The property has spectacular magical views over the Abruzzo countryside, of the mountains to the west, and of the sea to the east. It is set in a completely rural very private and secluded environment, although at the bottom of the drive in the centre of the tiny hamlet is a very small shop, bar and restaurant that serves arrosticini (a type of kebab) only: a speciality of this part of Italy.
Atri is the nearest ancient town at about 10 minutes drive away, which has all the usual amenities of theatre, old churches, restaurants, supermarkets and banks and even a lively local market once/week..It is famous for the frescoes in its cathedral.
The nearest beach is Pineto,16km away, about a 20 minute drive. It is a sandy beach, and extends for miles to both north and south. Much of the beach has bars, and it is possible to rent sunloungers and parasols by the day or the week. A large section of beach is unmanaged, and shade can be sought under a canopy of pine trees.

Location description from owner

The Abruzzo region

The Abruzzo is a region in the central mid to east of Italy. The Appenine mountains with their foothills rolling down towards the long sandy beaches of the Adriatic sea make this a hidden gem in Italy, much less developed than its neighbours and arguably more picturesque.
There are plenty of walking, cycling and outdoor activities as well as wildlife in the 4 national parks and ski resorts in the mountains.
The main cities and towns have ancient origins and much of architectural and historical interest.
Tiny hamlets cling tenaciously to hillsides, often hiding frescoes in the churches.
Food and drink here are important. Hearty farmhouse food and good wines such as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo deserve to be savoured, as do the wonderful 'arosticini' , a sort of kebab served with local bread and olive oil.

Atri

The wonderful sandy beach at Pineto is 20 odd minutes away by car.Fringed by pines which provide welcome shade it is an ideal beach for young children.
If you like skiing , the resorts are about 50 mins. drive away and will provide fun for the beginner or intermediate skier. In the Summer they are bases for walking with well marked mountain trails.
The 'calanchi' are limestone formations near to the local town, Atri, which are designated a WWF site of special interest and are the natural habitat of the elusive porcupine.
There is a regular Monday market in Atri , about 15 mins. drive away, which comes alive in the Summer.Art exhibitions, stalls and festas in the streets on a Summer evening bring locals flocking. The theatre hosts concerts ,including opera and plays. Many events are free.Wine tasting is on offer in local villages or the winery within walking distance of the house.
