The house is only a 10 minute drive from the beaches of The Vendee, and is a great area for walking and cycling. The local area is a haven for wildlife - with lots of migratory birds visiting the Wetlands nearby.

The main attraction of this area is the beach - with Les Conches being the closest and great for surfing and body boarding. For the less adventurous, there is La Tranche sur Mer or Le Veillon, where the long sandy beaches are great for sand castles or relaxing!

There are lots of other attractions in the area - such as karting tracks, neolithic dolmens, a château with a Priate Treasure trail in the garden and the Indian Forest for climbing through the trees, and racing across a lake on a zip wire!

Further details indoors

This renovated house is a great base for a family holiday. It has everything that you would need to make your stay enjoyable and is set in a lovely little town that holds regular events throughout the summer months.

The gite is set on one level, so would be suitable for guests with limited mobility and is within walking distance to local shops and restaurants. There are two bedrooms and a shower room with a separate WC.

Inside, there is an open plan living and kitchen area with newly installed fitted kitchen and large dining table. There is a TV with UK free-to-air channels and DVD player and the kitchen is fully equipped with induction hob, built-in oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and kettle, toaster & coffee maker. There is a washing machine in the shower room. Wi-Fi is available in the house.

Along the hallway, there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with 3 single beds - all are light and airy and cool in the summer months due to the thick stone walls. Bed linens are provided for each bed, but please bring your own towels and beach towels.

Further details outdoors

Outside there is a large gravelled terrace that catches the sun all day. There is a patio table and chairs, along with a BBQ for your enjoyment - great for al fresco dining! Private off-road parking is also available to the side of the garden. There are many sun loungers and deck chairs for your use.

in 2014 the garden area was extended to include a large lawn for the children to play on.

The gite is not overlooked by any of the neighbouring houses and the quiet lane is set away from the centre of the town.

This is a great base for exploring the local area, with a vast choice of beaches from only 10 minutes away and also some stunning countryside - reclaimed marshlands that have become havens for wildlife. Great for cycling and walking.

Location description from manager

The Pays de la Loire region

Gites des Forges is set in a quiet lane in the pretty town of Angles in the southern Vendée, only 10 minutes from the beaches of La Tranche sur Mer. The area is famous for its good weather and summers are long and usually hot! The Vendée is the 2nd sunniest part of France after the Mediterranean.

The area is criss-crossed with canals and waterways and much of the land has been reclaimed from the sea over the centuries and there are many interesting tourist attractions to visit, including the Indian Adventure Park, The Chateau des Aventuriers with its treasure trail, the fantastic Puy du Fou theme park and the Marais Poitevin Regional Park.

The main attraction is the coastline - with miles of beaches, surrounded by pine forests with lots of picnic areas and cycle paths.

Angles

The town of Angles dates back to the 11th Century, and still has its old church and Castle tower (Moricq). There are approximately 1600 inhabitants and in the centre you will find several shops - bakeries, butcher, fishmonger, florist, banks, bars, restaurants and a twice-weekly market, plus many fêtes and festivals throughout the summer months.

The house is set in a quiet lane with a Wine Cave (cellar) next door - the owner is very friendly and may invite you in to sample the local wines!

The area is very flat, so is ideal for walking and cycling holidays and the surrounding countryside is very picturesque with many canals, rivers and reclaimed marshlands - teeming with wildlife and a haven for migrating birds.

There are over 20 miles of sandy beaches nearby where you can surf, body-board, make sand castles, sunbathe and explore the rock pools. There are also many organised events on the beaches and in the towns during the summer in La Tranche sur Mer and La Faute - with musical evenings, fireworks and street entertainment.

“Lovely gite in a lovely location. Perfect if you have children.”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

We really enjoyed our stay in the gite. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The town itself was lovely too and again had everything you needed. We particularly loved the wine cellar next door and the owner was very welcoming! We would definitely stay here again without a doubt.
