Maison de la riviere is a 3-bedroom boutique holiday cottage by the river Saison, in SW France. Recently and lovingly renovated, it boasts two stylish sitting-rooms, a large fully-equipped kitchen, a spacious terrace with views over the river Saison, a decadent bathroom and 10 acres of land for you to roam around. Take refreshing swims or fish in the river from our very own secluded beach, enjoy fresh eggs, leisurely walks or feed our farm animals (five goats, a horse and two ponies).

Our three tastefully-decorated double-bedrooms sleep six people, but up to eight people can sleep in the cottage, thanks to the comfortable sofa-bed in the garden room. The two siting rooms and the spacious kitchen offer enough space for socialising and relaxation, especially if you are in a group with children. The cottage comes equipped with a book library that we have carefully curated for a variety of moods and inspirations. Our bathroom has both a bath and a shower and an additional toilet is located downstairs. A large terrace with a view to the river is just the perfect spot for a barbecue or an al fresco dinner, or for lounging with a book in your hands on a quiet afternoon.

We are surrounded by 10 acres of land (all part of our property) and we have our very own access to a secret pebbled beach by the river where you can swim or fish.

We have some of the region’s finest walks and cycling routes on our doorstep, as well as a great village restaurant, Auberge Blondain. A larger selection of restaurants is also available in Sauveterre de Bearn, only a 5 minutes’ drive away, and the Atlantic Coast’s sandy beaches and beautiful seaside towns of Biarritz or Saint Jean de Luz make lovely day trips. And if you thought that being within a stone’s throw away from the Atlantic Ocean was cool, then guess what: we’re also only an hour and half drive away from the Pyrénées National Park: perfect for a day of trekking or skiing (depending what time of the year you’re staying with us). But for a truly unforgettable experience, hop on Le Petit Train d’Artouste (running between 19 May to 14 October), just outside of Laruns, for a 10km ride through the Ossau Valley to take in the breath-taking scenery and marvel at the engineering dating back to 1920s.

Our region has a large selection of activities to keep the children entertained, such as kayaking and canoeing on the river, treasure hunting at Chateau de Laas, climbing trees at Adventure Park Aramits, water sliding at the Aqua Bearn, visiting the zoo and seeing the bears at Parc d'Ours, go karting, bowling, horse riding and even quad biking for the children. Not to mention the activities they can engage right here at Maison de la riviera, such as feeding and interacting with the animals, trampolining, swimming and bodysurfing in the river, playing badminton, football, volleyball, table tennis and more. For the parents and not only, we recommend a day of indulgence at the Spa in Salies de Bearn and a lovely meal at La Legende restaurant in Sauveterre de Bearn. We can look at arranging babysitting service for the children, if required.

No matter where you are in the Bearn des Gaves, you are never too far away from the famous pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela, but if walking isn’t your thing, there is a plentiful selection of charming villages surrounding us (some of them classed as Les Plux Beaux Villages de France) such as Sauveterre de Bearn, Navarrenx, Salies de Bearn or Saint Jean Pied de Port. During the summer months, a plethora of village events, such as Marche des Producteurs, Medieval Festival and the Festival of the Blonde Cow in Sauveterre de Bearn, allow you to rub shoulders with the locals and challenge your stomach with delicious freshly-cooked food. The Festival of Bayonne gathers over one million participants annually and it takes place less than an hour away. You can even go surfing for the day in Biarritz or any of the other coastal towns.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Iulia (the owner) a message.

If Iulia (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
