Description

A large rustic house, originally a stable which was part of the Chateau and estate of Argoules.

The house is set in an enclosed courtyard which was the hunting lodge for the Chateau. Alongside the house are the original kennels and coach house.

The house is situated overlooking the village green, opposite the Auberge du Grosse Tilleau, where many guests dine during their stay.

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, tranquil place to stay this is it, a bird lovers paradise.

Former guests have sat out in the late evenings to watch the owls fly off to hunt, return with their catch for their chicks.

If you are very quite, you can hear the chicks screeching in the tower. Also in the evenings the courtyard is a buzz with bats flying about catching insects. If you are very still you may encounter the resident hedgehog doing his nightly prowl looking for food.

During the day many different birds come to feed, while others nest in the surrounding buildings. The property has a pair of resident woodpeckers and a couple of pairs of wrens. Relax on a lounger, close your eyes and listen to the chorus of birdsong, just amazing.

It is in the historic region of Picardie in the Somme about one hours drive from the tunnel and the port of Calais. It is within easy reach of the battlefields and historical sites at Arras, Albert, and Vimy Ridge. Paris is, approximately, a two hour drive or can easily be reached by train from the local station in Rue.

On the ground floor there is a large double bedroom with a super-king size bed, a bathroom and a seperate toilet. The design of the house almost lends itself to have two separate sleeping arrangements, making it ideal for extended family vacations.

The ground floor sleeping accommodation is separate and quite. Also to add to this tranquility is the fact that the ground floor sleeping accommodation is single story, without a storey above it. Thus making it ideal for grandparents sharing a family holiday.

The kitchen is large with informal dining facilities. While next door there is a large sitting room with woodburner and a formal dining area.

There is also a second quite sitting area on the half landing, which leads onto a private sun terrace overlooking the village green.

On the first floor are a large bathroom with seperate toilet, 3 bedrooms one of which is a double, the other two are twin rooms. The second of the twin rooms has day beds, which are suitable for adults or children.

The house is well furnished and contains a dishwasher, washing machine, and other electrical appliances.

The house is no smoking indoors but there is provision for smokers outside.

If you wish to get away from it all for Christmas or New Year the house, with an easy-to-light log burner, storage heaters and electric blankets on all the beds, makes it a cosy place to relax and celebrate the occassion with friends or family.

During these seasons there is an increased electricity allowance of 400 units included in the rental and the firewood is supplied free of charge. Also included during these specific periods are all bedlinen, towels, tea towels, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid, we even provide aprons for the chefs! We also provide a very enjoyable welcome pack and a complementary bottle of Champagne.

It is also a great place for friends or families to celebrate special birthdays, anniversaries, engagements or just general get togethers.

Many people use it as a base to visit Family in the UK, when holidaying from far flung fields such as Australia and Canada, also many relatives from UK come to visit family who are holidaying or doing some searches here from such places.

The village has many circular walks ranging from 25 minutes to 2 hrs or longer if so desired.

Autumn and winter are beautiful times of the year to visit, when the leaves change on the trees and there is a very restful feel about the village.

Location description from owner

The Picardy region

The region is very historic and one could spend weeks visiting many of the places of interest or the larger towns nearby such as Arras and Amiens. Paris is an easy trip and many guests depart early morning for a day trip to Paris or stay overnight for a visit to Euro Disney. The region has many activity parks and the house is close enough to Belgium to hop over to visit the theme park of Plopsaland in La Panne, which has an amazing sandy beach and lots of activities along the beach side for children. Denny's is a family owned theme park about forty five minutes from the house and is a great day out for the children also.

Argoules

The village of Argoules is set in the valley of the Authie which is historic in itself, it has a Chateau and the Abbaye de Valloires close by. There are many leasurely walks around the village and to the next village for a quite lunch and a stroll back to aid digestion. The village has two restuarants The Auberge du Gros Tilleul which is opposite the house and is named after the great lime tree which stands in front of the Auberge. The Auberge du Coq-en-Pate is further along the village and is walkable for a leisurly evening meal. There is another restuarant in the village of Saulchoy, Auberge Le Val de Authie, which is a very traditional French restuarant and are recommended for their value lunches. The Abbaye de Valloires is well worth a visit, it operates English tours throught the day and its gardens are open to the public, or you could just choose to browse in their shop and have a coffee. This is about twenty minutes stroll from the house.
