New Year 2011/12 - This property was the perfect venue for our family's New Year's holiday to celebrate a 60th birthday. It was just what we wanted. The views were awesome, and it was a great base to explore the local area where we were spoilt for choice of things to keep us entertained. We can't wait to go back and see the rest of the massive list of sights we wanted to see. It was a perfect winter destination, and we didn't even make it to the slopes! July 2011-Wow, what a great place you have in Altmunster! After reading the information in your ad and the comments of former guests, we expected a beautiful spot but this really exceeded our expectations! If friends of us are looking for a place to stay in Austria, we will surely recommend your house!

Set in its own grounds on a south facing hillside with uninterrupted views over Lake Traunsee and the Alps and yet only five/ten minutes from the lakeside towns of Altmunster and Gmunden with their wide range of restaurants and shops, the house is fully centrally heated and has three bedrooms, a large lounge/diner, a very well equipped breakfast kitchen with dishwasher, a bathroom with underfloor heating and a laundry room with washing machine,

The house has been extensively renovated and is comfortably furnished, well equipped and has two south-facing sun terraces offering 'views to die for' (see 'Guest Book').

A reasonably priced, locally renowned, restaurant is only five minutes walk away for those occasions when you just don't want to cook with numerous restaurants and cafe houses in the local towns and on the lakeside.

We have set the house occupancy at a comfortable/spacious 6 but there is a sofa-bed in the lounge plus two fold-out matresses which then allows for flexibility for up to 8 guests.

Bedroom one - double bed plus cot (plus two further fold-out matresses if required)
Bedrooms two and three - two single beds in each.

There is parking for two/three cars and lots of space in the garden for children to be children.

With lots to see and do within one hour's radius of the house, Grasberg offers a perfect winter and summer holiday location for every age group and taste.

Altmunster

'Grasberg' lies above Lake Traunsee - 'Gateway to the Alps' - and the tourist towns of Gmunden and Altmunster in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria. Idyllically situated, it is within very easy reach of all main amenities and only one hour from the historic city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart.

Together with its many cultural attractions, it is also an ideal summer/winter location with any number of mountain/water based activities including skiing - five areas ranging from beginner to advanced all within 15-45 minutes driving distance including Gosau/Dachstein West with its 140 km of pistes and 67 lifts and the spectacularly beautiful Kasberg region(see links below) But, if none of this is what your looking for, why not simply take time to 'chill - out' and enjoy the culinary delights of the region!

Bicycles and skiing equipment etc all available for hire in Altmunster/Gmunden

191 metres deep, 12 kilometers long, and 3 kilometres wide, Lake Traunsee which is just five minutes drive from the house is named after the river which feeds it and is crowned at its northern most end by Traunstein which at 1691 metres high forms the 'Gateway to the Alps'.

Drawing generations of visitors and entrepreneurs to the region (the lake's pleasure cruiser company was founded by the British in the 1800's), Gmunden has been the administrative centre for the region since 1265.

If that doesn't provide you with a sense of history, older still is the thousand year old, 'Jewel in the Crown', off-shore castle, Schloss Orth. In recent years, largely through the popular television series 'Hotel Schloss Orth', it has become a must - visit feature on many people's holiday itinery. Don't plan to stay there, however. Breakfast you may get, but a bed certainly not.

Whether you want to be active or just relax, this part of the Austrian Salzkammergut doesn't fail to deliver! A great place for families and individuals alike and with something for everyone (and with a little left over as well), the possibilities are endless. And remember, should you by any chance get the urge to explore further afield, then rest assured, Gmunden is at the hub of the Salzkammergut and Austria!

“Absolutely charming...”

Quiet, peaceful location and yet just a short drive to amenities and restaurants. Awesome view of the valley. Kept my husband very busy capturing shots of the amazing surrounding landscape which appeared to be constantly changing with the sunshine, snow, sunrise and sunset. Great location to base your vacation as many places of interest are just easy drives away. Well heated. This is a house with character - it simply grows on you.

It is always a privilege being able to host guests like you and like you, we never fail to tire with the beauty and tranquillity of this wonderful corner of the Austrian Alps. As our living 'adverts', you're welcome at any time. Thank you for sharing our 'home' with us.

A really nice house in a great location with stunning views, the six of us visited in February while it was still snowing, there was plenty of room in the house which was clean and tidy with a very well equiped kitchen, the road up the hill to the house is winding and can be tricky to navigate in the snow but with winter tyres or chains not a problem just adds to the excitement of the experience, and the sledging in the garden down the hill side is brilliant fun! A great base to travel from to see the surrounding sites or just stay in and admire the views of the mountains and lake below! We'd love ot come back in the spring or summer and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, thoroughly recommend it! Thank you David and family.

“Lovely house with amazing views”

We stayed in this lovely house for 2 weeks and had a very relaxing time - very well equipped with everything we needed. The views from the house are outstanding and the house is in a quiet location yet only 5 minutes drive from shops, lake etc.We made good use of the Strandbad swimming pool in Gmunden and also swam and used the dinghy in the lake.Lots of lovely walks in the surrounding area. We visited the saltmine at Halstatt and a High Ropes course at Altaussee (about an hours drive away and quite hard to find but well worth it and good value).

Many thanks for your very kind comments about the house and your appreciation. We're delighted that you had such a great time at the house and having owned it for a number of years, we know that it is in a 'jewel' of a location - 'Better than the photos!'- as a previous guest once said. Do visit again and we hope that others discover it as well.

“Lakes, moutains and beautiful scenery”

We enjoyed out stay here so much the previous year we came back in August 2010. This is a lovely property with all of the facilites you need to enjoy a holiday (in our case with our two sons). The house is on a hillside above the lake with beautiful views across to the moutain over Gmunden town. We found the area very friendly and relaxing with opportuniities to swim and sit by the lakes and to climb the hills, as well as to sight see the saltmines, the towns and access the mountains via cablecars. Salzberg was an easy drive and well worth a visit. We have already recommneded the property to friends (who have booked to stay this summer) and we hope to go back again ourselves soon.

There's no better advert for a place than to have guests come back and we'd love to have you again. Great to hear that your boys enjoyed it so much as well.
