“Great central location for seeing the country.” We rented the Grijalva home for a week in June 2008. It was a great location for our "let's see all of Guatemala" trip.
The house is very spacious, homey and is located in a friendly community. The rooms are large with very comfortable beds and enough bathrooms for everyone. Being a gated community with security, I thought there would be issues with our not speaking Spanish. But with the informative 'pass' Mrs. Grijalva provided, we came and went without issue. In addition, we were provided with directions to the nearest grocery store, contact info for an English speaking neighbor, and contact info for Grijalva relatives in the area.
From this, our home base, we visited most of Guatemala in day trips. A volcano clearly seen from the house even belched while we were there!
“Great Property - Amazing Views” I recently spent 5 splendid nights at Villas Km5 on Lake Atitlan, it was my first trip to Guatemala but won’t be my last.
I was equally impressed by the destination as I was with the accommodation, our villa was inviting, comfortable and clean. The view was impressive and easy to enjoy, after the journey in from Guatemala City the first thing we did was relax in the jacuzzi overlooking the lake. This was the start to a marvelous vacation.
We then explored the little town nearby, which had wonderful restaurants and great locals.
The Villia itself was as represented in the photos which made us extremely happy. The beds were comfortable, sheets and bedding of high quality as were all the amenities in the property. The kitchen was well equipped, we prepared a few meals for ourselves with local produce bought in from town.
The property itself was quiet and just the right distance from town, not too far, but away enough to give you the feeling of really being on holiday and getting away from it all. The owners of the property were also extremely helpful with local tips, knowledge and recommendations.
I recommend this property to anyone wanting to get away from it all for a few day in peace and quiet, filled with the unique culture of Guatemala.
“A luxurious, peaceful retreat just a few miles away from antigua” This villa and its surroundings are even more beautiful and peaceful than the pictures reflect. It is large, but feels cozy (the fireplaces are perfect) and elegant, with a rustic touch. It can serve as the perfect escape from the world (I arrived solo), a romantic getaway, or family home base while traveling. It is extremely safe and private. It offers amazing views and nearby paths to walk the countryside. The best view might be from the master bath tub, which you will use often. If you are looking for a luxurious stay in the Guatemalan countryside (but not far from antigua), this is the place. I would pay twice as much to stay here!
“a reliable comfortable home while you stay in antigua” My friends and I (we are all middle-aged women) stayed at Carlos' property next door for about 9 days in June, 2013 while we took a week of spanish classes. It was a great choice. Everything was very comfortable and Carlos was helpful at every turn and had great advice and recommendations regarding antigua and Guatemala in general. We saw the property which is the subject of this site and it is even nicer and would make a perfect choice for a family or a bunch of friends. the location in antigua was ideal. Thanks Carlos for everything. Terry G
