,U.K.

Thank you so much for the kind words, it is wonderful to hear that our guests are enjoying their stay here, and that we can meet the western standards even in Romania. Looking forward to welcoming you here again, returning guests get nice discounts:)

“Brilliant”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2013

My family and a couple of friends spent an amazing week in this cabin. The location is perfect and we could not enjoy enough the peace and quiet. The cabin has got a huge terrace all around it and that provided the perfect place to find shade outside all throughout the day. It has also got a fully equipped fully functioning kitchen and this means a huge amount to parents who know taking your kids out for dinner is a recipe for disaster! The neighbors locals were also fantastic and showed us some great spots to pick blackberries!! We also enjoyed apples from their garden, they are ever so hospitable! Great fun for our kids! Its perfect location, meant that we could do fantastic day trips. We do suggest you get very detailed description for your destination on your day trips as Romanian road signs are terrible (more like non existent) and we wasted precious time going back and forth a few times when we could not find the right turn! Great week overall in a great cabin and great company!

Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm very happy when my guests have a great time here! It is a quiet spot indeed, it's a great joy to see so many families gathering together from all over the world here... Speaking of blackberries, you have forgotten them in the fridge, so next time you come here, there'll be a nice selection of blackberries preserves waiting for you:)
