Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

With a gentle and sunny climate, the region is loved by people interested in its history, old stones or spectacular scenery, by sporting or walking enthusiasts, by tired city folk who dream of a walk along the seashore, or by the epicureans who love to indulge in good wine and food.Catalan cuisine is characterised by the existence of a wide variety of produce which makes it a cooking-style standing apart from the rest. Its identity rests on the use of contrasting flavours: sweet/savoury…sweet/sour…and on specific culinary techniques such as ‘sofregit’ and ‘picada’. The Catalan is a ‘llaminer’ , a confectioner, a connoisseur in the preparation of sweetened fine foods. He enjoys eating his ‘llaminadures’ (confectionaries) as much as making them! Ollada, bullinada, cargolada, boles de picolat, salpiquet de mongetes, botifarres, fuet, escalivats, crema catalana …just a few examples of the delights you can taste in our department !The Pyrenées-Orientales is a region of wines, including the Character wines such as Côtes du Roussillon reds, whites and rosés, or the ‘Festive wines’ Rivesaltes, Banyuls or Maury. Make time to take the little roads alongside vineyards, to stop in the villages, to visit the wine-properties…the prestigious Château Valmy is just a short drive up around the lane from Mas Lamon !If you are looking for calm and wellbeing, numerous villages offer spa therapy and treatments, benefits of spa waters or outdoor hot springs. The Pyrenées-Orientales is the land of 2 rugby... (s) ; it is said that the Catalans have a heart "as big as that!". This heart is oval and its beat has a tendency to speed up when…. the rugby season starts! Over and above the sporting aspect, rugby is today a veritable social phenomenon in this area... whether it is to cheer on their clubs, which are USAP (XV) and the Catalan Dragons (XIII) , a veritable sea of “blood and gold” flags ripple around the stands at each match. The Pyrenées-Orientales has a rich and diverse past; numerous sites and museums trace the history of this land, from the oldest European discovery of ancestral bones at Tautavel, the Romanesque art which is so present in Perpignan and throughout the numerous traditional villages of the area, the Cathare castles, the fortifications of Vauban which are listed as UNESCO world heritage... the list is endless…

Argeles sur Mer

Argelès is situated by the Mediterranean sea, surrounded by the vast forests and mountainsides of the ‘Albères’ and the Pyrenees, and just next door to the Spanish border. It is a privileged location offering more than 300 days of sunshine a year !Argelès sur Mer offers a large variety of activities : swimming and sunbathing, of course, water sports and sailing, festivals and traditions such as the Carnival, St. Jean, 14th July etc., and musical and sporting entertainment all year round. There are numerous shops, bars, restaurants and markets to cater for all tastes. The richness of culture, the warm climate, and the hospitality of the locals make an ideal tourist destination for your family holiday.

“Spacious, clean appartment, lovely pool and views from the balcon”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2015

We stayed in Neoulous. Very clean with views of the sea and mountains from the balcony. The location is out of town, I would not recommend staying here if you wanted a lot of nightlife. You need a car really to get around. However, we loved how peaceful it was, very quiet - a nice retreat from the business around Argeles plage. Wonderful pool, and we also like the pétanque pitch.

“Get away from it all, but enjoy the buzz of a nearby town.”

This is the second time we have stayed at Mas Lamon, and it was just as good as we'd remembered. Franck and Louise are excellent hosts, and their property is in a beautiful location. The pool area is fantastic - clean and spacious with plenty of loungers. There is extensive land to the property, and the kids enjoyed going off with other kids staying at the gites (both french and English), exploring and seeing the donkeys! The accommodation itself is clean and spacious, and well equipped. There is plenty to do in Argeles, and the stunning town of Collioure is only 4 minutes by train from Argeles.

“Wonderful relaxing holiday in beautiful, peaceful setting”

A bit tricky to find, but so glad we persevered! This gite was exactly what we were looking for...spacious accommodation in a beautiful place. There were just enough fellow guests to have a chat with round the pool, with an interesting mix of nationalities. There are many interesting places to visit from here, we especially enjoyed Collioure in the evenings and had a lovely day out in Villefranche. I would recommend Mas Lamon to families, especially those with young children, as there is a lovely playground in the grounds, as well as the pool and a rescue farm nearby. Louise and her husband were very welcoming. I can't fault anything!

“Fantastic - at least 12 out of 10”

“AU COEUR DE LA CAMPAGNE CATALANE”

Reviewed 21 May 2015

Tout est parfaitement parfait, amical, propre, sympathique, superbe piscine, petit déjeuner copieux et surtout la campagne alentour.

“Wish we could have stayed longer ...it was wonderful !”

A little remote but all the nicer for it. Delightful spot with mountain backdrop. Beautifully laid out gardens, superb pool, lots of things for children to do...couldn't be better ! Such lovely people, nothing too much trouble, very hospitable and friendly. Best equipped chamber d'hote ever ...like home from home. Breakfasts were a feast ...wonderful yogurt, fruits, home-made bread and preserves, quality juices, coffees and teas. We will most definitely return.

“Parfait”

Accueil chaleureux, logement spacieux et calme, très bon PDJ, grand jardin dans lequel notre fille s'est régalée avec en plus les anes et les poneys. Formidable séjour pour nous sur toute la ligne.

“Hosts very friendly & helpful”

The B&B room was very comfortable and the breakfast was good, sitting on owners terrace overlooking the property. Needs better signs especially on the track leading up to it.

“Lovely Location and delightful hosts”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2014

Mas lamon is a great little gite complex of 4 gites. When we stayed for two weeks we found a delightful mix of english and french families staying at the complex. THe swimming pool was fantastic and our eldest age four learnt to swim from having a real reluctance to true proficiency. Louise and Frank are a classic anglo french couple and the stay felt like being with extended family.. THe pictures on the maslamon.fr site are very true to reality, and we enjoyed our stay. the villages around are full of great beaches we found pauliles , cobiere, and argeles sur mer all had good beaches. THe food in the area is good and there was plenty of variety, as well as a massive hyper marche at the other end of town. we loved the short drive to the local patisserie in an old petrol station that created wonderful croissants and a wonderful black coffee. we'd recommend taking a coffee machine or cafetiere as the ones at the gite are circa 1980, and not up to scratch. To get to the gite we flew to Barcelona as their was more choice and cheaper flights. we'd recommend the train jaune, the castles perpetuse was spectacular, and the beaches. plenty to do and a week or two weeks is worth it. If going in peak late july or august be sure you don't mind the heat as the air con is fans and not a true air con system when we stayed, so for small children the heat sometimes 30 at 9pm was as hot as we'd want being british and used to 20 degree evening temperatures. getting to the gite is an experience - everyone we spoke to over the two weeks seems to get lost - as argeles is a labrynth and there is one easy way and several hard ones!! it is critical to approach from the hyper market as coming from south/coast leads to endless circles round the area but no obvious access route, however we did not have a sat nav, just old school maps..
