“What a wonderful location but would not suit us next time”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2014

We emailed ahead of our arrival and met Armand at a designated time outside the Studio address in the old city. Armand was a wonderful host and very welcoming. Our party of three adults was honestly too big for this unit. In hindsight we should have chosen something a little larger. However for a young couple or single person this unit would be ideal. IT is a Studio so it consists of one room that contains the bedroom and kitchen. A great WIFI and TV system but no couch to sit on, just the bed or some Cafe style seats next to the kitchen bench. The kitchen is dated and needs upgrading - very poor lighting for any bench work. It consists of a two plate electric stove and a sink. A microwave on the bench and utensils. We hardly used the kitchen except for breakfast but I am sorry to say it did not inspire me to cook which I had planned to after travelling for 2 weeks. Instead we ate out which was fabulous in Aix. The location is just off rue Italia which is a hive of upmarket delicatessens and eateries, plus speciality stores. We were excited to even have a Health food shop around the corner. The building is quite old the foundations are 12c but it appears that the inside is gradually being upgraded. The bathroom must have been renovated recently and is clean and serviceable. It is a tight fit but the towels are very pleasant. Not for us but if you are quite happy for a small unit in a wonderful location, in the heart of Aix, I would consider Armand's unit.

Bonjour, I'm sorry to hear that my furnished apartment wasn't up to your expectations. Unfortunately my other larger area furnished apartments were already rented during this period. I suggest you contact me directly so that we can analyze (aix2@hotmail.fr) and react quickly to improve my services. It was a pleasure to welcome you. Thank you for the very interesting exchanges and our friendship times. I was delighted to have shared many memories photos in front of our beautiful building in the famous Clovis Hugues street in the historic heart of Aix en Provence ... At soon !! Your friend Armand

“Beautiful studio apartment in the heart of Aix-en-Provence at an excellent price”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2014

I stayed here in April to May 2013. This delightful studio apartment is located in the central area of Aix-en-Provence, within the old city walls. It is situated in a charming street which must date back to the 16th or 17th centuries. It is only 5 minutes walk from the Cours Mirabeau, the centre of Aix-en-Provence. Delicious patisseries, bakery boulangerie, small supermarkets, wine merchants, fromagerie and greengrocers (le magasin de fruits et légumes) are located just around the corner from the studio, almost immediately outside. There are also dry cleaners, a hairdresser and a self-service laundry within a minute's walk. This makes Studio Angelica an ideal base for a self-catering stay in Aix-en-Provence. This spotlessly clean apartment comprises a single studio (one large room), with two single beds (one is kept under the other and can be pulled out for a second person), dining table and chairs, TV, wi-fi internet and an excellent kitchen. The kitchen was one of the best parts of the studio. It was fully equipped with pots, pans, utensils, crockery and a good stove. Because there was an excellent greengrocer nearby I cooked dinner most evenings using delicious fresh local produce. The studio itself is warm and comfortable. Having said that Aix-en-Provence was mainly warm and sunny the entire time I was there. I used the heater occasionally in early April, but as they month went on found I didn't need it. I stayed here while conducting research at the Archives Nationales d'Outer Mer (Archives of the Overseas Territories), which are only a 15 to 20 minute walk from the apartment. This is an ideal place to stay for researchers in the archives. I was really wanting well priced self catering accommodation in walking distance of the archives in Aix while conducting this work. This can be quite a challenge to find in Aix where accommodation can be fairly expensive. However, Studio Angelica represents excellent value for money, especially given its location and facilities. It would also be an ideal place to stay for a holiday in Aix, especially if spending time exploring the idyllic surrounding countryside. The friendly, professional and welcoming owner Armand, also has other apartments available for rent in Aix which I would also definitely consider staying at when next in the city. The booking process was well organised and efficient. I just sent Armand an email, confirmed dates and availability, sent through a €200 deposit on internet banking and then the booking was confirmed within two days. I got the Eurostar from London, overnighted in Paris, and then the TGV to Aix-en-Provence the next day (you could make the journey all in a day from London if preferred). Located almost 1000 kilometres south of Paris, the TGV only took three hours to reach Aix. That journey alone was one of the highlights of my trip. Upon arriving at the new Aix-en-Provence TGV station I took a taxi to Studio Angelica which cost €40. You can get there by bus for around €10 if you know where you're going. On arrival at the apartment, Armand was there to meet me with the key and showed me through the studio explaining how the TV, internet and bedding worked. He was very helpful. My security deposit was returned in cash at check out and Armand and his daughter even kindly accompanied me along the Mirabeau to the bus station helping me with my luggage as I left for Marseilles airport and my onward flights to Frankfurt and Singapore. This is a highly recommended apartment that is suitable for business, vacation or a combination of both. I look forward to being able to return when I am next in Aix-en-Provence for work.

Smiles and tears parade for your appreciation. Thanks !! Armand
